Hi, my name is Vinent Khoo, and I was introduced to SilverHairsClub a few years ago.  I live in Thailand for the last 20 years.  My background is in the  industrial spare parts business, and familiar with the industrial estates in Mattaput, Rayong and Bangpakong.

I had retired since 5 years ago.  Today, I live a relaxing life, on what I originally targetted; and that is SGD $500 per month.  My residence is a one room condo on Rachachadapisek Road, Bangkok.   To me, food is easily available at the 3 supermarkets nearly.  Well, as long as one has money, one can get almost all kinds of goods and services.

I shall continue to stay here in Bangkok, as long as I am fit.  Give me a call when you are in Bangkok.  Can bring you around, as long as you cover my food and transport.  My tel/SMS is +6681 555-9950.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Andrew and I will be 50 by the end of the year. I am a Hougang Nan , residing near the Kovan MRT with my wife and 19 yr old daughter . I am still working fulltime in a Japanese(MNC) Regional office .

Two weeks ago I stumbled onto this site and was impressed alot to sign up as a member. I love music and are interested in anything related to the 1950s era. Love a Elvis number anytime….

Travelling is another interest and we try to put in a holiday at least once a year, spending some quality time to ourselves….away from the office and school.

I am not a physical activity kind of guy and the only exercise I try to do is occasionally put in abit of walking in the evening at Ponggol Park. I used to do it 3-4 times a week, but lately been abit lazy and put them off with some silly excuses.

Anyway, I am looking forward to participating in some of the SHC activities. Cheers !!

I m Benny, 49. Introduce to SHC by my friend Sue.

Just an ordinary guy living next door, slim build and probably not eye-catching.

Love sports, like soccer and racket games such as badminton but as one mature in age, tend to focus more on less energetic games and go on track instead…jogging.

Feel free to write to me n comment. Look forward to get to know each one of u and hopefully in the days ahead develop a bond and friendship.

Cheers.

Have a great weekend.

Hi SHC friends

Both my husband and I have just joined the club and we hope to participate in some of your many interesting activities.

We have two grown up children, one working and the other still pursuing tertiary education in Melbourne. Having had worked in the hectic corporate world for a few decades, I have recently decided to call it a day to spend quality time with the family and also to be kind to myself, have fun and enjoy life a little bit (instead of work, work & work)! Thus I would certainly look forward to making more friends and have a more fulfilling life! May I wish all of you good health and happiness!

Cheers

I just join and Terence suggest I put in my profile.

I am 61 years old. My hairs are totally silver. Had a heart attack 2 years ago, so now anxious to enjoy life more before the next attack. Now retired and keep busy with trying to stay happy, healthy and alive in this order of importance.

I love outdoor activities. Use to do diving, sailing, played racket games, tracking and jog. Now not allowed to jog but the doctors didn’t say anything about cycling.  Still plays golf weekly and eat myself silly after each game. Do regular Chi Kong exercise in the hope of keeping myself healthy and alive. Love to go exortic places and just watch people. I am very quiet in a large crowd unless giving a speech.

The problem is that my golf kakis are young and working. My older friends are also still working hard to accummulate money they don’t need. I don’t like to go holidays during weekends and public holidays, jostling with other Singaporeans.

Maybe I can meet some ‘young’ people and do things like driving into little towns in Thailand and Cambodia.

Hello to ALL, I’m Betty. Got to know this club through my friend Norhayati. She became a member last week and persuaded me to join as well. And I told myself, "Why not?" since most of the activities are those that I enjoy doing too.  I love travelling, eating, learning new skills, helping others and occasionally do some shooting (archery).  My outdoor activities are limited by my physical impairment. You see I was one of the victim of the polio epidemic in Singapore during 50/60.

Still, I am a cheerful person who love to meet and make new friends and I think SilverHairsClub is the place.

Norhayati A Aziz – Profile

Hi folks. My name is Nur, short for Norhayati. I came across SHC website by chance on 7th April 2008 and decided to join the following day, after reading the many activities organised by the club. I take this opportunity too, to thank Terence for his warm welcome.

I’m working in a senior citizens’ home (so, anybody who wants to chope a bed can call me, just kidding emoticon). I’m not a nurse, just working in the HR office.

I used to enjoy reading (thrillers, legal, criminal and of course romantic love stories) but after being ‘diagnosed’ as being long-sighted several years ago, I began to cut down on my leisure reading, as I tend to get headache if I put on my reading glasses for too long. Now, I’ve switched to watching Korean series, travelogue and documentaries on television during my free time.

I used to travel with friends too but after one by one they got married, I didn’t want to be a lamppost and stopped traveling with them.

I’m hoping that by joining SHC, I would be able to make and meet new friends and to join in some of the activities. I may not be able to attend all the activities though, as I’m almost the main caregiver to my 70plus mum (being the only unmarried sibling emoticon).

Another thing I must confess to. I’m one of those hopeless persons with VERY poor sense of direction. If the activity is being held in Tampines, don’t be surprised if I end up in Clementi!! Don’t be surprised too if you find a foreigner in Singapore probably knows Singapore better than I do. emoticon

So, please bear with me OK if I need detailed directions of how to reach a certain destination for the activities.

My other interests include morning walks on Sundays (I work alternate half day on Saturdays). Want to learn to play badminton like a pro. Right now, I can anyhow hit the shuttle. My 10-year-old niece can play better.

So, at the next activity, if you see a tudong-wearing lady, that would be me. I’m looking forward to meet the other members and  join in the activities organized by SHC.

Hi Hi All

I came to know of this club only a few weeks ago, thru a friend.  After hearing and reading all about your activities, I have decided to join and sign up for the cycling trip to Penggerang on April 12.

It really took me quite a while to figure out how to sign up for the trip.  Thanks to Terence for his guidance.

I am more of a outdoor person though sometimes love to laze around in the house (hei hei emoticon). I am still working full time in a land surveying firm.

My interests are cycling(not pro), walks, travelling cum trekking (moderate ok, strenuous no no) and badminton. So badminton kakis out there, when will be the next session, hope to meet up with you all and also meeting up with the rest, SHCians.

Cheers…..

Hi

Actually heard of the SHC sometime ago but only realise how active it is recently.  Therefore am joining to have more interactions with my peers and to enjoy an impending retirement (hopefully not too long in the future) with the various activites the Club has.

Currently working in a consumer company selling photographic products, besides swimming, power walks, cycling, reading and travelling, I also play mahjong, scrabble and am taking up bridge lessons.  Am also a social, 9-hole golfer, playing aimlessly for years but more for some social interaction, and exercise and as an added activity for overseas trips rather than serious golf.   Can see many more things which I would like to do but like any working adult, time is always a deterrent.

Anyway am looking very much forward to my first activity with the Club, ie cycling to Penggerang on 12 April.  See you all.

Hi everyone

I came across this site as I was surfing for clubs or whatever you want to call it for those over 45 and found Silver Hair.

Am turning 50 this year and in my 2nd phase of life. Loves my coffee, reading, walking, learning to dance and knit now. Next on my To Do list – dress making – still on my To Do List.

Still working full time and mother of 2 growing up children.

Hope to get to have coffee gatherings soon

Hi,

I am a new member. Will be turning 52 soon. Currently still teaching full time. Apart from reading, I love animals and walking. In fact, I have 2 beautiful dogs – a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian – and I can wax lyrical about them so I better not start. I hope I can find time to join in one or two activities this year. Hope all of you will have a great year ahead.

Hi all SHCians

I came to know the club thru  the eNN newsletter and have been enjoying reading the interesting activities organised by the club. Cheers.

I am Alicia who loves the sun and that is why I look forward to my weekends doing either one of these activities like  roller-blading (not-pro), cycling, nature walking, swimming, trekking (if got kakis) etc etc. I also enjoy playing scrabble and practising yoga.

I am presently still working full time in a healthcare industry and hope to be able to work for the next ten years to come (official retirement age – 62)

Hope to see you all on the 17/1/08 meeting.

I had come across SHC quite some time ago following the article about it in the newspapers but in the hurly burly world of work (still actively working and hope never to retire) it was relegated into the black hole of the mind with all the other KIV items. Recently I was talking to a friend, Sophia Lim, and she reignited my interest and thus signed up.

Last year I should have been able to withdraw on my CPF account but it was not to be under the new regulations. That’s how old I am.

Also, I’m bi. Bi-location that is – living both in Singapore and Bangkok. The nature of my work involves the running of two offices of which I try to spend equal time on. Thus in a typical month, I’m two weeks in Bangkok and two weeks back in Singapore.

Outside of work I’m generally very outdoorsy – sailing and scuba diving, play bad golf (my golfing motto : I play bad golf for a good time!) and simple activities like jogging, walking and swimming. I run with the Hash House Harriers but it’s never considered as a serious running group. I love travelling too but never on package tours preferring to be a free and independent traveller even if it means getting lost every now and then.

That’s me in a nutshell.

Good Day to all!

I’m a new entrant to the club, having snooped around the SilverHairsClub site on and off for a couple of months last year.  Found the stuff put up and exchange between members interesting.  Decided to do something out of my comfort zone for 2008 by joining the club.

Am in transitions of sorts and planning for Halftime journey, hoping to reclaim some time and life.  Currently in full-time employment and fortunate to enjoy paid job, tutoring dyslexic kids and training others to support dyslexics.

I have similar hobbies and interests with most people, and willing to try something new to learn, to grow.

Food for thought from my current reading:

"To be human we must engage life — we must make decisions, build relationships, create beauty and give ourselves."  Donald W McCullough

Best wishes for a Blessed New Year of opportunities to live, laugh, learn and love,

Hello to everyone

My name is Patricia Lim and I have just joined SilverHairs Club.  It is an interesting name "SilverHairs" as it reflects that most of our hairs are of this color – only now we can resort to modern ways to darken our hairs! I came across SilverHairs Club by way of eNN.

Any way to introduce myself – I am still working full time and am in no hurry to retire as yet though might be tempted to if I won a $2 million big sweep! I do dragonboating, pilates and am interested in bowling, outdoor activities and health talks.

I hope I will be able to join in some of the activities.

Ron Choo (Melbourne) – Profile

Pursuant to Rule 705, Section 4b of the SilverHairsClub, I, Ron-Oz (so that other silver-haired Rons may not be subrogated to me), currently domiciled in Melbourne, Australia, having been duly admitted to SHC, do hereby voluntarily submit for the perusal of all and sundry with SHC membership my curriculum vitae.

No, I’m not a legal eagle, just a frustrated writer wannabe. I am in fact a quitter – quit Singapore at the tender age of 19, arrived in The Lucky Country and shortly after decided to call it home. Wow, have I actually lived here for almost 40 years? I do amaze myself sometimes! During that time, I’ve lived and worked in three capital cities (Perth 12 years, Canberra 4 years, Melbourne since 1990), several provincial towns and cities in between including a couple of places that seemed like the end of the world.

Working in the media has given me the opportunity to see the length and breadth of this vast continent and I doubt if I can see it all before I reach my use-by date.

Retirement is not yet in my vocabulary because (a) I love my job, (b) need to finance my daughter at university for another four years, and (c) my son will continue to sponge off the old man until such time as he decides to give up on his dream of becoming a heavy metal rock star and finds himself a real job.

To all the single parents among you, I belong in your ranks because my wife was afflicted with post-natal depression shortly after my son was born. Her illness has deteriorated over the years and she is now certified as schizophrenic.

But hey, the world keeps turning and life must go on. So I try to enjoy as much as I can of the many things that give me pleasure – reading, writing, films, music, swimming, cooking and most sports (as a spectator). I spend much of each winter following my football (Aussie Rules) team around the country.

Don’t know where or when we’ll meet, but meanwhile let’s just enjoy this cyber intercourse that modern technology has afforded us.

Frank Kaw – Profile

Greetings To All SHC Members!

My name is Frank Kaw, a Geminian and new member.

A senior citizen and semi-retired business consultant, I was very much involved in my younger days in turnkey projects such as  setting up of pre-schools and English language centres notably in the fast moving market of China and India besides Vietnam and Myanmar, and co-ordinating bilateral trade between East and West with a trading base in Singapore. It was a satisfying and self-fulfilling 30-year trading and consulting career ever undertaken. I shall be pleased to share my business knowledge and experiences with members of SHC.

After completing my hig school education, I took up a temporary teaching position but left the profession after a year of service to join an international European company which offered me further studies and training in business administration/management in England, France and Japan. The vast expertise acquired in a MNC provided me a solid background and base  in handling and accompishing  all tasks.  Being an ex-member of Dale Carnegie’s Public Speaking Institute,  and recipient of Queen Elizabeth II Scouting Award also helped in my business dealings and speaking engagements.

A born Methodist, I also helped in restructuring and operating of church and kindergarten’s administration and finance management in Singapore and Malaysia.

Presently,  I while away most of my retiring time in a small but cosy European social club in Singapore besides engaging in "pass time" share trading, and enjoying occasional  social and business gatherings, and "teh tarik" sessions with friends and business associates. I shall be glad to meet members and participate in similar or other activities at SHC.

Finally, I wish to thank Terence Seah for giving me the opportunity to post my profile in this website, and also Dennis Har  for introducing me to SHC, a hub of social and business activities for all interacting seniors with or without silver hairs.

I wish SHC continuous growth and success in the years ahead.

My pleasure to have attended the Pasir Ris Pot Luck with Daniel Kang…btw I did ‘contribute my share’ of the mee siam but he was the ‘chef coutre’! Vive la daniel and mee siam!Enjoyed all your company esp the laughter, food and songs…great camaraderie and hope to meet you all again. Before I sign off, thanks to Terence for the ‘so-so’ pics…caught at inopportune moments…could look better! Au revoir everyone.

Roland HH Tong – Profile

Hi! I’m Roland and though I joined the SHC in 2005, I’ve not been able to participate in the activities due to clashes with my numerous other activities. However, last month I joined the "Dance Group" thinking that it was a social activity but to my surprise it turned out to be "a social dance course"! Anyway, the group of people were so pleasant and friendly that I decided to join them and even enrol a new member as well!

My resume! I’m a retired school teacher, old in age but still "young at heart"! I’m gregarious by nature and enjoy all kinds of outdoor and indoor activities. I play tennis, table tennis, badminton, billiard, (hockey, basketball and soccer in my younger days), chess, scrabble, etc. My hobbies are photography, philately and numismatics. However, tennis is my forte as I’ve represented both Malaysia and Singapore although I played State Soccer as a school boy. I love dancing although my bones are now beginning to "creak"! I had to learn dancing while studying in UK during the "ragging period" and went often to the Ballrooms there.

I’m currently busy with part-time tuition in Maths and Science to keep my brains working and to earn some income to maintain my car (It’s NOT easy maintaining a car in Singapore!)

Emily Sim – Profile

Hi, my name is Emily.  I’ve been living in England for the last 30+ years however, ever since I discovered your wedsite a year ago, I’ve been a regular browser.  I valued the site as it is a very good way of keeping in touch and knowing what my compempories are doing at home.

I come home regular every year for the last 10 years as my children are now independent.  This is “me” time now and I’m enjoying every minute of it.  I’m semi retired, and will be retiring proper in March 2008.  My profession was a “Clinical Auditor”,  I think it is referred as “QA” in S’pore.

While I’m not able to take part in your activities, believe me I take a very keen interest in what’s going on.  I read a lot, my other hobbies are line dancing, gardening, visiting historic places cooking and entertaining.  For me  these activities are all governed by the weather.  In summer I’m outdoor making use of every minute of the sunshine while in winter I practically go into hibernation, it is a time that I would do nothing but curled up by the fireside and surf the net or read.

Being based in UK, I believe I have a lt to offer in so far travelling/holidaying in UK, culture exchange ect.,  I’m looking forward to attend some of the activites when I get back in 2008 and  have some new friends.
