Tales 1- Anyway this was a real happening 9 years ago.

Company A sponsored 50% her Staff recreation club a tour to Xiamen. 30 participants , 29 were easy going except 1 female X( always right charector ). There were 13 pairing; 1 husband/wife team; 1 single man and this female X- she cannot accept rooming as a problems to tour leader until the tour leader compromised to let her have room by herself on condition that if tour leader cannot find her a rooming mate. There no subsequent participant. The leader knowing her headach and went ahead with travelling plan. On arrival the hotel, there were NO extra room available for booking. The Tour leader approach the husband/wife and agreement were reached. Tour leader happily distribute room keys.The husband were rooming with the single man, Female X were to room with the wife. Female X was not happy and frailed up, throwing tantrum, shouting and creating a scene until the Boss of the hotel ( Happens to be CompanyA boss’s brother) appeared. After chating with the tour leader and calling his brother in Singapore. A few minutes later , 2 hotel security guards appeared, the hotel boss gave the female X some money ( were supposed to be the portion she paid for the tour ) told the guards to make sure she board the next flight home. It was horror to female X had to pay the full price of a ticket  ( 4 x she paid for her tour), Worse ,she was terminated the day she reported for work.

Arrive in Perlis in the morning; after breakfast proceed to Hidden Cave- walk through the 370 meters pathway to discover the secret GARDEN . Visit the Robert Kouk’s cane plantation and Refinery to learn the process of sugar. Next will bring you to Natural Garden and Snake Garden. Will stay for a Night at Hotel in Perlis.

2014 June 20th

After breakfast, travel to Alor star ( Kedah State ) to visit the Padi Museum to learn the History of Rice cultivation. Next will bring you to The Mahathir’s Exhibition centre to appreciate collections, gifts presented to the EX-Primier by different countries. Next to the Famous Alor Star Viewing Tower. Stay at Alor Star Hotel

2014 June 21st

Travel to Penang in the morning . Visit the Asia’s biggest Buddish Pagoda. Next we learn from the famous Penang Wall Paintings to discover the Local culture and early living enviroments. Historic preservation of the Local Chinese Buildings. Stay ONE night in Penang.

Proceed to Ipoh after breakfast. Will shop for Local produce. End the Tour and head for home.

This monthly walk will cover a garden and a park.

In the Ang Mo Kio garden much of the original vegetation and terrain of a secondary
forest has been retained. Various types of flora and fauna exist. Butterflies and
dragon flies can be spotted. There are also fruit trees and food plants, a reminder
of the past agricultural activities.

The Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is filled with colourful shrubs, lush greenery, ponds,
and bridges. The Kallang river that runs through the park is of great benefit.
Picnics, fishing, cycling, roller blading, jogging and other sports can be found here.

It is an Italian stall in a neighbourhood coffee shop. Their food tastes great and yet their prices are very reasonable. Their food starts from a very affordable price of $3.90. An average main item, such as their spaghetti, costs about $6.90.

Some recommendations:
Garlic butter pork (I think it is $7.90), it is great with a generous portion being served.
Gelato – one of their specialties.

I am EOing this activity. I will be booking with them one table of 10. If response is good, I will try to book two tables if we can reach 20 people.

My name is Eric Leow, a new member to this Club.

I am playing pickleball for the last year and there are players who are playing this for the last 20 odd years. Many players across all skill-level have claimed that it would be “very hard” to stop playing the game, with some saying that they are “very determined” to continue playing.

Briefly pickleball is a hybrid of Badminton, Tennis and Table-tennis, a three in one game, played with a wooden, graphic, or composite paddles and a perforated plastic ball. It can be played on a normal Badminton court or on any hard surface. The net is lowered to 3 ft high.

If you find badminton, tennis or squash too strenuous for you, then pickleball is an excellent introductory game. It is very easy to learn and is quickly played and enjoyed by everyone, men, women, children and benefiting people at all ages. It is a low cost game. Badminton courts are easily available in our CC or sports hall. All you need is to buy the paddles and balls.

From my personal experience, I found that most pickleball clubs do not want to take in new players who have not play this game before.

I know the organizer of a pickleball club, and I think I should be able to convince him to recruit new players. Subject to SHCians expression of interest, I am considering to introduce pickleball and EO this sports here.

If this is on, it would be on every Tues and Thurs 9.30am to 12.30pm. However, if the CC required the use the hall for activities then that session will be cancelled.

You just need to get your own paddle, and contribute towards the purchase of balls. Not to worry about the amount, it is very affordable. It is about $3-$4 per month.

The place is in the vicinity of Hougang.

In July 2014, we shall have another session on “Investments: Online trading – What works for you?”  This topic has been suggested by Jonathan Ong.  Some of us trade, on a daily basis.  Some of us work only at night.  Some of us go for courses, conducted by broker companies.  Some of us swear we can make money even if we live outside Singapore, in a resort on top of the mountain, or on a cruise or somewhere in Penang.

Of course, many of us have our good days.  While some of us swear of success by adopting certain techniques, philosophy and psychology.  This Sat 17 May, we have a session on “Investments and US markets”.  Depending on how participants react to this session, we can have another session in July.  Date and place not decided yet.

While the planning is ongoing, you are invited to contribute ideas to make this session interesting.  We can adopt some of your ideas.  Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi everybody,

For members who are still working, we tend to have our gatherings in the evenings and on weekends.

For members who are not working, we tend to meet during daylight hours. We tend to avoid evening hours. No beers and loud music.

To many, Saturdays and Sundays are considered family time, so weekend activities suit some.

What about lunch time? Everybody needs to eat. Some of us have lunch 12-1pm, others 1-2pm. Retirees and those whose hours are flexible can go out lunch 12-2pm.

Our monthly gatherings are usually on a weekday, between 4pm and 8.30pm. Sometimes, we try weekends. I don’t remember we having a lunch time gathering.

Do you know of a cosy place that we can meet? Frequency: once a week. For a start, we can consider any weekday 12-2pm.

1. Have lunch at the venue, maybe $6-10 @ person (I pick this number from the air). Lunch could be single dish with Tea/coffe or a set lunch with a soup, main and Tea/coffee. The venue decides the food.

2. Must be near a MRT station, without need to change to a bus, etc. We have limited lunch time.

3. Free seating, and confirmation of the number of Pax, one day before the lunch. Give the venue time to arrange the food.

4. Participants open to SilverHairsClub members, booking of lunch one day before the actual lunch date, and pre-paid.

5. Members can bring friends. Friends and non-members pay $2 per Pax, over non-member’s lunch.

6. Objective of this lunch is to facilitate members getting to know other members, and their friends. Can also bring parents so that they get to know one another too. We have to break the loneliness in our life when we get older and retire.

If you cook or can organise the food, and know of a venue, again meeting the above criteria, this can also be considered.

If you have been to a venue that meets the criteria, please mention the place here. You can also whatsapp me or speak to any of member whom you know.

SilverHairsClub believes that when members and seniors gather together, they will finally find common interests and friends. The rest is up to you.
