“Party services” for the young and old – maybe another idea

Now, back to my cranky thoughts.  We have discussed a number of ideas, something for our retirement days.  In line with the Blue Helmet concept, I am beginning to think that some of us can gather together to provide party services to the public – young and old.  Something which I think we can do, even if we are over 45.

Singapore has a bigger population of high-end PRs and new citizens.  Maybe more kids, more need to meet with fellow Singaporeans.  Maybe more generous and open to kids parties.  Singaporean families may be looking forward to bringing their kids friends together; and of course in a more relaxed mood.  Maybe as a business, we can provide party services to them.

Then, there is the older generation in Singapore.  I guess parties would be good.  Not simply cooked food in the house.  Maybe parties, at home or somewhere in a untouch spot in Singapore.  Maybe, kids are looking at more than just going to a restaurant.  A birthday party, an anniversary or even a family gathering.  A different father’s day or even a celebration for good school results.

I dont have all the ideas and plans; but I guess for those who are interested, we can get together.  Of course, some would like to be party organisers.  Alot of work; but I think this is something suitable for the over 45s who are looking for some work, hopefully exciting and rewarding.

Broadly, I would think this party services would take in some SHCians in different roles.

If you are interested, please drop a comment here, saying what you would be interested in.  Please do not email or sms me, as I prefer ideas to be shared.

SHC monthly gathering – Tues, Aug 10, 2010 evening

We just had the D&D in July and would have the Beach Party soon at the end of August.  It’s about time, we have the regular monthly gathering at Hans.  For some, the excitement will be just being back from the kelong trip; for others, it will have been the National Day celebrations just over.  And, for others, the fun will be the beach party at Sentosa.

Time to just meet up, chat, plan your activities, pay back the dues from the World Cup, or maybe think about some charity events before the end of the year.  Maybe, how about making some money for retirement or better still do some planning for retirement.  Starting a business, climbing Mount Everest, go to Bandung, ladies chit chat, going up to HK to meet Geraldine, or going to see Ben Foo in Ho Chi Minh city.  Talk about the D&D or talk about the Prom night.  The regular monthly meeting is just a great way to meet.  What shall we do with the used pyjamas?  Aiyah, no end.  Plan and organise your hobbies group; meet and chat.  Now, for the details.

  • Date:  Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010
  • Time:  1600 to 2030 hrs.  Early session for those who are retired; and later session for those still working.
  • Place:  Hans Cafe at Great Eastern Building, Upper Pickering Street.
  • Charges:  Free, you are free to buy your own F&B at the counter.
  • Dress:  anything.

Other Details:

  • Bring your name tag; If you dont have, we will give you a sticky label to place on your dress/shirt.
  • Registration required.  Strictly for SHC members only.  If your SHC member friend is coming, please encourage him/her to register personally with the correct name.
  • Strictly no politics, sex, race, religion, direct selling or MLM.

TOTO AND HORSE RACING SPECULATION

My bold adventure bore fruit in my 2nd attempt when I predicted 3 numbers in Row 3 for the last TOTO draw on 15 July actually came out 3 numbers. Since I did not provide the actual numbers there is no guarantee that you would have won even if you did follow may advice but I believe I shortened the speculative odds in your favour.

Let’s see how I fare in horse racing today with 3 VAL-BETS(value in winning chances with decents odds).

They are rACE 4 NUMBER 3 BAY OF ISLAND…Race 7 number 4 EQUIENCE…and Race 9 number 2 VILLIAN.

As a bonus I am throwing in the best forecast for the day in Race 11 even it shall not count in the VAL-BET tally in my adventure in racing Investments. The forecast in Race 11 should be on number 8 with number 2. The names are Maple Star and Grecian Choice . Maple Star is favoured to win the race and Grecian Choice can possibly upset at odds paying  a decent payout

I wonder if I was plain lucky in my TOTO speculation or that is some methdology to my theories…waiting for the knives and guns around the corner. I don’t mind getting hit by super soakers , paint balls or poop gun…let’s discuss.

Can horse racing make money? I will try to buck the trend

I made a tip on a HKG race last week and the horse was not in the top 3. As all of you in SHC know my knowledge of Mandarin is a big fate zero. My copy and paste of my HKG tipster friend shud be authentic as some parts are in Mandarin. Since this is the last day of the HKG season this tip is only for a matter of interest and we will serious R.O.I analysis only for HKG races later in the year. I have had a favourable start with a 1.68 return for my VAL-BETS but the average return is 1.05 to 1.2.

Here is the text from my friend with his R.O.I for his HKG season

Dear friends,

This is the last raceday of the season; I would like to thank everyone for their support of sum shui.  Excluding this last raceday, sum shui was given out on 82 Hong Kong racedays.  A 1 point bet on each sum shui will result in a total of 87.25 points, for a return of +7.72%.

Sum shui will be back in early September for another season of Hong Kong racing.

My sum shui for Wednesday is R6#4 Mr Vigorous ????. In other words he made the equivalent of SG$436.25 from an investment of  SG$410 (not counting the result of today’s races). Please note that his bnets are based on single win bets of HKG$10 and dividends are based on HKG tote. I am tabulating the points based on SG $ equivalent to make it easier to understand. My friend is a pro making a living from investing in horses and he provides one free tip per race day to his mailing list as a means of advertising.

Happy Punting,

Decorative Magnets on Refrigerators …are they a health hazard?

Decorative Magnets on Refrigerators

A number of researchers at Princeton’s University have discovered
something scary!.

For several months, they were feeding two groups of mice: the first
group with food kept in a refrigerator, and the second group with food kept in a
refrigerator as well but with several decorative magnets on the door.

The objective of this experiment was to see how electromagnetic
radiation (that coming out from the decorative magnets on the door)
affect food items. Amazingly, rigorous clinical studies stated that
the group of mice that consumed the “radiated” food had as much as 87

% higher probability to get cancer than the other group of mice.

Inexplicably no Governments or health associations/institutions have

given any statement on this regard. However and just in case, is
recommendable  to remove any decorative magnet from  refrigerators,
and put it far away from any food.

Kindly pass this information to your contacts. I guess this is not proven. Any thoughts from any experts out there?

Reflection: Ending The Pain

When life gets too painful to live on,
There is death to end the pain,
And none can stop your death act,
But oh, have you not lived in vain?

Her grief was hurting night and day,
Though no one knew; none could read her mind.
One early morn, she ended her pain,
And oh, her mother’s sorrow she left behind.

If life depends on one’s fate,
Hers must be among the saddest,
And Fate being blind, the living can only hope
Their lot will not be among the worst.

Specially caters for 1st time cyclists to Malaysia. Others are welcome to join.

PENGARANG

It’s an area at the southeastern tip of Johor, to the south of Desaru. The name is usually used to cover the dock and immigration post at Pengarang, the village of Kampong Pengilih and the town of Sungai Rengit.

Going there by boat
Sungei Rengit is 17km from Tanjong Pengilih Ferry Terminal, the landing point where you arrive by ferry from Singapore.
Bumboats shuttle from Singapore’s Changi Point Ferry Terminal to Pengarang from 7am in the morning, first ferry service to 4pm in the afternoon, last ferry service. The journey takes about an hour and costs $9 per person, plus $2 for a bicycle.

Sightseeing
Pengarang was the site of a major WW2-era British coastal battery. The part of it at Pengilih, right next to the immigration point, is open to the public but in a state of nature, with no trails, signs, etc.
Chinese temples are quite common sight. There is one particular one which houses a large Goddess of Mercy guarding its entrance.

Women can live alone; Men cannot

This topic may sound strange; but without doubt, this is also one of my favourites.

For a long time already, I have been wanting to get more men to join SHC activities.  Although we do have many men joining SHC as members, we seem to have more ladies participating in the activities.  Men seem to watch from afar.  Women seem to want to stand right in front.

During one of my conversations, i questioned why more women participate in activities.  Because they want to make more friends? And this seemed to be the most popular response.  Now, what about men?  Dont they want to have more friends?  Well, the response is also similar; and that is they too want to meet and have more friends.  So, what’s the diff?

And, out of the blue, and I have heard this twice, "Women can live alone; Men cannot."  Well, I hope this topic can be a weekend discussion.  Do you agree?  I hope to use this feedback to find ways to get more men to join SHC activities.

Trading shares – the Abel’s way, Wed 7 July 2010

Talking about buying and selling shares; we all have our own ways to play shares.  There are the brokers and there are the online platforms.  There are charts, and there are gut feels, and there are hear says.

I shall be organising a series for those who are interested in buying and selling shares.  I have met SHCians from different trading companies.  The dates have still to be confirmed.  But, to start with, we have someone Abel Tan, who buys and sells almost daily.  I would classify his style as gambling; and he is not shy about it.

Next week, Wed 7 July, Abel will be at the Brastilava Caffe.  Starts 4.30 pm and ends 6pm.  He will share with us his style of buying and selling shares.  No statistical proofs; And, he stresses its gambling stocks with merely acquired experience.  If you are interested, put your name here to get a seat.
