Along the way at Ceylon Road we will view our late President Nathan’s house.

Our walk ends at Marine Parade Centre .  Buses 134, 135 and 43 to Paya Lebar mrt Interchange are available at the bus stop just nearby.

  1. For your own safety, come in comfortable footwear, no slippers/sandals.
  2. Protect oneself with sun screen, sunglasses, caps, mosquito repellant.
  3. Bring a disposable raincoat (hope for good weather)

Monthly walk: SOUTHERN WATERFRONT

Date : 12th November 2016, Saturday

Time : 4.30pm SHARP

Duration: approx 2hours

Meeting Place: Labrador MRT Station(CC27) – Take escalator up to ground level.
(no facilities during walk, till probably 1.5hrs later).

ECs: Veronica Wong with Henry See.
Note: Henry See, one of our regular walkers, suggest to do this route, so he will
assist to co-lead.

It was 3 years ago that we had transversed along the coastline on a man-made
boardwalk. The creek is a natural oasis of mangrove, mudflats, lush and green foliage.

Linger for a moment along the coastal front, be soothed, be lulled by
the wonders of nature and revel in this scenic view of vast sea and greenery.
At the bay feast your eyes on a cluster of yachts and perhaps at sundown,
the beautiful sunset!

Note:
1) For your own safety, come in comfortable footwear, no slippers/sandals.
2) Protect oneself with sun screen, sunglasses, caps, mosquito repellant
3) Bring a disposable raincoat (though we pray for good weather)

We shall end our walk at HarbourFront.

Monthly walk: a Forest trail

Date: 3rd September 2016, Saturday

Time: 4.15pm SHARP

Duration: approx 2hours

Meeting Place: Marymount MRT, Passenger Service/Control Station (use the facility here, else hold till we reach the end of walk).

ECs: Alice Seah and ChristinA Chan

Note: Be punctual! from Marymount we will commute by bus to the “Start point”
and also need to be out of the forest before dark.

We will take an unpaved, gravel trail (dirt track) that we, the walk team have never embarked on getting into MacRitchie Reservoir.
Trail is shady due to the towering trees and rather thick foliage.
Terrain is easy to moderate.
Expect occasional very gradual uphill slopes and downhilling that might give your calf muscle a good stretch at the end of the walk.

One might tread on small ditches, so do not come in a new pair of shoes or your Sunday best.

Recommended:
Covered walking shoes, hand-held or battery operated fan, an umbrella instead of raincoat as can be humid in the forest of trees; insect repellent and drinking water.

We shall end our walk at the Mushroom café. Last order for dinner is 8.30pm.

the Walk Team: Charles Wee, Veronica Wong, Mary Tan, Serene Low, Alice Seah,
Azhari Cuttilan and I, ChristinA Chan.

Retiree Club (East)

retirement2  retired1  retired2

Calling all retirees in the East

I have formed a retiree club in the Kembangan area wherein active retirees can:

  • gather for coffee chats in the nearby coffee shops/joints in the east
  • makan in the hawker centres/markets in Bedok, Paya Lebar and Tampines in the east
  • morning walks at 5.30 am or late evening walks at 6.30 pm when it’s not too hot
  • introduction to ukulele fun
  • yak yak on anything (ranging from current affairs, in-laws, grown-up kids to anything under the sun)
  • help and seeking advice from one another
  • cycling in the parks (I need a trike or tandem rider though)
  • ….. and so on…. the list is by no means exhaustive

The 24-hour sarabat stall at Jalan Lapang (Kembangan) may be a good venue to be considered.  It’s just a stone’s throw from the Kembangan mrt station.  Those staying in this area may be familiar with this eating place.  It’s rustic, nostalgic and gives the ambience of Singapore in the early 60s or a typical Malaysian sarabat stall of today.

These are only ideas on the drawing board and can be finetuned as we gather momentum.  A chatline has been set up for those who have indicated interest so as  to keep everyone in the loop on activities or good sharings.  As we’re retirees, we’ll keep to thrifty thrills/fun…. no lavish spending.

So far, some 20 of my friends (mostly shc) have already indicated their interest in joining this retiree club as and when they’re free.  It’s good to form friendships now before it’s too late.  One’s spouse may not be with you forever and depression may set in (if you’re too close or dependent on your beloved) and especially when you’re already facing the empty nest syndrome.  We must rely on ourselves for our own well-being and happiness.  There’s a saying:

“No one is born happy but every one is born with the Ability to create HAPPINESS”.

Just leave a message here or apps me (if you have my hp number) if you are interested in joining the Retiree Club (East). A very important requirement is no quarrelling, hitting below the belt  or gossips on my chatline (taboos for the retiree club).   We want everyone to be happy and get along well.  Any recalcitrant member will be deleted from my chatline   :-)

Thank you.

Warmest regards,

Gabriella

Those Interested:

  2. Just leave your name on this forum page or apps me …. tks

MONTHLY WALK – KALLANG PARK CONNECTOR BISHAN TO POTONG PASIR

Meeting Place: Bishan MRT Exit A, wait nearby Pastamania

Time: meet by 4.30pm sharp

Duration:  about 1½ hours

ECs for this walk :  Veronica Wong and Mary Tan

Take a walk down memory lane!  The route a straight leisurely walk is easy and basically on level ground.   For some stretches, due to construction works, we go on the pavement for just a bit.    It takes you through mature residential estates in Bishan and Potong Pasir meaning “cut sand” in Malay.     Spend some time admiring the scenery and the bridges.   At mid walk, we give time to enjoy obstacles to revive younger days memories and expend your energy.  Also an opportunity for walkists for socializing .  Continue to catch up on your “chit chat” at dinner.   Many choices for dinner at Potong Pasir.

Bring water, cap, umbrella and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Monthly walk: to the ROCKET, we go!

This is an EC activity. Bring your adult friends who are over 45!

Date: Saturday, 5 March 2016
Time: 4.30 pm sharp
Meeting Point: Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange – Bus 138 Boarding queue
Duration: Approx. 2 hrs
ECs : Azhari Cuttilan and ChristinA Chan

Here is the 1st walk for the Year 2016… Be like 20 feel like 16!        :D

Good time to walk off the loaded extras during the festive seasons.

We will walk to one of the less visited places: The “Rocket” at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park.
This “futuristic space age rocket” was built and completed in Seletar in 1969 – the
same year astronauts from the Apollo 11 space flight landed on the moon.

Pleasant & easy walk to the Rocket which overlooks lush nature.
Those with stronger legs & knees can go up the Tower. The view is breathtaking.
On the way back, if enough time we will visit Springleaf Nature Park & stroll along the newly built Springleaf park connector.
Surely, will meet several of this Lunar zodiac “representative” along the way.    Hehe…

There are many Makan places around Spring Leaf area. We can have dinner there
or take the bus back to AMK.
We shall decide at the end of the walk.

Bring water bottle, caps, umbrella and camera. Do wear comfortable walking shoes.

Look forward to your early registration!        :D  :D

This is a re-post. It serves as a reminder for those who signed up and also for those who may have missed this post. I am also looking for a “younger” member to take over this annual event which I feel is very meaningful. All we ask for is just “give something back” once a year after taking so much from activities in the forum site. This will be my last such EC Christmas Walk event in this forum and make a graceful exit.

Date: 18th Dec 2015 (Friday evening)
Time: 6.30PM to 9.30PM
Meeting Place and Start Point: Tanglin Mall Food Court (junction of Orchard Road & Grange Road). End Point will be at Somerset or Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station.

Program:
1) Dinner before chat: 6.30PM to 7.30PM: for those who can come early, we can have a dinner together in the food court and getting to know each other better.
2) Fellowship: 7.30PM to 8.30PM: Chat at Mall (free n easy – form your own small group on per table basis). Share what you have experienced this year, your reflections, what you can do better, etc. [Always remember a quote from the late George Carlin on Ageing. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.]
3) Start walking: 8.30PM to 9.30PM: Start walking and picture taking.

You can use your smartphone or camera to take some pictures.

Size of Gathering: in order not to make ourselves too obvious and attract unwanted attention, registration will close when 20 are reached.

Christmas Walk (18-12-2015 – Friday)

It is the time of the year again where we will say goodbye to the Year (2015) and welcoming the New Year (2016). Some of you may be in the middle of a tour overseas having quality time with friends or with family members and others may have no plan this year.

At our twilight (or silver hairs) years, we do not know when we will not be able to or not able to do what we can do best. So, it is timely to count our blessing year by year by meeting with like-minded people to cherish our fellowship and having a simple “Christmas” food court dinner together.

As with any other years, this is a good time and opportunity to stroll, after dinner, along Orchard Road and try your night photography skills with your smartphone and/or camera. For those interested, please see details below.

Date: 18th Dec 2015 (Friday evening)
Time: 6.30PM to 9.30PM

Monthly walk: 11October – Fort Canning Park

Posted on behalf of Alice.

Date : Saturday, 11 October 2014
Time : 4.00 pm
Nearest MRT : Dhoby Ghaut station
Meeting Place: Park Mall, main entrance
Duration: 2 hrs
ECs : Alice Seah and Judy Lim

This month we will be walking in Fort Canning Park. Before November 1981
it was named Fort Canning Hill or “Forbidden Hill” in Malay. Since the
14th century many Singapore rulers and colonial masters have lived here,
including Sir Stamford Raffles. It was an important military base during
World War II.

Fort Canning Park is undulating and about 60 metres high. Remnants and
relics of bygone eras are around. There’s a Spice Garden, previously
Singapore’s first experimental and botanic garden. The tranquil ambience
together with diverse flora and fauna makes the walk interesting. You will
appreciate the beautiful sculptures completed by various artists.
Many cultural and recreational activities are held here.

Note: Bring water, caps, umbrella and wear comfortable walking shoes.
