A top activity among seniors is travelling. Many of us love to go JB, further to China, and further still on a cruise from HK. Of course, it costs money, but for many we want to see the world at 60, 65 and 70.
Many seniors prefer to go with a friend or a group. So, we join a group, but sometimes, our travel partners become enemies. And the rest of the trip becomes sour, and we never want to see the other person again. Why?
Teenagers, young adults handle social communication better. But seniors and retirees fare badly on many issues when travelling together, despite a good 50 to 60 years living experience on earth.
“I just can’t stand why she spends such a long time making up in the toilet”.
“This lady is a bitch, real bloody bitch. I will never go out with her again.”
“Who does she think she is? She thinks she is still young. I don’t want to be associated with such people”.
“This guy is very stingy. He waits and waits and won’t offer to buy you a drink. So kiam siap. I can pay myself. No need him to pay for me”.
How do we go out travelling together and still come back as friends? Better still as closer friends. Are we the perfect travelling friend?
Let’s chat without hinting at who’s the person. Let’s discuss how we can be better travelling companies.

Let’s beginning the year of the pig with the Jan 2019 mthly. Many members would have celebrated a fun and memorable year end. Before the Lunar New Year festival arrives in early Feb, let’s find sometime together to meet up.
This is a good occasion for members who wish to organise a CNY lunch or dinner, and forming a table or two among friends. Members who are joining the Phuket to Bangkok self drive in April can also get together and meet up. Better still, those who are non drivers and wish to join the trip as passengers can also look to partner willing drivers. Plse read Phuket post for details.
As usual and typical of monthly gatherings, this event is for you to meet new members and catch-up with old ones too. Come along and get to know people whom you can get along with. Get to know someone who will come with you to our monthly gatherings every time. Find travel Kaki’s, mahjong Kaki’s, JB kakies, food lovers, or friends to chat. Cycling, walking or exercise friends.

We retired from our active employment many years ago, more than 10 years ago. We decided to enjoy through travelling after joining SHC around 2013, meeting Terence and in some ways, inspired by him. We noticed SHC members travelled widely and in short notice. Soon we came up with a 26 days free and easy tour of France, Spain and Portugal. Terrence was supportive and encouraged us to blog as we moved along. We agreed but never materialised. We quietly left and returned. We were unsure if we could get along well in such long trips. Since then we thought we have travelled quite widely, but a recent chat with a SHC lady proved otherwise. Our group, since 2013 have travelled, to name a few,
1. France, Spain and Portugal, Britain – 52 days
2. Turkey, Greece, Italy…… – 42 days
3. Bali, Surabaya, …………… – 21 days
4. Thailand, Laos, Yunnan …. –
5. A long list to bore you …. Shy to mention, because not well presented but anyone keen to know and see some of the places we have visited is welcome to our site at http://traveloffthebeatentracks.com/
And why all these intro here???
Simply and short……My friends and I are going on a short trip to Myanmar from 8th January to 17th January 2019. We feel that it might be nice to have more to join.
We are going by Jetstar flight 3K581 and back by flight 3K582. We have purchased our return air ticket at S$111.
This post is to invite our SHC members to join in.
When we travel we mostly have a room to ourselves unless we cannot secure 4 rooms in the hotel. We have booked our Yangon hotels for the first few days.
Yours in SHC
Chan Keng Ngee
This is a good time to remember our good times together. It is also a good opportunity to know how many friends we have made, since joining the SilverHairsClub, and how many we have decided to let go.
Very often, we wonder why other people are just not nice at all. Let’s enjoy the year-end and let’s wish our friends and fellow members a Merry Christmas.
Terence Seah
Each year, at this time, some of us have spare diaries and calendars. By 1st Jan 2019, these items are likely not nice as gifts, if not given away.
If u need a diary or calendar, do ask here. If you have spare diaries or calendars, say you have them here for giveaway.

Next year 2019, I have in plan to organise a “Self drive trip from Phuket to Bangkok” for SilverHairsClub members only.
The period is likely April 2019, and unlikely during the mid April 10-15 Songkhran water festival. Approx 9 days in total.
Starting from Phuket, the drive will take us along beautiful coastal beaches, coconut trees, wooden villages, small seafood stalls, small towns and crossing the narrow land stretch between the Amdaman sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
This trip is for:
1. Drivers only with a valid Singapore licence.
2. Able to read and use Google maps.
3. The cost of car rental, insurance, car parking, petrol and toll will be equally split among all participants. Estimate cost SGD 100 per day, split 4 participants.
4. Each car will be 4 pax only. Each car will require to have two full time drivers.
5. We will not be driving inter-towns after 6pm. However, we will drive at night around the town at night. Therefore, drivers should not have night vision difficulties.
Start and end dates:
Rented cars:
1. Website: https://www.rentalcars.com/
2. Start point: Phuket Airport (HKT). You may chose to start from Phuket Town.
3. End point: Donmuang, Bangkok. You may choose to end anywhere in Bangkok.
4. Budget rental: SGD 30 – 50 per day. Decision to be made by the two drivers of each. For planning, please use SGD 100 per day for 9 days for all driving expenses.
Rooms:
1. Hotel room will be advised for 1st night in Phuket only. Plse wait.
2. All other nights will not be prebooked, and will be decided as we reach each town on a daily basis.
3. Participants should note we will go for 2 or 3 star hotels twin share only, approx SGD 30-45 per room night.
4. Non-driver participants. The front two drivers in each car will decide if and who they would take as non-drivers passengers.
Besides shared car rental, petrol, toll, car park, and insurance, the back two passengers will pay an additional SGD 15 per person per day to a pool fund for dinner, as recommended by the treasurer.
Unlike Chiangmai and North Thailand, this trip will see plenty of flat lands and long stretches of sea. Food wise, we can expect plenty of fresh seafood, southern thai food (spicy), both Chinese and Muslim style.
Plse note ALL participants will have to do some planning and research. We won’t be on a guided tour but our own holiday free and easy drive.
If you are interested, and meet the above requirements, please whatsapp me at +65 9489 4360. I expect to start planning in Jan 2019.
Please indicate if going as driver or passenger. All back seat pessengers are on waiting list, subject to driver approved basis.
Closing date: Max 4 cars only.
Thank you.

Duration: approx. 2.5hours. Distance 6 km
Meeting Place: Kallang mrt .

This is a very popular route for an evening walk. The walk takes us to the most beautiful and scenic part of Singapore, its waterways and manicured gardens. Enjoy a panaromic view of modern Singapore, its many iconic landmarks and smartly designed buildings.
We commence our walk from Kallang mrt (EW Line), walk past old Kallang Airport control tower towards Kallang Stadium. There we take a lift to its upper floor jogging track, after which we proceed towards Tanjong Rhu condominium , continuing along a stretch for walkers, joggers, skaters and cyclists. This section borders the Bay and is lined with many flowering plants. It is a favourite spot for photo taking and many Media Corp TV serial shots were taken there.
After crossing Marina Reservoir Dam embankment, we will stroll through Bay Garden to our final destination at Marina Bay Sands where we can have a nice dinner at the foodcourt.
Bayfront mrt is also located there.
Wear comfortable footwear, no slippers/sandals.
Protect oneself with sun screen, sunglasses, caps. And bring along an Umbrella.

It has come to my attention that a number of members have been invited to private gatherings where the host and friends offer investment schemes to fellow members. Members are advised to be cautious with any investment schemes. And if members choose to go along the schemes, the decision and risks are yours.
These schemes usually attract seniors and retirees who have some sum of money and who wish to maintain or increase their retirement funds.
Members who are aware or have been offered such schemes can contact +65 9489 4360.

Sexy and Hot Salsa
There is no doubt Salsa is one of the most rewarding dances you can learn. So what is it? It is a brilliant, hot and spicy dance that will inspire Latin rhythms in everyone.
The steps are super-easy to pick up. So the time it takes you to learn your first few steps and be able to dance Salsa is far, far shorter than you might think.
It’s probably the easiest and quickest dance to pick up.
That makes it the perfect dance for complete beginners.
It’s a great dance that’ll make you smile and give you confidence, all set to a hot Latin beat.

SHC started in October 2005. This month is our 13th-anniversary. We will be celebrating this occasion with members during the October monthly gathering.

This CLAYPOT sign was my first sight when we went to 313@Somerset to have a check. The previous stall is under renovation. The seating is still the same. If you are lost in finding the place, please look for this stall.
The Claypot corner is quiet with a good ambience. We had a monthly gathering here before and it serves our need well. The food court has a variety of food

IF no rain the day before and esp on day itself, will include the Forest trail ????
It has been a couple of years since we scale up our country’s only Mount!
Time for a revisit to one of SG’s oldest park.
With nimble feet you shall rise up the Mount, to join tourist to behold the
panoramic view of our skyline, the southern part of SG and the southern
islands.
These views shall take your breath away, not so much the climb itself!
It is still very popular with tourist as there are a host of things to enjoy besides
the secondary rain forest that covers this mount.
Gentle Reminder:
1) Always wear comfortable shoes; light, loose clothing; bring a bottle of water
to stay hydrated; poncho/umbrella.
2) Optional items: cap, sun block, camera/binoculars, insect repellent.
3) Bring only the necessities, light is good.
Let’s pray for a clear day for us to enjoy stunning views from the peak!
Walk Team: Charles Wee, Veronica Wong, Mary Tan, Azhari Cuttilan

In the last 6 months, I have been thinking how I can make myself younger; at least feel younger. Even until today, I enjoy going out for different kinds of late night entertainment, from India to Vietnam to Cambodia, China and Bangladesh. Basically, I cannot sit still. The feeling of going back to the hotel after 1 or 2am with the heart still pumping at 90 beeps per min makes me feel satisfied after a day of dining and meeetings.
Guys and ladies, many of us are retired. Some of us are busy helping our chldren with their kids. Of course, some of us are still working. But, the Club has also numerous members enjoying a good night out dancing and singing.
SilverHairsClub has organised many dance events since 2005. We have our “One night in different cities” each year, and theme events. Very often, we have social dancing, a couple of ballroom dancing and line dancing. I am definitely a non-dancer, but I love a good night out. For many years, I find pleasure in bringing SHC members together. Music makes the world go round. And dancing and music always come together hand in hand.
Unfortunately, I find social dancing too slow for me, maybe too complicated for the body to cordinate with the hands, hips and legs. Sometimes, I get very jealous watching dancers twist and turn. And if I ever try dancing, I finally get myself all tangled up. I appreciate Line dancing; but I have never been able to understand line dancing. But I will still support Line Dancing, as long as someone raises his/her hand to be the EO/EC.
I like something hotter and younger. The above music video clip is just the beginning. If you like it, let me know. We will have a night out together. Let me know your thots and opinion.
Please regster ypur interest here. Dont be shy.

A big thank you to everyone who took their precious time to attend and give support at this Sept monthly gathering. Turnout was unexpectedly high. We took up a whole corner of the food court all to ourselves. As some members had commented …literally like our own private area. My heartfelt thanks to members who were helpful & initiated. You are wonderful people! I hope to see all of you again.
