Lunch on Friday, 23/5/2014 at Blk 112 Bishan St 12

It is an Italian stall in a neighbourhood coffee shop. Their food tastes great and yet their prices are very reasonable. Their food starts from a very affordable price of $3.90. An average main item, such as their spaghetti, costs about $6.90.

Some recommendations:
Garlic butter pork (I think it is $7.90), it is great with a generous portion being served.
Gelato – one of their specialties.

I am EOing this activity. I will be booking with them one table of 10. If response is good, I will try to book two tables if we can reach 20 people.

Investments: Online trading and what works for you? an activity in July 2014

investment2investment1     investment3

In July 2014, we shall have another session on “Investments: Online trading – What works for you?”  This topic has been suggested by Jonathan Ong.  Some of us trade, on a daily basis.  Some of us work only at night.  Some of us go for courses, conducted by broker companies.  Some of us swear we can make money even if we live outside Singapore, in a resort on top of the mountain, or on a cruise or somewhere in Penang.

Of course, many of us have our good days.  While some of us swear of success by adopting certain techniques, philosophy and psychology.  This Sat 17 May, we have a session on “Investments and US markets”.  Depending on how participants react to this session, we can have another session in July.  Date and place not decided yet.

While the planning is ongoing, you are invited to contribute ideas to make this session interesting.  We can adopt some of your ideas.  Look forward to hearing from you.

Online business

I’ve always been interested in starting an online business but have yet to take concrete action because of a reluctance to move out of my comfort zone. Today in the Sunday Times there is an article about an online business in renting – “Just rent and save” – toys, cars, tools.. and once again I started dreaming… I have a few pieces of retro clothing – cat-suit, cheongsam..i think I can rent them out…my mind went.

Hmm, anyone else enthusiastic about starting an online business in renting out things? We could brainstorm over coffee. :) We could collaborate if feasible or start individual platforms. Wonder what the pitfalls are.

Update:

The brainstorming session will be held on Thursday 5th June.

Time: 2.30 – 4.30 p.m.

Venue: Dignity Kitchen.

Using MS Office (Excel) – (17th May 2014 – Saturday)

Microsoft Office (Excel) is a wonderful spreadsheet program. We can use it to develop our own family budget planning. I am no financial guru but a person who through life had managed other people’s money (as a purchaser). The bottom line is always the final balance sheet, the IN and OUT of money flow and how justify we are to spend the way it was spent. There is no one answer to every solution. If it is our own money, then plan and spend it wisely.

My intended talk, with details below, will just demonstrate to you the effects of any change in monthly income (gain or lost) will affect your projected family lifestyle.

Topic: How to prepare a family annual budget using Microsoft Office (Excel)
Date: 17.05.2014 (Saturday)
Time: 3.00PM to 5.00PM
Attendance Fee: Free (no charge)
Venue: Leng Kee Community Centre (Nearest MRT – Redhill MRT)
Venue changed to Queenstown Community Centre (Nearest MRT – Queenstown)

Address: 365 Commonwealth Ave, Singapore 149732 (Phone: 6474-1681)
Prerequisite: Understand basic computing and bring your laptop with MS Office installed if you have one.
Owing to classroom size, registration will stop at 20.

Virtual SHC Co-operative ( Part II )

After my posting on above, discussion review the necessity to disclose how share allocation on the Incorporated SHC Co-operative. The basic and formulae are as follow :

Using the illustration of Spore-Pengerang-Spore Tour package. Assuming we manage to generate a sales of 10,000 units over the period. This will generate a value of 10,000 x 88= 88,000. Out of this 88,000 , 7,000 will be awarded to participated member drivers; 4400 (5% sales commission to members generating the revenue) 2640 (3% to SHC enterprise) We will take 88000 ( value varies depending on performance) as a basis point for share units. The share value will be determind on various factors- e.g magnitude of growth, market capitalisation, etc ) Lets assume a figure of $20.00 per share. Thus the registered issue capital for will be 88,000 units x $20 =  $ 1,760.000 .

The piioneer share holders registered capital will be

SHC enterprise                                   $   52,800  but only pay S 2,640 to acquire                the Participated member drivers        $ 140,000 but pay only S$ 7,000 to acquire            the  Sales Members                           $   88,000 but  pay only S$ 4,400 to acquire         the  Balance 73,960 belongs to the management team and the existing  members who constribute to the purchases. A convincing reports base on actual allocation will be discuss. All unalocated share will be open to new members/inactive member ( non-constributors) to subscribe at $ 20 a unit.

I look forward to the day to pay passive income through yearly declared dividend to member shareholders, generate silver hair employblities and other benefits.

I cannot be a oneman show to term a management team. Invitation is open to members to volunteer as Accountant, Auditors And records Adminstrator and trustee for Fund collection. I am looking into other programme that are beneficiary to SHC and at same time can constribute revenue to our venture.

I wish the car owners will volunteer to constribute to the success of my first Travel Package . Other forms of human resources ( e.g out of box ideas, contacts ) are highly appreciated if you suggest. You can email me at ang_tonio@yahoo.com.sg if you like to clearify before posting on blogg.

A Big Thank You to all who attended the coffee chat this afternoon.  We had an enjoyable session – getting to know new members as well as meeting old friends.

Virtual SilverHair Co-operative

When I first retired from my full time job age 50 with NTUC, I wanted to set up a co-operative for Seniors but was put off as I had an attractive offer to work in China. Now that I am jobless and believe time in on my side .

I believe in pooling  members ‘ existing resources  to work for the success of this co-operative. I do not believe in asking members to contribute money towards this set-up. No body is to bleed for the failure of this misadventure.

Many retirees spend on all forms of necessities- which forms the revenue of  this co-operative. As this co-operative taps on the facilities provided by SHC enterprise- a 3% on revenue sales is provided as a constribution. All resources provided by members will be awarded in monetary gains. Details of rewards will be outlined as we roll out programme.

I have plans for  Tour programme -(A) Spore-Pengerang-Spore (B) Spore-kukup-Spore. we will develop other packages as times go by. The details of (A) as follows :

Spore-Pengerang-Spore Tour 1                          Spore-Pengerang-Spore Tour 2

8.30 am – Assemble at pick-up point                   8.30 am – Assemble at Changi Ferry T 8.45 am – Cars leave via causeway                    8.45 am – By Boat to Tg Pengelin Ter 10.00am- Arrived lago land/shoppingComp       10.00am – At Pengerang walk  around 12.30am -Lunch at Farm house/others              12.30pm – Lunch at Kg Sungai Rengit 2.30pm  – Tour around Sungai Rengit                                  and tour around                  3.oopm  – drop passengers at Jetty to                3.15 pm – Pick up Tour 2 passengers                       ferry home                                                           heading for  JB shopping         By 5.00pm –  Those intend to stay a night           6.00 pm –  Dinner is optional at own

The resources require to make this tour successfully depends on members car pooling, as well as salesmanship. Sales commission 5%. Car driver get  $ 140 ( travel by Taxi to kampong Sungai Rengit from JB is S$ 70).

I intend to price this tour package at S$88 (all inclusive except Lago Land entry fee) per pax..Any suggestion to charge higher are welcome. Under this win-win arrangement. As participant- you have the comfort of travelling in private car. As a participated Driver-you have ( S$140-88 ) S$ 55.00 appreciation fees.

Opinion poll : How about each passenger pay S$ 75 transport to Participate Driver for Genting / Malacca Trip ?

A thought going through my mind

payment3hahahapayment1

Here’s a thought that has been going in my mind since our last BBQ picnic at Changi Beach Park. It has also bothered me as to how some members think about the cost of events.

Paul came all the way to meet me at the BBQ picnic, specifically to bring me the message on what some members of his group feel about the cost of the BBQ event. I won’t try to read further into the comment, but it goes like this.
To participate in the BBQ picnic, members who come without bringing along any food have to pay $10. Those who bring food, enough for 4, will have a discount of $8. In other words, they pay a net of $2.

Those who came just for the event, will need to pay $10.

If everybody brings along food, they will need to pay $2 each.

The issue is if a member comes along, with food, he/she will have enough food for 4 Pax.

The question is if there is food for 4 Pax, then why is there a need to charge $10. Where did the $10 go to?

And, if everybody brings food, what is the point of collecting $2.

I decided to EO this event because I was looking for a breezy place, for a members gathering, with plenty of standing room to move around for chitchatting and getting to know one another. And being a Sat afternoon, this will be a pleasant change.

Thinking about it again, I am grossly shocked at the insinuation by Paul’s group. And I am wondering if I should be affected by these remarks.

I hope to hear members’ views.

Dear Members,

Season of grief

Spring becomes the season of grief (ST 21/4) this year for S Koreans because of the ferry sinking disaster with so many still missing. The suicide of the vice principal who was rescued but found the burden of guilt unbearable – why could she not see it was not her fault? Today’s ST – all the desperate calls for help…heartrending.

Season of blossoms,

The eye sees, the mind enjoys –

This time tears falling

MonthlyWalk: 10th May, Off the Beaten Walk venture

(This trip also in response to the request of “Let’s venture out of Singapore, perhaps to Johor?!”)

There have been much interest going to Pengerang especially since In late 2011 news about the Malaysian government’s plans to build petrochemical projects there and,
in Feb 2014, a Feng  Shui expert has selected Pengerang for its “good Feng Shui” and to which graves from the new Chinese gravesite in Bukit Gelugor, Johor will be relocated here!

Before this wonderful place is no more…. become less idyllic, with an increase in traffic both human and vehicles – lorries …
COME, join us  in this “raw” venture ie., sans prior recce, so somewhat disorganized…  bear with us ….   :D   :D

On the way one will enjoy lovely scenery of uncut grasses waving on either sides (sign of ‘welcome’  hehe)  coconuts trees swaying  with the wind;  the lovely kampong charm; the peaceful surrounding devoid of tall buildings! The lack of urban noises, if one craved  for open spaces

Sungai Rengit the  town in Pengerang located south-eastern tip of Johor is dotted with a dozen seafood  restaurants, all with local Spiny Lobsters as their main draw!

The favourable currency exchange rates for Singapore dollar meant we will eat  like ‘royalty’ there.

Pengerang was also the site of a major WW2-era British coastal battery — Malayan WWII history, where the British troops  readied their defences in preparation for a Japanese attack via Singapore!

Unlike other groups, I prefer to go with the bumboat instead of coach!      :D    :D

NOTE:  Time & cost – are estimates only and to be paid by each participant.

This trip is subject to availabilities & weather condition.

The day’s adventure shall start from our Changi  Village.         :D

ECs:  Christina Chan & Azhari Cuttilan
Date:  Saturday, 10th May 2014  (ie., 2nd Saturday)
Start Time:  8.15am sharp.
Meeting Point:
Changi Point Ferry terminal, gather at the back to ‘Mark’ attendance (do not go down to the ferry departure lobby).

LOGISTICs purpose –
GUARANTEE OF SEAT/RESERVATION ***** –  Deposit S$20 with registration to POSB Acct No.: 542-107-561
by Tuesday 29th April 2014.
Please provide name & time of deposit for verification purposes.

Deposit will be refunded either on board bumboat or during lunch.
“No show” = No refund of deposit, which will be taken to defray cost for missing seats in bumboat and taxi or registered participant get a replacement.

Reservations will be considered in sets of 12, SHC members shall be given priority.
Initial target:  24pax.
Additional will be placed on wait list, if insufficient no. of pax to fill another bumboat, you may choose to pay/share for the missing seats to make up the bumboat operators’ requirement.

The prerogatives of the Walk Team shall take precedence.

HIGHLIGHTS of the trip –

Are you still using SMS?

sms4sms2sms1

SMS was and still is one of the best instant messenger. With SMS, we are able to communicate with friends, family members, colleagues and just about anyone around the world.

Nowadays, we have more instant messengers, many of them free to use, if we have an internet or WIFI connections. With SilverHairsClub, we provide a platform for SHCians to meet new and old friends.

With Viber, Whatsapp, LINE, WeChat, Tango, and so many other free applications, we can now communicate quickly and freely. Share with fellow SHCians what you use, how you use these new applications and the when’s and the why’s. Do you talk with this messengers?

Depending on the interests, our next monthly gathering would focus on new ways of modern communication. Or, are you still using SMS.
