Lily Ho – Profile

Here’s my profile :

Born in 1956, I am a single parent with a teenage daughter.  I was married to a French expatriate and moved with him to Cairo (4 years), Shenyang (4 years), Beijing (2 years) and France (2 years).  Prior to that, I worked and lived in England for 3 years.  My daughter and I returned to Singapore in December 1998 and the long-distance divorce procedure was finalized by 2000.

I am currently a secretary to the MD of a French MNC.

I am not much into sports.  In my early 20s, I used to swim 3 times a week, play a little badminton, table tennis and billiard.  I started bowling when I was 15, and for about 2 years, my average score was around 150.  Although I can do some ice-skating and skiing, my only exercise regime these days, is dancing.   I dance 4 to 5 time a week doing line-dancing, social and Latin dances.  (I was a part-time dancer for the People’s Association in my mid 20s performing for National Day and Chin-Gay parades.)  I also enjoy cycling for leisure.

Unlike Terence, I’m not into cheap and low cost travel because of safety and time factor.  When I was single, I travelled mostly alone either for work or for holidays.  For work, I traveled mainly to Asian countries.  For holidays, I traveled mostly to Europe (I’ve seen more of Europe than my French husband).  After I got married, I travelled only first class because my ex-husband wouldn’t have it any other way.  All in all, I’ve been to 36 countries.

Food wise, I’m the type who eats to live and not lives to eat.  I’m not fussy with food and will not go out of the way or join a long queue for food like how some of my fellow Singaporeans do.  However, I do pine for certain gourmet food such as caviar, fois gras, couscous, steak tartar, salade gourmande, moules, fruits de mer, tarte flambé, jambonneau, rillettes en baguette and paté de lapin.

My greatest concern is my daughter – that, I will bring her up well to be a responsible and sensible person, strong in her faith and belief.  So far, she hasn’t given me any cause for worry.

My primary goal in life – is to be strong in my faith.  My secondary goals, is to be financially independent, fit and healthy, and to remain active for as long as I can.

I joined SHC since Oct. 2005 (Terence, please correct me if I’m wrong) and joined the first cycling meet in Nov.  There were only 4 of us (Charles Wee, Andrew Yeung, Low Yew Kwong and myself).  Charles added bubbles with remarks on the pictures taken on that day – they were so funny.  I tried to attach these photos of SHC’s first cycling meet here but was not successful.   (Charles, may be you can post those pictures on the SHC website huh?)

  1. Terence’s profile was rife with rave reviews so I cant bear to see this profile so forlorn, esp when we have been friends for 51 years. Following is my say.

We first met in the same uni-sex ward at the Kandang Kerbau Hospital in 1956. You were coy but still managed a smile at me. I murmured to myself, this girl wd grow up to be very attractive. You must have heard it and you have not failed me, thank you.

Our paths did not cross until now. During those prior times, I too got married, divorced…. and obtained a decree absolute (haha, not the coveted degree) for the last, 3 years after yours.

Lucky you have the comfort of home to work from; I drag myself to catch the early train in the morning from the east to the west.

If you’re not much into sports, you’d missed a lot of fun there. For instance, in rugby, you get to pinch yr opponent, tear off his shirt & even bite off his ear (it did happen !) with impunity. Should you decide not to play billiard, do pls tell. We can play pool, and with more joining us, pool more together.

You started bowling at 15; I started blowing my trumpet at abt that age when I was drafted in to play for a Club’s senior soccer team. My game suffered and for about 2 years, my average score per match was around 0.15, down from the 1.2 goals and a far cry from yr 150 for bowling.
My only exercise regime these days is restricted to my 2 index fingers tapping the keyboard to write.

You travelled well, jetting about in first class and having been to 36 countries. I usually visit the kampongs – 38 in all todate – and invariably received first class reception and the warmest hospitality.

Food wise, we’re similar in that we eat to live and not live to eat. While you could name gourmet food such as caviar, fois gras, couscous, steak tartar, salade gourmande, moule, fruits de la mer, tarte flambé, jambonneau, rillettes on baguette and paté de lapin in 1 single breath, I am not in this league and will count laksa, bakut teh, humchimpan, hainanese chicken rice as among the delectable food crafted by the best of heaven’s chefs.

My greatest concern, too, is my daughter – that, I will bring her up well to be a responsible and sensible person, strong, confident & forgiving. I pick her up from school daily, peel half-boiled eggs or oranges for her to eat as we walk home playing the 2-hand lom-jiam-pas. I can tell you, every second spent is worth its time in another’s justifying why he should be paid $3.1 million.

We met at birth and now meet in SHC. But she who sweetly smiled at me now wants to bash me with a baseball bat, haha, how age changes a girl………….

  2. Hey Tim,

Post your profile under your own name leh. Want me to post it for you? I can cut and paste Tim Liu’s Profile, want?

Oh, I don’t expect any comment other than : “I know of this place that serves the best tarte flambé.” for example. By the way, we couldn’t have met at birth in KK. I was born in a private clinic.

Anyway, thanks for the compliment. And for that, I’ll skip the baseball bat … just the rolling pin.

PS: I didn’t know you work. You seems to have a lot of time on hand judging by the number of comments you post.

  3. Halo Lily, since you werent another run-of-the-mill KK product but a more expensive one fr a pte clinic then you must be Lily Ho and not Ho Lily. Yes, now I remember, Ho Lily became a film star, acted in many shaw bros hits even as Lily Ho enjoyed French fare & trotting on a French mare at the arc de triompe.

Haha, how can you cut & paste tim ah liu’s above posting and call it his profile? It was merely a compare & contrast of our fate so far, and to predict how much more we might hv in common in our destiny. When the time is ripe, tim ah liu will write his memoir and price it @ $48, more saleable than hitherto the most widely read one selling for $32. Yes, it’ll be a pap….pay-n-peek into tim’s closeted life full of intrigue & suspense.

I was very scared to meet you yesterday at Bot Gdns but, hehe, there was neither bat nor pin rolling on my back but an evening of enjoying yr putting me on yr stool which you carried from home, and fanning me all over with poet Tu Fu’s creation. If I were to test waters and audition for mrs liu again, believe me, you’ll get a special invitation personally endorsed from me.

No work no money so must work hor. However, there’s a difference btwn working efficiently with the brains, and spending the full stretch of day working to clear the drains.

I too like to jon Terence to thank you for being SHC’s most dedicated supporter. Now, with a fan.

  4. hi Lily
how many times have u gone round the world? very soon u may have to visit the moon or other planets. which are your favourite countries if u wish to retire?
i m thinking of making my first trip to europe. advised that aug and sep wd be best since autumn. will be signing up for a group tour of abt 10 days for ard $2.8k. visit germany, france, switzerland, holland and end in uk. any thing i shd consider being first timer? thks for any advice fr a globe-trotter?
    cheers! henry

  5. Hi Henry

The weather will be mild in Aug/Sep being tail-end of summer. Autumn truly starts only in Oct where all trees (except the evergreens) turn orange-red, very beautiful and romantic – hope you are travelling with your love one. Advantage is that you don’t have to bring heavy clothing, just a trench coat or shower-proof windbreaker will do.

It’s hard to say which countries I like since country changes with time and situation. I used to like Yogoslavia which now no longer exist and have been devastated by the civil war. East Germany used to be calm and serene compared to West Germany, it is also now gone. The Acropolis in Athens was magnificent to roam in, day or night, is now cordoned off to prevent vandalism. I was one of the lucky ones to be able to climb to top of Pisa tower in Florence and the Giza pyramids in Cairo, or gaze at the “no-man’s land” at Charlie’s check-point or the Berlin wall. It’s now no longer possible to do all these.

Anyway, I do have a preference for less developed places like Egypt, India, Tibet, etc. I also aim to vist Eastern Europe soon. Recently, Lena posted a “Travel partner to E.Europe required” in this website and I responded immediately but was too late as the vacancy was already filled.

10 days @ 2.8K is a good price. If you think that I can be of further help, feel free to call me or email me. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip.

    Lily

  6. Interesting……………..? I too thot so until I saw the roller pin in her 1 hand and a baseball bat in the other………..

    1…….2………….3, change yr mind already?

  7. Hahaha, Ann, no competition lah.

If he really wants to cheong, tim will give him a hand & a rubber band…….the push & the propulsion, respectively, will send him vroooming to her in a blink.

(Andrew & Patrick, why do you both start decking the hall with bells ?? Not yet lah. Andrew, go back to mark yr toto numbers & Patrick, go re-do yr no capital biz plan).

Seriously, she does attract with her style & personality.

  8. Hi Michelle
