Most of us here, the silverhairs are either in semi or full retirement and we have at least 20 more years to go.
Many have already engaged in all kind of hobbies, activities or learning to keep our body healthy and mind active
There is another form of activity that many akin it to gambling is playing mahjong and trading in stockmarket
But the fact is such activities is very good in engaging our mind and keep our brain cells active
If we go for training such activity like trading can be a profitable biz
One person that has proven that trading can be profitable is sgx swiinger He make his millions from stockmarket

A big thank you to all the supporters of the kopi chat ~ I’m glad that a whopping 25 of you turned up for the event. You’ll agree that we had a whale of a time this afternoon. See you all again next year…….

Haiku, anybody?
About the previous post …
Once a year we meet
Not too much we ask from you
Hope to see you soon
Friendship is what we after
In this Christmas Walk we come
Hope one will last forever
Event needs no cash
Only find and pay with time
As simple as that
If I have more than five interested in haiku poems, I can start a chat line to share. This chat line has rules to keep focus – no video uploads and unnecessary “alarm” postings just to circulate around the world and coming back to you time and again.
NB: Haiku is a type of poetry that can be written on many themes, from love to nature to life experiences.
Resources can be found from the Internet and the library.
We can share our findings and at the same time exercise our brains besides playing mahjong or sudoku.

Christmas Walk (18-12-2015 – Friday)
It is the time of the year again where we will say goodbye to the Year (2015) and welcoming the New Year (2016). Some of you may be in the middle of a tour overseas having quality time with friends or with family members and others may have no plan this year.
At our twilight (or silver hairs) years, we do not know when we will not be able to or not able to do what we can do best. So, it is timely to count our blessing year by year by meeting with like-minded people to cherish our fellowship and having a simple “Christmas” food court dinner together.
As with any other years, this is a good time and opportunity to stroll, after dinner, along Orchard Road and try your night photography skills with your smartphone and/or camera. For those interested, please see details below.
Date: 18th Dec 2015 (Friday evening)
Time: 6.30PM to 9.30PM
Meeting Place and Start Point: Tanglin Mall Food Court (junction of Orchard Road & Grange Road). End Point will be at Somerset or Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station.
Program:
1) Dinner before chat: 6.30PM to 7.30PM: for those who can come early, we can have a dinner together in the food court and getting to know each other better.
2) Fellowship: 7.30PM to 8.30PM: Chat at Mall (free n easy – form your own small group on per table basis). Share what you have experienced this year, your reflections, what you can do better, etc. [Always remember a quote from the late George Carlin on Ageing. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.]
3) Start walking: 8.30PM to 9.30PM: Start walking and picture taking.
You can use your smartphone or camera to take some pictures.
Size of Gathering: in order not to make ourselves too obvious and attract unwanted attention, registration will close when 20 are reached.

Imagination
What mind would think of doing a 140km trek over four days in Sge? And sleeping in a lorry!*
An imaginative mind! A mind that animated the idiom “walk the talk” in such an unexpected way; a mind that introduced a new kind of adventure that could be adapted to a learning experience for students now that Mt Kinabalu is out of favour.
Imagination, not knowledge, according to Einstein is the true sign of intelligence. We need imaginative people who can think outside the box –new ideas to solve problems that cannot be solved by the old ways. We need more people with imagination.
And of course imagination is needed to write a best seller. Poor Snoopy!
Internet Security
Date: 12th Dec (Saturday)
Time: 3PM to 5PM
Place: Bukit Merah Library
Attendance: No charge
Learn the proper way to minimise your risk of getting into trouble when using The Internet.
The talk will also covers some basic ways to solve computer problems with insufficient memory error messages on Apple and Windows computers.
For those interested, you can register for a seat through NLB’s web site, via http://nlb.gov.sg/golibrary/
Registration normally commences sometime on the last week of November.

The calm after upgrading to Windows 10
Help me see where I went wrong.
I have always marvelled at the Blackberry mobile phone, having used it for more than 10 years. 3 days ago, I decided to upgrade the mobile device software to the latest. I could not because there was not enough space on the Blackberry. So, I went to my PC, downloaded and upgraded my mobile phone. It worked well. And I thought it was safe, I decided to do a backup of my Blackberry. This went well and I had a successful backup in the cloud.
A day later, I thought why not I upgrade my PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. So, I did, and why not, Windows 10 was free. Again successful, although I had to get used to it.
The trouble has just begun. Itchy as I am always, I decided to restore my Blackberry backup. A whole host of nightmare starated to surface. I could not restore my contacts. Nothing else could do the job. After numberous hours, I decided to go back to Windows 7. This was difficult, although I need to hunt for the button to revert to Windows 7. Finally, my PC could talk to the Blackberry. But, still cannot restore any of my contacts which are still on the PC.
My Blackberry now does not have the contacts of all SilverHairsClub members. So, when an email, whatsapp or telephone comes in, I cannot recognise the name of the sender.
I am now pissed with my Blackberry; can look at it, can touch it but cannot use it.

Towards simplicity
It was a pleasant surprise to read that decluttering is an exercise in identity discovery and that the impulse to simplify life, according to a simplicity expert, is the fruit of decluttering: emotional tranquillity*.
Yet it is not easy to throw away one’s things. In her Sunday Times article “In praise of the things in your life”**, the writer just could not part with her white elephants though the desire to declutter was there. Decluttering is an emotional thing.
But there will come a time when the impulse to simplify gets strong enough for the simplifier wannabes to take concrete action – just like one finally gets one’s will done, and the advance medical directive (AMD) too.

If you have a hearing problem, your mobile can be a great help
I like to share an accidental experience with a hearing problem.
Most of us carry a mobile phone. Inside the mobile phone, there is a microphone and an external jack for a headphone.
- Look for an apps with the name “hearing aid”. Install it.
- Plug a headset to the external jack.
When you have a chat with your friends, put the mobile phone on the table. Start the app. Hear the conversation clearly and loudly with the headset.
Share your experience. Which app works well.

Setting up a Premier Paypal account for your small business
Paypal is a popular way to sell your things and collect money. It is also a way to pay for goods and services you may buy internationally or locally.
In Singapore, money that is collected by Paypal on your behalf can be withdrawn to a local Singapore account. Some of you are doing some selling, and may like to set up a Premier account or a Business account.
We are trying to identify a place. Yew Kwong has been kind enough to conduct a session, approx 2 hours for members who are interested in setting up a Premier Paypal account. We have not identified the place yet.
But, if you are interested, please register your name here. More information will be per provided here, when ready. Charge approx $5 per person. Priority given to those who register personally on this forum.

These Hazy Days
The haze is exceptionally bad today;
The sky is a uniform sea of grey.
Nothing in sight save a still volleyball of chrome yellow;
At 9.30 a.m. is it the moon or the sun so mellow?
Heavy hangs the still, ashen air;
Still leaves on trees stoically bear.
Now the haze has got worse – the PSI is more than 300!
School is cancelled; outdoors is unsafe – life’s disrupted.
But happy the schoolkids – their ignorance is bliss.
Guilt-free forest fire perpetrators continue to get away;
Across the sea, haze victims a change in wind direction pray.

Recruit the new SHC committee
Dear members,
We have tried different committee concepts to run SHC. We learn what works and what fails. But, we should not give up, even though we had failed in the past. I still think it is better to have a committee to run the SilverHairsClub. Personally, I do not prefer the status quo situation. So, I will try again. One concept which will not change is that members can continue to organise activities for other members, as EOs or ECs.
The new committee will come from our general membership. For the first year, the chairman will be me. Haha, I am no retired general, maybe a retired fisherman. If you like to join the committee, please whatsapp to me at +65 9489 4360.
Some points which I have learnt over the last 10 years from Club members are:
- Able to work with other committee members. Friendly and sociable members preferred. Less “I” and more “We”.
- All meetings will be via Whatsapp only. Physical meetings only from time to time. Why Whatsapp? because I travel most of the month, so very little time in Singapore. But, I believe in SHC and our seniors population. We have to care for ourselves.
- Members should not circulate pictures, videos, URLs, only text.
- Agenda strictly re Club matters only.
- No politics, sex, race, religion, direct selling and MLM.
- Committee members who are unable to participate in the meetings, I am sorry we have to let you go. Committee members who break the rules, will be automatically take out of the committee.
If you would like to develop a future for SHC, and are interested to make our objective work, I would to invite you to join the new SHC committee. Our objective is to provide a platform for SilverHairs to meet new and more friends. I would like to extend this platform, but let’s discuss within the committee.
I look forward to hearing from you. +65 9489 4360.

A singer and entertainer, and a non-professional
If you can sing, love to sing, in English, Chinese, Malay, Vietnamese, Hindi or just about any language, comfortably and with your own music media, we would like to hear from you.
Continuously 4-5 songs, dont have to be a professional. It is ok to fumble once in a while but can get out of it and laugh at oneself, this would be great; I am looking at an entertainer and singer. I dont expect your entertainment to be free.
Songs, memorable, love, known, evergreen, songs that most of us know, male or female. Romantic also can. Hatred also ok.
I dont need you to have a good professional voice, but if you can carry through throughout the 4-5 songs, without looking at the scripts all the time, you are the person. Sure, you can have a partner.
You know who to contact: +65 94894360.
