        1. Hi Terence, I saw my 3 friends names in table 5. In this case I and Francis will join my friends in table 5. Sorry to pull out our names from your table. Thanks for inviting us to your table though. Cheers

    1. Terence,
Doreen Ong here. Would like to join the 1nite JB – Bring in the yesteryears.
I will join table 5. I dont mind a room for myself. Thank you.

  2. For room bookings at KSL hotel and the coach to and fro Singapore/KSL/Singapore, I have asked Doreen Chan to handle this part of the work. Meantime, please wait for her new Post.

  3. Hi ChristineT,

You and your partner are most welcome. It is a pleasure to see our members and friends come together. Look forward to an evening of relaxation, fun and memories.

    Terence Seah

  4. To kickstart “One night in JB”, we have a welcome song, sung by Niti Nurhaliza. This song has been recommended by Abel Tan, who is currently spending most of his time in Indonesia. Abel is very familiar with Malaysia, and to my knowledge, all the way from Singapore to the borders of Thailand and Malaysia. He is also an avid Karaoke singer.

With this video clip, I hope you will find ideas on what you can wear to the coming D&D at KSL JB on 8 Jul 2017. Have fun preparing your dancing wear.

    Terence Seah

  5. Hi StevenC,

I am more than pleased to have you at our “One night in JB”. Yes, on Table 1.

I have been hearing about your renewed life. Yes, we have one life only.

    Terence Seah

  6. Terence
Pearl Wong, Ronnie Sow, Patrick Oei & Linda would like to be seated at Table 4. Please reserve for them.

    Thanks – Sally SC Tan

  7. Two more members, since 2005 will be joining us during our “One night in Jb”. They are June Lee SM and Husband. Welcome to Table 1.

    1. Hi Terence,

Further to our communication, appreciate you will ask them on the payment status.

Look forward to hearing from them.

      Thanks!

  8. Hi SallyT,

TQ for bringing in more participants to our One night in JB. Both are welcome.

This year, we shall give additional focus for participants to know one another even before the event. I am even thinking of a gathering sometime in mid June. So by the time, we are at KSL, everybody should be familiar with one another.

  9. Hi guys and gals,

Last year, we tried to have a live band at our D&D event at KSL. This did not materialised, as this would have increased our event cost. Well, let’s try again.

If you know of a good entertainer and one-man band, we can try to engage you or her. Should be someone familiar with songs of the 70s, able to play music we can dance to. This segment is likely to be all English, with one or two Malaysian songs of bthe era. KSL ballroom has a good audio system, so I guess all we would need is to link up to KSL equipment. We would want to avoid bringing equipment to JB and back.

I am out of Singapore until end April, so if there is a need to meet the person, we can do early May.

You can contact Terence Seah at whatsapp +65 9489 4360. No calls plse.

TQ, and look forward to an enjoyable evening for participants. This time, I will try not to miss this event.

  14. The program for “One night in JB” will have a highlight which we can all look forward to. This will be the last segment of the evening and entertaining us with music, songs and dances will be Jeffrey and Irene Gan.

Jeffrey will proudly show his new keyboard which he has bought recently. Both Irene and Jeffrey are renowned entertainers and dancers. Within the last segment, there will be a lucky draw.

The committee and myself do not know the details but we can leave the last segment totally to Jeffrey and Irene. We will just enjoy the evening and we can be sure it will be fun and memorable.

    Thank Jeffrey and Irene.

    Terence and committee.

  15. Our “One night in JB” committee started to meet together on Whatsapp this week.

Discussions and feedback from members started since last year. Finally, it’s time to get together, discuss in details and putting the evening together.

    Our committee includes

Sally Tan – she takes charge of the Chinese segment.

Lydia Chin – she is in charge of prizes and gifts. If you have prizes and gifts for the evening, plse contact Lydia.

Doreen Chan – she is in charge of hotel venue and transport. For members who wish to take transport from Spore to KSL and back the next day, this option is being arranged by Doreen.

Yoon Chin – As a member of SilverHairsClub support team on user passwords, she sits in, jokingly to make coffee if the committee needs a break.

Christina Chan – she is also a member of SilverHairsClub suport team. She takes care of the accounting and budgets for this event.

Jeffrey Gan – he looks after the last segment of our evening. Jeffrey and Irene will entertain us with keyboard, music, songs and dances.

Not decided yet – still working out someone to handle the English segment. Will announce later.

Registration and welcome – awaiting a volunteer to join us.

Terence Seah – as EO for the event. many of you have asked if I will attend. To the best of my effort, I will be at the event. The event goes on and we will make it successful.

We are likely to do all committee work via Whatsapp. We will also visit KSL about a mth before the event.

Look forward to your early registration. Early rooster discount for the 1st 40 pax.

    Terence Seah

    Terence Seah

  30. Hi Terence,

Reckon it must be an oversight on your part. How could my Table 2 be noisy when all of us are affable & social dancers, with our pair of dancing feet glued to the dance floor!

Look forward to see you there with no last minute impromptu trips.

    Cheers!

  31. We are 2.5 months away from our Dinner and Dance event in JB. Both Sally Tan and Lydia Chin are busy preparing the Chinese and English segments. Doreen Chan is also busy working with KSK hotel for the rooms and the ballroom. Transport to and from Singapore is also going on smoothly, and the committee is looking toward an hilarious morning trip on Sat 8 July.

To get into the mood, and to encourage you to get your friends to come join us, here is a poster designed and prepared by Yoon Chin. Yoon Chin says this is the first time she is creating a poster for a SHC D&D. TQ and well done Yoon Chin.

  40. I just signed in to this SHC chat and noticed that Christine Neo and Amy Yu have been included in table 4. We informed through here early May before 5 May and again on 5 May at SHC meetup at Asia Towers when we first met Doreen & 2 other ladies in the organizing team that we will not be able to join SHC Dinner & Dance in JB 8-9 July.

  41. One night in JB is all about bringing back the YesterYears.

Now, we are just over a month to our event. We have to start looking into our wardrobes, and see what we have. What would you have worn in the 70s. Lets start with some ideas.

CarolineG, what are you and your partner going to wear? Give us some ideas.
And, SusanC, I remember you have some paranakan history in you. If you can share your thoughts, all the girls and boys will have some ideas too.

SamG, you are always in Malaysia and JB to be precise. Please share your dressing ideas.

We have also Rose White, I definitely look forward to your dress tips too. By the way, if you do a comment, there is a Add Media at the bottom of the comment b ox. Show us a picture.

    Lets crack our heads.

    Terence Seah

  42. We have finetuned our program for the entertainment at KSL on Sat 8 Jul 2017. JeffG, Sally, LydiaC and Doreen met KSL Banquet manager, and we have finetuned most of our needs for the night.

Unlike the previous year, DoreenC and committee have secured the use of a professional Karaoke system, with TV. This will definitely bring out the best of our singers. The sound AV system is great, and I am sure all of us will enjoy the songs and the dancing. I am sure, even I a non-dancer, would be able to tune my legs to the tempo..

Lydia Chin has been working hard in put together her English segment. Here, we will hear our talented singers, who have been training and practising regularly for the event. Lydia has also planned a surprise game, plus two other surprises. Lydia is full of surprises. I appreciate the effort she is putting into this event to make every participant enjoy a good “One night in JB”.

There are two other segments, and I shall give more updates next week.

It is still not too late to join us at KSL. Even if you are not coming, you may also like to contribute some items as prizes or gifts. Lydia is in charge of prizes, so please be in touch with her. You can also indicate here.

    Good night.

In the 70s, we weare hot pants and boots. I may be able to do the jive and cha chan in them but I am afraid I cant waltz or rumba wearing that.
However, I have some photos to share what I wore when I was sweet Seventeen.

  46. Caroline,

I was trying to find a video clip showing hotpants fashion so that we can adopt the idea during our D&D. Couldnt find it.

Well, i chance upon a clip which shows men and ladies fasion during the 70s. Hee it is, and hopefully sets the mood for our “One night in JB”.

  48. Christina, could you help to check if table 5 no.3, Doreen Ong has made any
payment. for dinner and dance event. Doreen Ong said who has registered for her. Or maybe there is another Doreen Ong. We are helping each other. No other issues behind

    Thank you

    Cheers

  49. Last year, at our D&D at KSL JB, we had two volunteer DIs whom we had approached to participate in the dancing segments.

This year, the committee is thinking of doing same. Maybe unusual, but we thot this can add to the fun, and balance the sexes too. We are making this event more than just out of Singapore. More for members to know each other better.

Please note we have a social networking session from 5pm to 6.30pm. After registration, you will meet Susan Chan (popularly know as Sue Chan). She will grace this session, and she will help you mingle around. We have drinks and nuts during this session, so be early.

    See you everybody.

  57. Here’s an update on our “One night in JB” at KSL JB.

In the past few weeks, there have been preparations by all the performing groups. Well Sally, Lydia and Jeff are keeping them as surprises. I am sure this will be an entertaining evening. Sally is managing the Chinese segment, Lydia the English segment with dancing, games and prizes, and Jeffrey ending the evening with “bring back the yesteryears”.

What is like, especially with organising SilverHairsClub activities, is the members responsible for the segments, are responsible, they know what they want to make the show fun and that they are truly dedicated. TQ Sally, Lydia and Jeffrey. So much for the entertainment portion.

On this note, we have set Sun 25 June 2017 as the deadline to book your tickets and hotel accommodation. After this date, a waiting list will be set up. Please encourage your friends who are still considering to get their tickets now.

  92. TIME really flies. THE BIG DAY many have been waiting for has arrived. I will be in Malaysia too – somewhere 6000 feet above sea level. I will miss the song and dance at KSL. I share a song that I would have sung if I were there. Mesmerising lyric.

Have an enjoyable and memorable July evening.

    DC

  93. To Terence & the organising committee,

Wishing you a very successful and enjoyable dinner and dance, and good fellowship with long standing members and friends.

Sorry I couldn’t join you but I’ll imagine the great fun at the big party.

    Cheers!

  94. Tomorrow Sat night, we shall be having our Dinner and Dance at KSL resort, JB. This year, our theme is “One night in JB”.

The committee comprises Christine Teo, Sue Chan, Lydia Chin, Sally Tan, Doreen Chan, Jeffrey Gan and Terence Seah. We have also two participating members, name Christina Chan, treasurer and Yoon Chin, who prepared the tags and voupons. Unlike previous events, this evening is divided into segments, each under the charge of one committee member.

Do come early. The coach PA9645K leaves Newton Carpark at 8am. For those who are late, see u at KSL. We will arr at 1pm.

A question on Booze. There is a cover charge. If you intend to drink liquor, plse check and order from the hotel staff, at your own cost.

    See u there.

    Terence Seah

  95. My partner and I want to thank the organising committee for all the hard work put in to try and ensure everything goes smoothly and that everyone would be happy.
Hotel room was good with great buffet breakfast. And thank goodness there is a seat for me for the return trip (and I need to pay for one way only) because I have a huge piece of luggage.
Coming back to the party. It depends on your expectations. If you are easy going, dance when the music plays and sit and wait patiently for the next song, whether the singing was good or not so good, basically to make the best out of the situations, you will be satisfied, like my partner and me. We had a great time. We shared table with awesome people. Danced till we dropped. Didnt eat much even though there was a variety of yummy food. Had a little if everything because I didn’t want my spare tyres to appear in my body hugging outfit.
The only spoiler was several people who were there ,didn’t know their place.
Nevertheless, I had a great time!
    Thank you once again.
    Cheers
    Caroline aka Carly

  96. Our SHC annual D/D is finally over. From the SHC website, it seems there were around more than 80 pax, unknown reason there were a lot of empty seats.

This year’s two of the committee members emphasise before the event 2017 D/D will be better then last year, but it was a disaster especially the Chinese segment. Seemed like ” FRIENDS CLUB” Karaoke and not SHC event as those sing in Chinese segment by the circle of outsider friends instead of the member! Those singers called as champion in KRK are all out of tune by few singers, perhaps the person who arranged really non-professional to handled it and spoiled the whole event.

English segment songs are good and thanks to the efforts by Lydia.

Jeffery Gan and his wife, Irene Lee deserved a pat on the back for their performance.

The buffet was sucks and room in KSL hotel comfortable.

Programmes were very boring and a disappointment and some members ever left as early before 10pm .

However I still would like to thanks the committee for putting in the effort to organised the event.

    Judy

  97. 1 ) I agree with Judy Lim in the Chinese Segment or Karaoke that one of the female singers vioice was too LOUD more of SHOUTing LOUDly into the microphone than singing a Hokkien song naturally.
    .
V.Sad to say that instead of listening to a melodious voice I was bombarded by her continous ” NOISE ” from the microphone.

SORRY to say that I am someone easily IRRITATED and affected with LOUD NOISE in this case by this lady MJ singer.

I kept asking myself am I attending a Getai Karaoke Contest as the 7th Ghost Festival is approaching soon ?

As this is a SHC private event PRIORITY should be given to SHC MEMBERS to sing and only if there is any extra time then to outsiders.

However , with SINCERE appreciation and NOT cheap flattery I LOVE to hear Caroline Gee’s singing her melodious songs And I always looking forward to listening more songs from her.

2 ) Judy Lim I totally DISAGREE with you that the food during our D and D dinner SUCKS. ? ? ? One man”s meat is another man poison.

Whatever food which was displayed on the table in the KSL ballroom are truly AUTHENTIC MALAYSIAN ( MALAY ) cuisines .

Out of the 6 good quality dishes provided I ENJOY eating the very spicy dry lamb rendang which was very sedap ( delicious ) comparable to the same food in the more expensive well known Indonesian Tambuah Mas restaurant @ Orchard Road Tangling Shopping Centre , Ramayana and Cinta Manis restaurants.

The 6 dishes together with salad , dessert , drinks and mushroom soup provided was more than enough to fill our stomachs. And by limiting to 6 dishes it helps greatly to cut down on food wastage considerably. and I am happy that the person in charge took this into consideration . Kudos to him or her. for foresight.

3 ) I am very HAPPY with the KSL hotel room. It was so SPACIOUS and the bed is comfortable. with basic necessities provided .

The only thing that I am unhappy with the room was a bit dark at night . There were NO lights at the ceiling shinning down on the bed headboard . Other than this I will give a thumbs up for this room at $72 per night on a twin sharing basis. . The shower was good as there was high water pressure . Only hotel room I ever come across that provides an ironing board for guests to use.

In Manila Quezon City the hotel room is given a bed , a chair with NO basic necessities ie NO kettle , fridge , safe deposit box , even no room service for ordering meals yet we have to pay $60 per night but the service by the staff at the reception lobby was EXCELLENT.

They even go out of the way to help you to give clear directions on how to go to tourist attractions as we travel by free n easy way.

Unlike in Hong Kong the service even at the 4 star Kowloon Hotel @ Tsim Sha Tsui was below my expectation. Whenever you ask the reception staff at the lobby for directions to tourist attractions they are unhappy and quite reluctant to answer you after 2 questions. Instead they will ask you to join their local expensive tour packages .

The service at KSL hotel was commendable and the staff were warm and courteous .

KSL staff . Keep up your good work ! Appreciated. Steven Chan

  98. Sorry forgotten to thank all of you , the hard work , time and effort sacrifice by the committee members to bring this D n D shc eventv @ KSL to fruition.

I am still puzzled why so many members left after 10 pm ?

Could it be ( i ) the programme was so boring as many dancers expect more ballroom dance music / songs NOT necessary to be accompanied by singing most of the time .

If there is really an urgent need for singing accompany then it is better to held a separate Talentime Singing Karaoke Contest on a different date and leave this night exclusively for D n D event and nothing else.

This is my CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK and it take2 pain for me to write here .

Wether you choose to Agree or Disagree is entirely up to you

    1. Dear Steven,
I agree with you about having “live” singing throughout the night, which was not necessary. Maybe just a couple of songs to show our SHC talents. For the rest of the evening, I would be very happy to have DJ spinning the songs for us to dance to, reducing the waiting time for the next song to come on.
The best was kept to the last when we had non-stop music from the talented couple, Irene & Jeffrey Gan.
However, like I said, my partner and I enjoyed ourselves.
      Cheers
      Caroline aka Carly

  99. I am glad to have participated in this year D n D though I am not into dancing and even eating.

I was not at the 2016 event thus unable to compare. But should we compare in the first place though the venue remain the same. The theme of the event may have vary and the timeline have changed. I understood from some of the last year committee, there were some hiccup with the sound system last year.

The committee members are also new except for Lydia who soldier on.
What is perfection when the proverb ” One man’s meat is another man’s poison”
    ring so true.

What I was able to witness was the tremendous effort put up by the committee to pull this off. None are professional except for Jeffrey and Irene perhaps. Because of their thrive to hit “perfection” there is bound to be debate (not to use the stronger word argument) “. Till to the some outsiders, it is still not up to some expectation not knowing the parameters and constraints they are bound to. It was also enjoyable to observe the dynamic of the committee in motion.
A bonus to me for the fee I paid for the dinner. And discover the wonderful personality traits in some of them.

I am able to witness this because I was enlisted to assist in some way like a “prop technician” and a singer. Thank for that privilege.

I would like to thank the committee for doing a very commendable job.
I am sure Terence felt the same though he has already expressed that in his speech.

It is always easier (or more fun ) to complain than to appreciate.
The committee did their very best that I know.

Worry not about the post mo-term comment. If it is constructive, take it as
an opportunity to improve if ever staying on for the next event.
If it is negative BUT invalid, treat it as noise.

Life is nothing but moments, That “One night in JB” is definitely an enjoyable moments for most.

  100. I was not there so I cannot comment on the event proper.

Reading the last several pieces here, I cannot help but admire Caroline’s diplomacy and solicitude. A rare and respectable species, if I may say.

WELL said, Leon – a fair and down to earth commentary. This statement alone says it all
“It is always easier (or more fun) to complain than to appreciate. The committee did their very best that I know”.

Let’s move on. We will seek “professional help” for future events, if budget permits. But even professionals may not share our preference of choices for meat. To them it may be poison.

    DC

  101. To me, “One Night in JB” was a wonderful event for members to interact and enjoy the moment, be it dancing, karaoke or the food. I have no problem with the food as the beef rendang was “shiok”. I wanted to “ta pau” some, but “pai seh leh”. The organising committee must have put in a lot of effort to make the event a success. So let us all give a round of applause to the organising committee for a job well done!
Of course, let us not forget the ballroom waltz performance of Caroline and her partner. I liked Irene and Jeffrey with their Pink Panther show and also their dancing segment was just great.
Let us all move on and think of what we can do for D&D 2018. Maybe “One Night in Bangkok”.
Finally, good relationships keep us happier and healthier. So try and keep well and be happy!
    Mega

  102. Our One night in JB is over. Some enjoyed the evening, but unfortunately some parts of the evening program did not turn up well, and we are now in a heated argument.

I am in India this whole week, and numerous members have contacted me to put a stop to the arguments and attacks. I managed to squeeze some time to make a comment.

It is difficult to stop members from commenting negatively or positively on this event. Anyway, no one will listen to me. At the same time, I encourage members and guests to speak their minds, good or bad. If we stop comments or this Post, the arguments will still continue offline.

Members, Sally, Judy, Shirleen, please speak your mind. I hope we can avoid personal attacks. Because other parties are enjoying our quarrels.

As EO of this event, I am responsible for the outcome of the evening. I apologise for things turning out unxpectedly or unexpectedly. You can direct your questions or disappointment at me. But the committee has worked hard, and I appreciate it.

Let’s continue with our feedback, and we try to be better for future events. I encourage members to understand that things do go wrong, and plse do not add oil to fire.

I do have a limit on how long we can continue. It may not be a solution, but we shall have to close this post at the end of this July.

  103. With every SHC events held, I would pen my post-event feedback on the forum, be it Positive or Negative! The respective EOs concerned should be in a position to ACCEPT praises or criticisms in their stride, without any Resentment.

Prior to our dinner time @ 1700hrs, we had a short networking session to get acquainted with some new members & guests which was most encouraging. All existing pioneer members were seen exchanging beary hugs to one another etc.

Now a tinge of disappointing feedback….some members who left the event hall @ 2235 hrs felt that the English segment was too short, while the Mandarin one was too Draggy (90mins)! The Mandarin segment were dominated by Singers who sang without following the tempo of the music as it was played.

Similar to a GETAI stage, one can expect a boisterous performance; but its not the case for our July 8th event! While we can understand that little hiccups were inevitable, but a string of Mandarin singers sang overwhelmingly loud which was rather disturbing! As the saying goes: ‘Too Many Chiefs, and not enough Indians’! Despite the Chaos, me and my dance partner just continued to dance to our hearts’ content.

Before the closing of the D & D event, it was apparent that the evening was uproariously concluded by our talented Jeff & Irene Gan with their Pink Panther performances ~ Kudos!

Oh yes…a little highlight on the buffet served — its just Mediocre. Hopefully, a sit-down dinner can be planned for our next D & D if it does suffice..

    Cheerio!

  104. I had attended last year’s D&D and I had my reservations which I prefer to keep to myself.
As for this year’s event and comments, one cannot help but notice one phenomenon. Those who expressed great satisfaction and professed that they enjoyed every bit of the event presented a one-sided view.
Of course they did, for right from the beginning they secured an ‘enclave’ by
forming a table of companions whom they felt comfortable with and also would serve as dancing partners.
But not everyone was in that enviable position for if she or he approached
for conversation or a dance at another table, she or he might be rebuffed.

    1. Dear Robert,
You are partially correct. However, Not everyone knows each other. For example, at my table, I only know Ronnie and Pearl. I did not know the rest of the people at my table. However, we make an effort to get to know each other and after a while, we were talking and joking like old friends. If you do not try, you wont know. I also noticed that people were going to other tables to ask for a dance with no issue at all.
So its up to individual. You tell yourself you are going to have fun, then you shall get your fun. If you remain negative, then that’s it.
Yes, I was one of the fortunate ones to have my regular dance partner with me, so yes we enjoyed ourselves very much.
      Cheers
      Caroline aka Carly

  105. Some times it is good for us to act blind and ignore one another’s short comings, in order to be happy*

No matter how many times the teeth bite the tongue, they still stay together in one mouth. That’s the spirit of FORGIVENESS.*

Even though the eyes don’t see each other, they see things together, blink simultaneously and cry together. That’s UNITY.”*

*May all of us had the  spirit of forgiveness, unity and togetherness*.

     1. _”Alone I can ‘Say’ but together we can ‘Talk’._

      2. _”Alone I can ‘Enjoy’ but together we can Celebrate_

      3.  _’Alone I can ‘Smile’ but together we can ‘Laugh’._

That’s the BEAUTY of Human Relations.

Everyone is important according to his/her own unique purpose…. Never look down on anyone unless you are admiring their shoes…..

This year’s D n D events , many familiar faces were not present. Instead, we had many non members.

While of course we would like to see our own members performing, but no objection for non members  who filled the void. After all, they are paying guests. But then those non members seem to occupy all in chinese segment.

Talking about professionalism, none of us is worthy of that label. Only JEFFREY and her wife IRENE i would say are professional.  All committe members were doing their best to help Terence make the event a success.

No music and voice will sound sweet if one is full of resentment for whatever personal reason.

I thank each and every committee member who has helped to make this event a success.
    See you next year .

    Stella

  106. WOW…Stella…nice one. I like this line particularly,
“No music and voice will sound sweet if one is full of resentment for whatever personal reason”.
Indeed…. beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and melody is in the ears of the listener.

Robert – I share your perceived “phenomenon”. Enjoyment (or the lack of it) is a very personal achievement. In every event, even a walk in the park, there are people who may feel isolated, neglected and unwanted. “Nobody wants to talk with me…boo hoo hoo”. Life is tough at times. But after surviving half a century or more, who cares?

In a D n D event, the organiser does not owe anybody a dance partner; certainly not a “table of companions”. If one believes he will be lonesome in a boisterous soul-shattering environment, then he must ask himself, “WTF am I doing there?” Sipping cold wine and watching Korean TV drama at home will be more entertaining.

    Best regards
    DC

  107. Hi Guys,

Just finished my eye check up this afternoon. Results 9/10 .
Have been busy the last 2 days with Irene presenting talks and I videoman , haha etc. .Also, make up my private dance lessons with my students whom I owed as last week was chaotic with last minute preparations.
    .
Like to say a Big “Thank You” to all the committee members who worked real hard and to all attending. It was my first time joining as a committee. It was not easy though. Remember, Committee’s job is a thankless job.

I was reading through all the postings and I hope we look forward to better arrangements in the near future. Let’s forget any shortcomings which is bound to happen in any event. Every event is a learning opportunity for all, learning from the good and the not so good outcomes. It is unproductive at this time to “point fingers” as this only brings about sour feelings and unpleasantness. We are all matured adults that are able to see the constructive aspects of things.

I do believe that every person involved in these episodes had the sincere intention to do good for the event. None of the committee was out to disrupt the flow. But when things don’t go as planned, it becomes a lesson for all to learn and to reflect how can we do it better the next time.

Sally had tried her best to sell tickets as initially the response was poor, maybe 5 tables only. She came forth with a good intention to try and fill the hall with as many guests as possible. However, this good intentioned effort brought about other consequences. I tried calling for an urgent meeting 2 days before the event as I noticed her segment was likely to overrun and this would have adverse impact. But due to time constraint, we couldn’t make the meeting happen. Irene, too was trying to assist when problems arose, we knew the reason, but she was told they could handle.

We are all a family and the past is over. Cheers!

I remembered when Glamour Danzfit did a big event 6 years back, 55 tables in Orchid Country Club. Despite it being a significant event, with professional MC, DJ and runners, we still had many hiccups. Overall, we lost $10,000 in that event. End of the day, we learned to prepare better and down the road, our events were always good with no losses.

On behalf of Irene and myself, we appreciate the support and encouragement that Stella, Sue Chan, Mega and many others had expressed and staying thru the evening just to make it happen.

Not forgetting Terence had never given up hope on us time and again, even though events may not have turned out as we hope it should have.

A big “Thank You” to Terence for initiating the event in the first place.

    Look for to the next D n D…………..in Bangkok……..hehehe

    Jeffrey and Irene!

  108. Last week, I was travelling in India. It was a fruitful trip, although temperatures were unbearing hot. During this time, I kept up with the comments and feedback re the Dinner and Dance at KSL. Due to whole day travel, I was unable to compose myself and give members my feedback and position. Well, I just arrived in Bkk after having slept more than 24 hours.

I think my mind is clear. First, please remember I am the EO for this event. All committee members report to me, take instructions from me and I am wholly responsible for the success or failure of the event. For any failure, members should direct all complaints to me, and I shall address them. I welcome all comments and feedback which we will use for future events.

I am aware the unhappiness over songs, choice, volume, singers and the manner, will continue for some time. As I said before, this is a matured club, and no one needs to listen to me. However, for whatever the reasons for the happiness, I hope you will let life go on. I know all of you, well enough to know you are regular supporters of the SilverHairsClub. In particular, Sally and Shirleen, I advise you to remember the interest of the Club, and why you have joined SilverHairsClub in the first place.

For all other members who are unhappy with the event, let’s encourage Sally and Shirleen to move on. You will be doing a disservice to SilverHairsClub, by adding fire to oil at this stage. And to those who are doing so, you have my appreciation.

Some parts of the event have failed your expectations. And I am wholly apologise for this happening. I hope Sally, Shirleen, Judy and others who may not have spoken up to accept my apology.

I am ready to take questions and comments till the end of this month. Feel free to raise them, and I shall answer you.

This post will not accept personal attacks. Plse refrain.

I look forward to hearing from one and all.

    Terence Seah

  109. Many guests who attended the KSL were trilled to see Rose White, and her background singers and dancers, providing the intro into our “One night in JB”. Rose sang the song “Si Jantong Hati, a beautiful Malay song, very appropriate song for the evening.

But few of us knew of the pains and effort Rose made to perform for us that night. After leaving JB customs but just before KSL, she realised that her Video CD was left behind in Singapore. The panic and excitement began in the coach with calls to Singapore and those on the way to bring the CD. On arrival at KSL, Rose disappeared to hunt for the video in JB shops. It would be disheartening if she could not get the CD. Finally, she had help and we were able to see the beautiful performance.

Rose, we appreciate what you have done for us. Not only the performance rehearsals but also for making the evening very memorable for the club. And for those who enjoyed her song and performance, let’s give Rose a huge clap.

    Here’s her song.

    TQ Rose.
