walk

Last sat we had our walk.I think this is the second walk. Charles was very careful and considerate in planning the route.  The meeting and starting point was kallang MRT and ended  at the DURIAN. Both points are accessible and easy to meet/locate. We took about 1 hr to complete the "jouney".  we walked at a very relax pace and more imptly, we have a very pleasant and wonderful group of walkers . Along the way we make small talks and share info on many things and experiences. These series  of walks is only the beginning of more  events . Come and join these walks and find your KAKIS to form more splinter group. More groups means more activities. Retirement in not to  Retire at HOME . Ideally there is an activity each day. Charles is a very good planner. He is very dertermine, helpful and considerate. The next walk  canbe a little further and  bigger group . At the end of the walk we can all sit down and "chat" and get to know each other better. See U there

Walking Route for March

March Walk will take us to a new place – Kallang Riverside park and Marina Promenade with water view all the way and plenty of trees to provide shade. If we are lucky we may get to view the ‘duck’ (amphibious tourist boat with wheels) at close range coming on shore.

Date – 11th March Saturday , 4.30pm. Meet at Kallang MRT station .

From there we take a short 5 mins walk to Kallang River park and continue into Marina Promenade, then walk all the way to the ‘Durian'(Esplanade Theatres). The total walk is about 3 miles and takes about 1hr 15 mins at normal walking speed. We take a 10 mins rest midway.

At our destination there are many food outlets including an open air hawker centre. Marina Bay is a beautiful and interesting place to watch people and sunset.

To go home there is a bus stop at the Durian, alternatively walk to City Hall MRT via underground shopping mall.

Interested , email cwee99@singnet.com.sg for route map.

SHC Feb gathering

Despite an earlier afternoon rain, we had a fun evening with SilverHairs exchanging ideas and getting to know one another better.  We started at 6pm, and at closing time, many were still eager to keep the evening going.  No topics for the evening.

Loads of chat about what to do during retirement, business, scrabbles, walks and cycling.  Here are the pictures of the evening.  https://silverhairsclub.com/SHC/SHC060209/

Sunset Walk at Macritchie

Hello SHCs.

We will commence our first walking activity on Sat 18th Feb at 4pm. The route chosen is intentionally kept easy to accomodate non regular walkers. You can invite any friend along.

We  will meet at Paddle Lodge, a canoeing station, about 100 metres from Macritchie bus stop. From meeting point, we will take the boardwalk skirting the water edge, walking ocassionally among the trees for about 40 minutes and return via the adjoining jogging track. The total time is about 1 hour 20 mins. There is a washroom with toilet facility nearby. Drinks from a vending machine is also available. Alternatively, we proceed to the hill top food kiosk fronting the reservoir.

Put on a pair of comfortable walking shoe, some sun block cream and bring along a sunshade cap, a pair of sunglasses, a water bottle and a foldable small umbrella or puncho ( in case it rains).

Those intending to join in the walk, please email me at cwee99@singnet.com.sg or sms me ( hp 98288980) for further details & map.

Hi Ladies/Gentlemen

New boys in the Club

I am new to this club and it seems that all of you are enjoying urself looking at all the posting in here.

Would like to wish all members of Silverhairs a Happy and Preperous Y2006 most of all stay healthy and happy.

With my pretty tight schedule I really hope to talk and meet up with all of you one day.

All the best for now and regards

Catherine Yeo – Profile

Yes I do agree with you that I am still pretty active (don’t forget I am still in my 40s  ahem!) You can say that I am making hay while the sun is still shining. All around, I have heard and come across people who have already passed on and the realisation of not knowing how long we are going to be on this earth has made me resolve to live life to the fullest.
Why do I want to join Silverhairs?  To make more friends I guess, to find people of the same interests. To give an example, I enjoy going for plays and concerts but have yet to find like-minded friends to do so with. What do I enjoy?  Dancing, plays & concerts, scrabble, walking etc… the list can go on but timing has to be right! haha
So if you would like me to be actively involved in SHC just tell me what I should do and send me an invitation for the next meeting.  Bye for now,

Christina Tan – Profile

Okay you see I have retired for quite sometimes and would like to consider doing some charity work, just that, I don’t where to start with. Besides, as I have to watch the share market all these years with my hard earned money invested there, that leaves not much
choice to stay home to monitor the share market.

Infact my family is very supportive for me to do charity work as my husband and our children are all working. I love children and would prefer to spend time with babies or small children in welfare homes.  If it is possible for you to make arrangement for me
to spend half a day with the welfare children.  I do drive and it will not be much a problem when transport is concerned, however, I am very poor with road direction as I am often driven by my husband.

Chan C C – Profile

Actually, my main interest in joining the SHC is to make more friends and at the same time, maybe some of the SHC members could assist me in a getting a job since quitting my job on April 2005 due to an injury to my knee. Nothing to feel shame of – looking for a job. Or maybe Mr Terence or any of the members could assist. Staying at home do nothing is a waste of real time and life. Though, I am 58 and believe that I still have the required energy for job purposes as I am that type of person that never say "die".

In real terms, I have very few friends as all along, during my working life is work and study part-time whenever time permits as I do not really have the time to mix around.

Teck Koon – Profile

Something about myself, well I was to "retired" from service Dec 2005 after reaching 62, compulsory retirement.  But our management was kind enough to offer me a post retirement employment on a yearly contract basis.  Partly due to the need to continue having an income, I agreed to continue working.Hence, I could not have time to be actively involved at the present time with the SHC.

What am I looking for ?  Basically, I am an outgoing person who enjoys the company of friends & colleagues – be it just sitting around talking, sharing and having a drink or social outing or even for walks or jogging.  I also like to socialised in group gatherings & travelling.

I sincerly hoped I ccan meet up with the SHC members including yourself in February 2006 if the meeting can be after the 6th of Feb. (I will in China from 27/1-5/2/06).

Grace Lim – Profile

Actually I’m a recently retired school principal and am just enjoying unwinding. I guess making new friends, who have interests like dancing, travelling, even just meeting to chit chat are what I think SHC should be
about and not so much about food as I’m quite concerned about eating healthily.  Won’t be able to make it this Feb 13 as I’m going Down Under until May.  Hope to meet up with SHCs later in the year.

Olympics renamed SHC Games Day

On 16 Jan 2006, we held a brainstorming session. Headed by Patrick Yeo.  The brainstorm team consists of Ronald Lee, Evelyn Tan, Shirley Wong, Margaret Lee, Terence Seah, Elsie Ho, Charles Wee.  Instead of calling SHC Olympics, the group decided we shall now call the activity the SHC Games Day.

Activities to start with include scrabbles, mahjong, monopoly, walking, bowling.

SHC will send out an invitation to find out who would participate in the different activity groups.  Closing date – end Feb 2006.

Date: Sunday, 17 Sept 2006.

Walk

The weather is not friendly for walking this month and last. We have to set a date otherwise we will still be waiting. I propose 12.2  Kentridge and sugei buloh have been proposed. we start off with kentridge and in March we can go to Sugei buloh.

My proposal

12 feb Sunday

time 10 am or  2pm

After the walk we can have a little "picnic" as suggested.

Its your call

Thank You

Vincent Khoo initiates Thailand orientation trip

A brainstorm meeting was held on Wed 11 Jan 2006 at Atrium Orchard, Dhoby Ghout MRT. Present:  Evelyn, Ann, Vincent Khoo, Ronald Lee, KC Lau and Terence.  Patrick Ang and Richard Kwok participated briefly.

The group looked at short term stays, with a target of SGD 500 – 600 per month, covering shared rental and food. Other topics include retirement village, comparing with retirement homes in Singapore at SGD 1,000 per month. Living costs were discussed, and while it sounded cheaper to stay for short periods, there was general agreement that most will consider Singapore their real home.

There was strong interest to organise short "no frills" travel to see and understand Thailand’s culture and opportunities.  Other interests include organising meetings with International hospitals.

Vincent takes the lead, and a Thailand trip "No fills" has been organised.  The date and time is set for March 21, 2006, Tuesday 12 noon to March 27, 2006, Monday 12 noon.  SilverHairs to organise their own air tickets.

Only 8 persons can join this program.  To take part, simply add your name, by putting a comment to this posting.  Based on first come basis.
