Calling all dance enthusiasts.. music lovers… or those who just want to hang out on a Friday night…
July’s Dance Nite will be at Union Square – Ntuc Club – Amara Hotel.
This club has a cuban band playing mostly latin music like merengue, salsa, bachata, samba, rumba, cha cha. Band start from 9.30 pm. All the way till the wee hours of 2.30am!
For the early birds, the DJ will spin music to your request, as early as 7pm. So if you want to do your style of dancing, come by at 7pm.
Drinks at 40% discount before 9 pm for ntuc members and after 9 pm 20% discount.
This is a very cosy place, nice ambience and a good size dance floor.
There are many buses plying along Tanjong Pagar road, and the nearest MRT station is Tanjong Pagar Station, just a few minutes stroll away.

Cabaret Night 2013 committee met for the first time last Sat, 29 Jun 2013 at Orchard Central. Leading most of the work to make this event a success and as entertaining as possible for ever guest is Mega Abdullah. He pieced together Jeffrey Gan who will provide all the live music (almost more tha 4 hours of live music) during the opening event. And he has also added the local DJ who would be playing all the dance music and memorable songs to keep us dreamy, nostalgic and romantic. Thank you Mega, we would not be able to coordinate all these work without your planning and running around. Well done, considering this is mainly a Hokkien/Mandarin Cabaret.
There is another group who has been working more than just hard. And these are the singers. If you know me, I cannot sing, neither can I dance. I cannot hear the difference between tempo and a tune. But, there is a very capable lady who has made this possible, and she has come forward to accept the role of recruiting the singers, putting them through practice sessions and sequencing the songs. I dare not try to figure out what are all the pains, criticisms and arguments she has faced so far, with the group and committee. She is Judy Lim. She is fluent with Hokkien and Mandarin songs. Besides, Judy, we also have Janet Chan who loves singing, and helps Judy out with the Cantonese and Mandarin segments. HI Tian Soo and Lai Fong, our two co-owners of this refurbished Cabaret, these are the two ladies who have started work way more than two months ago.
Let’s also bring in our stage managers – Pat Oei and Lyndy Chua.
Now, let’s look at our line up of Singers. Many of the singers will be flying in from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo to bring us an evening of good fun and sheer music delight. Let’s bring them in. Please give them our applause for coming on stage.

In reality, nothing has been decided yet. It’s a thought. But,. if you know me, and I bring up the topic, it is likely 51% a yes, Let’s do it. I am opening for discussion on this forum, any questions, ideas, suggestions or considerations for this event. We will take two months, and close discussions and major decisions on 31 Aug 2013. Let’s go.

Due to the smog our MORNING WALK for this Friday 28th June is postponed to Friday 26 July. Hopefully the haze will give way to pristine air for us by then!

There are 6 table tennis tables in CSH. I’ve paid for booking (senior rate $1.10 for an hour) Table 5. Usually seniors will play at 2 tables for free from 7.00am to 9.00am. Thereafter most tables are booked by trainers to train kids. Just watch the kids! They’re fantastic! I picked up some tips from them as they are being coached by professional trainers.

For the next three monthly (2-hourly sessions) ITIG meetings @ Leng Kee Community Club (July/Aug/Sept), we will show you how to create a Karaoke Song of your choice. You need to have the following:
1) A laptop with Microsoft Office installed.
2) About 30-35 images/pictures. It can be your tour/family photos, etc.
3) A song file (English/Chinese) of your choice in wav format (around 3 minutes).
4) Song lyrics.
5) A thumb drive (> 2 GB)
6) For those who do not have a laptop, you can group together to share. You find your own partners
For those who are interested, but do not have or do not know how to meet the above (1 to 4) requirements, you can come to Marina Centre (after our photo walk) to a briefing discussion. For Requirement 2, you can meet it if you join us for the photo walk starting at 3.30PM from Raffles Place MRT.

Generally, it is an event that we have thought of to generate more interest among the men, for them to talk their own things. The Men’s Night will be held on a weekday. In all likelihood, we’ll not plan for food or drinks. The men will buy their own drinks and pay for the drinks as they are served. This is to avoid complications of bill splitting. Let’s make this a habit and procedure.

This walk route is relatively flat terrains. Our route will take us past the Kampong Buangkok the last kampong in Singapore.
Mid-way we will come to the Sengkang Riverside Park. Fruit trees of various types (such as starfruits, bananas, pineapple plants, lychee, mango, pomelo) were planted in the park. Perhaps, we could catch a glimpse of the Fruit of the Month.
Look out for Singapore’s largest man-made wetland, Sengkang Floating Island. Our walk ends at the Sengkang Sports Complex.

For the month of June, we will have a photo field trip; we will start from Raffles Place MRT and walk along Marina Bay to the Merlion Park. Then we cross over to Queen Elizabeth Walk and walk along the Esplanade Park. The walk will end at Marina Center Food Court (The Gallerie). We will meet at Raffles Place MRT on the date and time stated below. Come and share with us your photo-taking skills.
For those interested in IT, you can continue to make a karaoke song from the pictures taken together with a song file. Guidance will be provided in subsequent ITIG gathering.

The Badminton Kakis at Bukit Gombak celebrated its first anniversary in April.
Members come and go – but we have a group of 10-plus regulars and irregulars, coming from all over Singapore.
We welcome everyone to the weekly session – pro or beginner.
I’d not be posting the weekly session unless special activities are organised. [such as lunch at Bollywood – by EO Mr. Johnny Pow, .. :)]

I have a story to tell. Can’t resist sharing with you as I felt so happy for this man, and yet cannot imagine what this man and woman have to go through.
I just arrived at T2 today. Was so thirsty that I decided to have a bubble tea outside belt 35. After ordering my favourite Al isan Tea, without sugar, and enjoying the pearls, I realised that there was this 50+ man standing in front of me, carrying a bouquet of flowers. He was neatly dressed long sleeved and alone, pacing up and down the glass panels, peering at Belt 35 for someone he had been waiting for. A man carrying flowers, quite a rare site in Singapore? I guessed he was waiting for a lady.
10 mins later, he was joined by another men, slightly older and a lady, about 40 years old. They too joined the first man, looking out for the same person. After a while, I realised they were waiting for a lady, whom they likely know before, and probably it’s a first time for her, coming into Singapore. From the conversation, loud enough, they had been waiting for an hour. I could feel the second man was already annoyed and he said that she may have been stopped by immigration or customs, after all, it was her first time. The first man obviously was not listening to the second man and the lady. He persisted to look closer at the people around the belt.
Another 30 mins passed. The second man and the lady, whom I suspect is the wife of the second man decided to leave. But the first man stayed put. He walked away for a few seconds, and then he came back to look through the glass. If my counting is working, he must be repeating these steps for at least 30 times. There was this feeling of pity in me, if he walked away and she arrived, or he waited longer and she never turned up. Finally, I saw him waving to the person he had been waiting for. He tried to find the second man and lady. But they must have left.
Although I did not dare to walk closer to him because I didn’t want to behave like a busy body, I could see the big smile on his face. Now, this is when I couldn’t resist the urge in me. I quickly finished my bubble tea, as you can imagine how difficult it is to suck in these pearls. I followed him quickly to the exit to see him and peep at the lady from 2 metres away. She was young and pretty indeed, I think around 25 years old, and very likely from Vietnam, as I had heard this language quite frequently. She was dressed in a long colourful dress, with a slim fitting white floral blouse.
He gave her the bouquet of flowers, and hugged her many times, finally putting his hand around her shoulder, so intimately. She was like a treasure to have for the remainder of his life. And she too had a big smile on her, coming to Singapore for the first time and experiencing a new life in a foreign city. Suddenly it daunted on me that she was half his age, and I wondered how the future would be like for both of them. Right in my heart, I wish the best for both of them. But, right behind my heart, I can imagine how tough going a life both of them would face.
In our national newspapers, we have always talked about this issue of Singapore men marrying foreign ladies. My situation is no different. I am not sure about them getting married, but seeing the big bouquet of flowers, and the presence of his brother and sis-in-law, the big smiles and the closeness between them, they could be or must be heading to ROM.
At the time of writing this post, I was actually on the train from the airport, and at Tanah Merah, the train stopped and everybody got out except me. Few minutes later, I realised I was back at Changi airport. I had to go back all the way to Paya Lebar MRT.

Today is Mother’s Day; and some of us may wonder why we have to remember and celebrate Mothers’ Day on this special day. We should be celebrating this occasion any day or every day, and not just today.
Many occasions have become commercial events. There is Fathers’ day, secretaries’ week, Valentine’s day, Lover’s day, etc …. And, the restaurants are full, the hotels are busy, and the shopping centres are packed, but these occasions do help us remember the people we care and who have looked after us all these years.
We have lived many years, and still many more years to go. Perhaps, you may be celebrating Mother’s day today. Or your children may be celebrating mothers’ day for you today. You got a present, maybe a new handbag, a new blouse, or a dim sum lunch at Golden Gate restaurant in Chinatown. Or maybe, you got nothing, but a sweet call from your son or daughter from half around the world.
Dont you think it would be nice if we can share what Mothers’ day mean to you. Or what are you doing today on Mothers’ day.

Recently I went to work for four hours as a Standardised Patient – a what? yes, i was also baffled when i first heard this label. Basically, an SP role plays in a set clinical scenario. This scenario forms the practical assessment of mainly medical and nursing students.
After several days of bracing myself for the ‘job’, i went to report at the venue and saw the great buzz at the lift lobby. How exciting, i thought. Well, I was really relieved that my ‘debut’ went smoothly and i found the whole experience very interesting, so much so, i’m looking forward to my second assignment! lol!
I know there are other interesting part time work/jobs and it’ll be nice if you could share your experience. Who knows – we might form a network of sorts. A part-timers network? lol! :)
The online flea mart for the month of May is now open for your advertisements. The guidelines and regulations for advertising on the online flea mart have been revised and updated to include more services and to widen the scope of advertisements. Comments/queries regarding an advertisement are now permitted. It is also hoped that advertiser inform readers if their advertised items have been sold so that the usefulness of the online flea mart to members can be assessed.
If you have personal/’professional’ skills like dressmaking, clothes alteration, repairing / mending/fixing…. do advertise your services. This online flea mart site is here to serve members (not companies), so do make full use of it. 
Guidelines (regulations)
1. Members can advertise twice per month
2. Each advertisement must not be longer than 10 lines.
3. Members can advertise their personal services. eg, dress alteration, plumbing etc
5. Enquiries/comments regarding the item/service advertised are permitted but NOT chatting.
6, Company products, agent’s services are not permitted.
7. For contact purposes, provide e-mail addresses instead of telephone numbers.
8. Pictures of items advertised are limited to one per advertisement.

Updates: We have the latest change with our plan to have Edwin Chen as our musician. Instead, we are now having Jeffrey Gan who will play the live music for us during the Cabaret night.
