A Rock Concert in the works

And, as if we don’t have enough song and music events in SHC, I like to start exploring having a  Rock Concert.  I know what is a Concert, but I do not know what is Rock music.  Here are some vague ideas what I think the event will turn out to be.

  1. The venue is likely to be at the Hong Lim Green, but instead of political speeches, we  will have a Rock Concert.  There is a stage there.
  2. Time wise, it is likely to be in the late afternoon, say 4 – 6 pm.
  3. We would look out for either one or two rock bands and singers.
  4. The event will be organised by the SilverHairsClub, under the umbrella of the SilverHairs Enterprise Pte Ltd.
  5. Participants will have to be SHC members, but attendance to listen to the music will be offered to the public.
  6. The theme has not been decided yet, but we will work with the Rock band, musicians and singers.
  7. This will be a wholly English language event.
  8. Access to the Park will be from MRT station.  Just exit and that’s it.

In reality, nothing has been decided yet.  It’s a thought.  But,. if you know me, and I bring up the topic, it is likely 51% a yes, Let’s do it.  I am opening for discussion on this forum, any questions, ideas, suggestions or considerations for this event.  We will take two months, and close discussions and major decisions on 31  Aug 2013.  Let’s go.

Table Tennis at Clementi Sports Hall (CSH), Tues 11 & Thurs 13 June 2013

Dates: Tues 11 & Thurs 13 June 2013

Time: 8.00am to 10.00am

Those interested please register here.

There are 6 table tennis tables in CSH. I’ve paid for booking (senior rate $1.10 for an hour) Table 5. Usually seniors will play at 2 tables for free from 7.00am to 9.00am. Thereafter most tables are booked by trainers to train kids. Just watch the kids! They’re fantastic! I picked up some tips from them as they are being coached by professional trainers.

Hope to see you!

Linda ( Picked up playing table-tennis this year. Did not play since Pr School days (half a century ago!  Not to worry any innate skill will surface once you’ve played before!)

3rd Men’s Night, Tuesday, 2 July 2013

Please be informed that the 3rd Men’s Night will be held on Tuesday, 2 July 2013.  Details are as follows:

Venue:

313 @ Somerset

Food Republic on Orchard Road, Somerset MRT

Exact sitting location would be between Toast Box and Soup Guru

Time:

6.30 – 9 pm

men's night

Our aim is to have a regular place, where SHC men can pop in and get to know one another.  There will be no formalities. Generally, it is an event that we have thought of to generate more interest among the men, for them to talk their own things.  The Men’s Night will be held on a weekday.  We’ll develop this event as we go along.

In all likelihood, we’ll not plan for food or drinks.  The men will buy their own drinks and pay for the drinks as they are served.  This is to avoid complications of bill splitting.  Let’s make this a habit and procedure.

Arising from the last meeting on 4 June, we’ll discuss topics like:

– CPF

– Wealth Management

– Working in China

– Sex Food

– Women in SHC

The list of topics is by no means exhaustive.  Feel free to suggest more topics for discussion at the meeting on this blog.

Please note the date above and register your attendance on this blog.

Thank you.

Gabriella Chua assumes the role of Men’s Night Facilitator wef 5 June 2013

As we get closer to end June 2013, my schedules get tighter.  There will be more announcements of members assuming roles in the Club.  One of my focus, and I am sure is the same focus for many EOs and ECs is to balance the sexes in the Club.  Fortunately, we are not short of ideas from members.  Unfortunately, many members are not willing to volunteer to lead their suggestions, and many expect some one else to do the job.

We are all fully aware that SHC has a high percentage of  lady percentage participating in events.  But, the fact is we also have a big number of men registered within the Club, who actively read the Club’s forum but do not come in to join the activities.

Personally, I believe that the Men’s night will be a successful gathering and will attract more men to the Club.  Discussions are obviously different from the SHC monthly gatherings.  Again, unfortunately, we do not have volunteers to help with the administrative work of organising such events.  Well, as I have mentioned last month, I have decided to free this part of the work to a lady.  I had approached her, and she has accepted the role of SHC Men’s night facilator.  I shall still continue to be the EO of this gathering and she will handle all the facilating work of the Men’s night.  Hopefully, if she is happy with the job, she will stay on for one to two years.

She is Gabriella Chua, whom most of you would have known her from her role with the registration and sitting arrangements of the Taipei night. Basically, our objective is to increase participation at the Men’s night and her tasks are:

  • Organise, post and handles registration of the monthly SHC Men’s night.
  • Maintain the database and participation of all participants.  The database she maintains is confidential, please do not approach her.
  • Send out regular reminders to participants.

This may appear an unusual role.  Please give her the encouragement and support.
