  1. My interest……………..is to dig my nose, starting with my left nostril for a full 2 minutes then into my right nostril, and then one more cycle to check that the cleaning has been thorough.

Many out there share this interest but too shy to say it. We can stand next to each other and the line may be longer than what was seen at the height of the Hello Kitty fever…………………………………………….hehehe, you must really have a fever to be interested in nose digging; worst, to stand in a line to show it off…………………yucks !

  2. Hi Tim Kor/Norlinda/Zahriah,

    1) Is it for real and are you kidding?

You are so good at words that sometimes I cannot distinguish between truth or fiction.

If for real, I think it is quite disgusting to “KOREK” in front of me/other SHCians.

And I have yet to see/hear of your “Hello Kitty ” queue.”
Gembira lah sekali kita BERKOREK bersama sama.

What say you Norlinda puteri / chantek Zahriah ?

Sudah lama tak ada dengar awak di dalam forum.

“Season Bertelor” Katok! Katok! Katok! …bunyi ayam.
    Ha! Ha!

  3. Hi all,

Searching for gardening beginners / enthusiasts / lovers ?

If you are keen into gardening and would like to SHARE with fellow SHCians, pls.SHARE and comment down here.

After my SHC grp Vietnam Tour , I will be going out to “round” up interested members/beginners and continue with my thread on “The Love of Gardening” .

It is ONE of my other passions besides travelling and cooking for survival. Aren’t we blessed to have Tian Soo as a SHC member and I can tap on his expertise in ” ORGANIC FARMING ”

I do NOT believe in someone being called a “green finger” . ALL of us can become “green fingers” if we understand basic skills in planting and maintenance.

If ONLY I could own a vast piece of land in Singapore, I would like to transform it into a ” Babylon Paradise Garden”

    That is my DREAM ! .DREAM,DREAM,DREAM ..DREAM,DREAM,DREAM ..
and to follow my favourite song… To dream the Impossible dream,… to touch the unreachable star. This is my quest…

  4. Hi Steven

Would like to pick up gardening from you. I have a corridor space that I hope to transform into a partial garden.

If you want to take over the transformation to fulfil a small part of your big dream, I’ll be more than happy to oblige. Lei chut lig, ngoh chut qin (canto) but in the process I ‘ll be learning too so that I’ll know how to maintain it.

    Thanks for sharing your passion.

    JassmineT

  5. Jass said “I have a corridor space that I hope to transform into a …..garden….to fulfil……your big dream………” That got me dreaming as to what can happen.

In my dream, I see a corridor transformed into a lush garden even as the town council people were frowning and the hdb, fuming. In the middle of the garden stood a coconut tree and next to the tree stood Steven praying to heaven. And soon it happened.

In a flowing satin dress came Jass, pretty and in her best. She winked, Steven blinked. She winked again, Steven blinked again and so the signal confirmed their identities.

She started to swirl and twirl round the coconut tree. Steven began to prance after her and round the tree like sumokong set free. The pace added 1 notch, 2 notches and…….

When I looked again, the entire membership of SHC was there, clapping, singing and cheering as Steven continued chasing Jass round the coconut tree, ocasionally stopping for that head forward head backward movements with the rest of SHCians joining in that head exercise. Unrehearsed but it was actually better than what I got to watch in Ind romantic movies.

Yes, Steven obviously had chut liq and there was no need for Jass to chut qin for us all to enjoy. Then, my dream was shattered when I felt ah Ho’s roller pin rolling on my butt…………..

  6. Hi Steven & Jassmine,

I grow for my own consumption herbs, chillies, macadamia, figs, guava and citrus fruit tress in my backyard and flowering plants in frontyard. Let me know if you want some seeds to start your garden.

    Mary Lee (from Perth)

  7. Tim @# 5

Looks like even a ‘safe’ post cannot escape from thy wild imagination. Hope thy over-the-top Bollywood dream scene won’t frighten Sifu away.

Wonder who the disciplinarian ah Ho is. I’ll like to give her/him a feather duster in case her/his rolling pin breaks against thy thick hide.

Okay, jokes aside. Do join the gardening club if you have the time – Sifu is giving lessons for free!

  8. Hi everyone,
I’m looking for people who enjoy reading….books I mean, not comics or magazines. I’ve tried putting up a ‘Reading Circle’ post, but the response wasn’t great.
Perhaps there are a few who just want to share their thoughts on books they have read or even exchange books?
    Do contact me. :-)

  9. Hi again. I’ve also tried looking for people who would like to play Scrabble and/or Mahjong (very small stakes, or even just chips).
    Any takers?

  10. Hi Mary Lee (Perth)

Wow! So much gardening to do – ideal activity for retirees.
Thank you for your generous offer of seeds. I’ll see what is easy to grow in hot, humid climate. Right now my knowledge of gardening is almost zero!

Will keep in touch. Take care.

    Regards,
    Jassmine

  11. Hi TIM KOR , Terence / others,

Pai seh! Paiseh. Though I am a Cantonese, my Cantonese is v.poor and neither have I study Mandarin before.
As such,I can only hear certain words or sounds that sounds like the above.

Appreciate very much if TIM KOR, our Canto expert uses his INGENUITY to decipher me the titles of those selected Canto songs.

At the same time,to find someone with similar interest ENJOYING Canto Pop songs and Andrew Lloyd Webber Musicals.

  12. Hi Norhayati, no I haven’t. What kind are they? Sounds like scary kinds. I seldom read books that make me feel scared to be alone, hehe.
I like biographies and some non fiction books. I enjoy fiction books that have romance in them. They are ‘feel good’ reading.
Have you read Christiane Northrup’s books? I watched her on Oprah and must try and get them.

I’ve just finished the Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet. A very good book, rather lengthy but so captivating.

  13. Jass, ah Ho bo ho bcos ah Ho beats you into a bodoh so dont need to be another ah Ho. When the Garden of Eden is up, I’ll be there with my primates to listen to Steven’s canto pops and read Mary-C’s sex books.

Mary-C, I thought I had retired and took on piecemeal consultancy work but when the numbers didnt add up nicely, and I wasnt receiving much challenge up there, I had to say adios to my retirement. Yes, I’ll go full time again and will be enjoying myself in thess 1.5 weeks.

Call me if you want to play scrabble or want me to ecrub you with small sticks or chips…………..

  14. Well, Tim, good that you are going back to full time work. In that case, how to call upon you to play Scrabble?

What sex books you talking about?

  15. Hi Mary

I also love to play scrabble but honestly have not been
playing the game for a long time. I can take half day’s leave just to play scrabble so long as the date chosen does
not clash with my busy period at work, hahaha. Please include me in your list.

    Cheers
    Alicia

  16. Hi Mary Chan,

…Well, Tim, good that you are going back to full time work. In that case, how to call upon you to play Scrabble?

What sex books you talking about?

The IDIOT book on How to know MORE about SXX but too AFRAID to ask? Ha! Ha!

  17. Hi Jassmine,

Gardening is very therapeutic and good for our well-being. At 8 years old, I started my vegie plot on my dad’s chicken and pig farm in Ponggol.

Before you start planting, loosen soil, add soil conditioner and bury vegetable & fruit skin (banana skins are best) clippings for fertilizer. For hot weather like Spore, you can grow low maintenance plants like chillies, chives, pandan leaves, curry leaves, lemon grass, galanga for your cooking. In between these plants you can grow flowering plants like balsams, dahlias and petunias. Put a dragon urn in the middle of this stretch of space and rear guppies (to avoid mozzies). Place a plank across the urn and put a pot of money-plant – let the leaves droop into the urn to protect the guppies. Use the water from the urn to water your plants. You will have a beautiful full-grown garden in a couple of months.

If you need infor on where to get these plants, let me know.

    Have fun!

    Mary Lee (from Perth)

  18. Mary-C, I am available for life but available to play scrabble till the week beginning 22 June 08, and on weekends. Yes, life for me will be hectic again, shuffling btwn the east-west-east………………

(Brb, going for my lunch now)

  19. Steven #22
Is that what you have been reading? Perhaps that explains why you behave like you do. Only an idiot will read “The IDIOT book on How to know MORE about SXX but too AFRAID to ask” HAHAHA!

  20. Tim Liu, yes, better make full use of whatever time you have now. Soon you will be back in ‘jail’ from 9 to 5, Mons to Fris, hehe.
Serious about Scrabble or not? Alicia is keen. If you are, we can play.

  21. Hi Mary, Norhayati,

It’s perfectly fine to discuss books on this forum. This would encourage others to participate. In fact, I would be interested to know what you and other SHCians read. Sad to say, I read the last fiction book, some 30 years ago.

    Terence Seah

  22. Norhayati, The book Pillars of the Earth may not be to your liking as it’s a historical novel set in the 1100s, but the mysteries, suspense, tension, action, revenge, love, hate, despair and intrigue are so absorbing that it is difficult to put the book down.
It spans several centuries and generations and takes some remembering of who is who etc, so unless you are into this kind of books, you may not enjoy it.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fantastic book and still return to it sometimes to recall certain episodes that come to mind.
I’m trying to start the follow up of this book, entitled “World Without End”. It’s so thick and heavy! My son-in-law bought it for my daughter, Sherry, who is also reading it at the moment. He should have got her the paperback version rather than the heavy hard covered one.

Another book I have is “The Joy Luck Club” which I haven’t actually read although I’ve watched the serial on TV. Perhaps you might be interested in that. It’s about 4 generations of Chinese-American daughters.

    Cheers

  23. Terence, perhaps you could start again? Begin with short novels. What about the light hearted one by Neil Humphreys, “Scribbles from the Same Island”? I have it and you can borrow it if you want. You could probably finish it on a flight somewhere.
    Cheers

  24. Hi MaryC,

I don’t mind talking books here but I’m afraid others who are not into reading might be bored.

Anyway, The Alienist and Angel of Darkness are not scary books. They are period psychological thriller. I don’t like reading / watching scary books / shows. I watched The Exorcist decades ago and I still remember some of the unpleasant scenes (like the head turning scene by Linda Blair and that greenish bile!!!)

I’m not into mind-boggling books either, just reading to de-stress. Have you read books by Erica James (more family-oriented), Janet Evanovitch (funny female P.I), Tess Gerritsen and Mariah Stewart? I find them easy to read. No need to crack my head, especially Janet Evanovitch’s book. She is so funny. I laughed so hard when I read her first in the series book “One for the Money”. You should read it.

If you like Ken Follet, you should try Lee Child as well.

Oh yes! I’ve read The Joy Luck Club and it’s sequel, I can’t remember the title.
A beautifully written story. One book I remember reading which span a few generation was Alex Haley Roots. It was made into a TV series too. You watched that one?

I’ve not read Christiane Northrup’s books. Maybe I’ll look for her books when I’m next in the library. Oh yes, I usually borrow books from the library.

    Regards

    Norhayati

  25. Hi Marylee (perth) @# 23

Really appreciate your suggestions for pre-gardening starters like me. I can almost see the ‘garden’ in my mind.

I like the idea of water in the dragon urn for convenience when watering the plants, but instead of rearing guppies, I might have a little fountain bubbling all the time. The gurgling sound of water is extremely calming and therapeutic.

    Now I’m impatient to start!

    Regards,
    Jassmine

  26. Hi Mary C,

Can you tell me what’s the book about, “World without End”? I don’t read too many books now as I read too slowly. Must be aging. Cheers

  27. Hi Jassmine,

Water flowing gently from dragon urn onto heart-shaped pebbles pool lined with rows of solar-powered standing lights amidst white scented jasmine plants, add a couple of porcelain ducks and frogs…wow!

    Enjoy your garden!

    Mary Lee (from Perth)

  28. SCRABBLE, SCRABBLE, SCRABBLE!

Calling SCRABBLE enthusiasts. Want to join Alicia, Tim and me in the game? We are planning to have a game next Thurs, the 19th of June. Come and join us.

  29. Hahaha, N’yati must have thought that Mary-C is enthused with sx books and so had suggested a chat via email…………..no lah, Mary-C is as straight as an arrow but where she aims her arrow only she knows, probably at the apple placed atop Sengh’s donald duck turban.

Perhaps, if scrabble is played in the evening, more cd join us after work?

  30. Tim, Regarding Scrabble. Of course we can have games in the evenings too.
It’s just that Alicia and I want to start playing in the afternoon. It’s not just Scrabble lah. Also some chat and gossip too, hehe.
Perhaps I should start a post on Scrabble. What do you think?

Of course I’m straight as an arrow, my aim that is. Hehe.

  31. “Gossip”….? No fun leh but go for yr lips, can consider if I am in the mood. Go for a sip, anytime, better if followed by my clothes you rip and together in the pool we dip till you slip and flip. heeeee………………

Methink if folks like to play scrabble, they ‘ll anser it here with their suggestion of suitable place/time.

  32. Hey Mary at #37 and Tim at #38

I like to play Scrabble. Best time for me would be on a Saturday late morning or early afternoon.

Joyce, our champion Scrabble player from last year’s Games Day. Wanna play?

Joy (What is the maximum score for my name on the Scrabble board ah?)

  33. Yeay! Joy, another Scrabbler!
What, no more on course? The next few sat afternoons may be occupied. I will see if I can make it on the last Sat. Can’t promise just yet.
    Welcome. :-)

  34. Hi Joy / Mary,

I can’t deny that i love to play scrabble and it’s hard to find someone to play with when i’m in the mood and have some times for this game.

Am pretty tied-up with outdoor activities this few months but with suitable timing, i’d of course like to join you.
Have not been playing since the last games day leh…

    Cheers / Joyce Tan

  35. Hahaha, I havent found a hole to hide for some years already but if you gals do hv a good, unspoilt hole for me, I might just use it once in a while. Heeee, i can see blushes with some rushing off quickly to do a quality check……nvm lah, at our age, where to find unspoilt ones?

Maximum score for JOY? Well, when you find a STREAK standing, just lie down in JOY and that shd add up quite handsomely esp if you manage to Y on the red.

I hv decided to quit my damning hobby for the past 35 years and will have a bit of time on weekends now (altho priority will still goes to my kiddo who will miss me on weekdays). Whatever, I am on for this Thursday’s scrabble challenge unless it’s called off.

  36. Hi Tim

Scrabble is a good hobby to indulge in for the next 35 years. We could be playing at the old folks home if you book a suite next to mine.

    Joy

  37. Haha, Joy. I dont expect myself to live another 35 years, Gourd willing, probably another 15 years so you will hv to join me down there but I shd be able to make it comfortable for you down there, with a 20-year head-start.

  38. Heeee, in Canton, yr #54 is known as gek jiong fatt or the art of taunting me to jump into a swimming pool when there’s no water.

Well, since you hv the exact number of persons to play scrabble, me cant behave myself when I hv nothing to do and might go searching for dropped word-tiles under the table. Has asked my kiddo whether she wants to go and she’s mulling over it…………

  39. When I started this Post to look for other SHCians with similar interests, I was hoping to encourage you to write a profile of yourself. I see many of you have forgotten to write something about yourself; altho you may have written so much about other people or events.

Try again, do write a new Post of yourself, eg “Tim Liu – Profile”. When someone looks for you, and write something under this Tim Liu’s Post, you will get an alert in your mailbox.

Have you written your profile? Good luck.

    Terence Seah

  40. Hi all,

Talking about finding people with similar interests next is how to enjoy the interest together. At times you can meet, but nowadays certain games can be played on line like scrabble if all the players used Yahoo games.

They can all arrange to meet at a certain time and play scrabble online saving alot of travel time. Even better still some members can watch the game on line and chat with the players. So ,Joy,Joyce,Mary,Tim ?? do you want me to plan a scrabble game on line say for just one game that takes about an hour ,one evening ?? But you all have to have a Yahoo Messenger account and have the games installed.

Seconly also looking for someone who windsurf and is planning to go to those really nice place to windsurf like Pahang seaside, Bali and Vietnam Beach somewhere. Can email me at bswi@yahoo.com. Cheers

  41. Ron W.
Playing Scrabble or any boardgame for that matter, online is not quite the same as face to face.
I’m game if you want to play ‘one evening’. Depends on when.

  42. Hi Mookuas and Du lians movie fans,

While ironing and simultaneously viewing the climax of the movie 881 ( Papaya sisters) , I came upon 4 different Hokkien “catchy” and melodious songs. With the subtitle in English , the lyrics helps me to APPRECIATE the true meaningful words that was sung in each Hokkien song.

Well , I found these 4 songs together with seeing the Malaysian PAPAYA sisters and DURIAN sisters
    (i) has uplifted my moods and
(ii) gave me the motivation to iron faster without burning my clothes.
iii) I could used their TECHNO music to do my aerobics dancing too in the morning.

However, I need HELP from all of you as I do NOT understand or write Mandarin.

    I need your SOS BADLY.

Do anyone knows where I can buy a DVD incorporating all these Papaya songs from the movie 881.

I had heard the Original CD version of Papayas Vol 2
from one one of my friends BUT I am NOT satisfied with the recording.

It lacks CRYSTAL CLEAR clarity and the
Oomph factor.( bass and treble NOT as clear and powerful)
Oh Oh …. almost 15 lines, will start another comment as suggested by Terence S.

  43. Hi Mookuas and Du lians movie fans,
    Contd from comment #59,

I had listen and saw the climax of PAPAYA sisters movies 8 times. I love its catchy and melodious songs.

THe 5 HOKKIEN PAPAYA songs have some of these brief lyrics translated with English subtitles .

I need to know 5 titles of these songs so that when I want to buy the DVD version I can print out the titles in Mandarin and show it to the salesgirl who often do NOT know how to speak English ( like a kai talking to an ump ,can be quite frustrating too as most CD shops are employing Chinese nationals to work to save boss from paying CPF and also offers less salary than the locals.

The 5 songs with some of the lyrics are :-

    1) Shouting Ho ! Ho ! I used to be a dance hostess,
Now I am a mama-san, if customers are looking for the mamasan ,pls. let me know.I will make arrangements for them to dance/sashay with the girls.
Calling ROBERT Lee, ROBERT Lee……….. Hee! hee!

    2) From the Karen singer who sings while descending from the GETAI stage,
    I know I can wait.
I want to come to embrace you immediately.
I really want to be with you together.
U r just like as flower emitting such fragrance.
I want to hold you tight…..

    3) I had been traveling for 4 or 5 yrs.
I work day and night selling sundry goods.
I sell at a reasonable price.
Calling all aunties and uncles to taste my kopi…..

4)One lonely night,a girl waits under a lamp.
    She is 17 0r 18 and thinks of a young man……..

    5) Pls. do pick the wild flowers by the roadside.
for there are few in this world who will offer their love……

Pls. help me and write down the Chinese titles of the 5 songs in your comment.

I am sure some of you here are PAPAYA fans as well.

Thanks for yr help in anticipation.
    Steven Chan

  44. Steven Chan

Finding someone who is able to make his hairs STAND on his hands voluntary without moving it using his brain power to control.
