Jan 2007 gathering (Pot Luck registration)

The Pot-luck is confirmed for Sat, 13 Jan, 2007.

  • Venue:  On the beach, behind Bicycle Rental, 20 metres from MacDonald, East Coast.
  • 3.00 pm – For the early birds, meeting at MacDonald.
  • 4.30 pm – Start getting to know new friends
  • 5.45 pm – Food time commences
  • 7.30 pm – Likely ending time

What is most exciting about this event is the venue will be the terminating point of the cycling and walking groups.  On this day, the cycling and the walking activities will proceed with the usual activities.

For those bringing food, Yew Kwong, Terence and other SilverHairs will be there are 3pm.  Do not bring too much food, say for about 10 persons.

For those who are not cycling or walking, SilverHairs can meet at the Pot Luck venue.  Bring something to sit on so that you can sit on the grass or sand and chat.  Plenty of strong winds, maybe some rain.  It would be nice if you put on your beach wear or swimming gear.  Stay comfortable, as there are no seats.

Transport may be difficult for some, but do try to make arrangements among yourselves.

Cooking Demo & Handicraft Group

I love to crotchet, make 3-dimensional origami swans, baskets, trays, jewellery-sets with beads & crystals & prepare to teach.

It will be good to have cooking demo in member’s home only for those non-working retired.

I am interested to teach handicraft or organise making of handicrafts to donate to old folks home for sale.

Do you make nice cakes and bread?

If there is one person who likes bread, it’s got to be me.  I love croissants and bagels, the harder the better.  So, I go to the bookshop and look for baking books.  But, then I have no time to bake cakes, and I dont know what yeast looks like.  Also, no bread-making machine at home.  So, got to content with the local deli.

But, then there are SilverHairs out there who are good at making bread and cakes; maybe for own families or small groups of friends, maybe one-in-a-while.  If making cakes and bread is your hobby or passion, why not let everybody know.  Drop your name here.  Tell us what have done.  How much would it cost?

I would definitely ask you to make some cakes or bread for me.  Pay for it, of course.  If you are not too far from my home.  I am sure I will not be the only one interested in your cakes and bread.  There are others among us, who would like to try and get your cakes or bread too.

Dont forget the Christmas log cakes and the Chinese New Year goodies for next year.

Pot luck – an idea

Last week, I was up in the mountains of Mae Hong Son, Thailand.  As usual, when the air is fresh and the thoughts are clear, the brains get to work better.

Ann Giri, Oi Cheng and myself came up with an idea of a regular potluck session.  SHC invites SilverHairs together and each of us bring along a little specialty.  We haven’t thought of a place, nor have we considered what kind of food.  But, we thought we throw the idea to everybody first.

Do you like the idea?  What’s your suggestion to take this idea further? What can you bring along, without buying anything from the local coffee shop?  Any place you have in mind?

I think what counts is the meeting of friends.  We should keep the idea simple.

Lily Wong – Profile

I am a Singaporean of age 54. I am still working but may be retiring soon.  Agree that we should make more friends, make our lives more meaningful and enjoy our silver age.

My interest is in cooking, baking, hiking and travelling. I have recently completed a certificate baking course at Baking Industry Training Centre and may be able to contribute in this area.
