I would like to invite all of you to join me at the Paya Lebar Kovan CC for a night of FUN dancing, waltzing and twisting if you want to.

This class is also for total beginners in dancing. You can dance the line dance alone or with group of your friends.

The advantage of this dance is that there is no need to have a partner to dance. It is the best type of dance for ladies who want to learn dancing but hesitating they will not get a male dancing partner.

BOLLYWOOD NITE

Dear Members,
I will be the EO to organize the “Bollywood Nite”.  A suitable venue to host this event has been found. It is a dance studios called Mambo Dance Zone which is situated at the 4th floor of Golden Mile Shopping Center. It’s a good venue for 100 person with ample car park at the basement.
Spoken to the Manager Mr Frankie Tan and the details of rental only are as follows:
Weekdays: 2.30 to 6.30pm – $ 1000 & 7.30 to 12am – $1200
Weekends: 2.30 to 6.30pm – $ 1200 & 7.30 to 12am – $1400

Alternatively, we can book the studio for a minimum of 50 pax @ $20 per head. Of which $ 5 per head will go towards a buffet and the balance will go towards the rental of the studio. We can bring your own liquor/wine, but need to pay for corkage individually at $30/20.
Besides the dancing, the place can also be used to conduct a dance training for the night. The event can be held sometime in July or August 09. Date can be fixed once we can have the minimum of 50 members for the event.

A Bangala mix with Hindi music disco

Oooh, I just love to dream. I just got out from a dinner at a posh Dhaka social club and now into a local Bangladeshi disco. Located on the 19th floor, the disco is packed with some 100 bangladesh professionals, who are just unwilling to go home. The time is 1055pm. The music is Bangladesh mixed with Hindi. You won’t believe it but the singer is 35 year old, from Dhaka, and extremely sexy and entertaining. With one keyboard, and a tabla, the mood was just right for a disco. Reminds me of the Bollywood disco I went to in Goa. Here, all hairs down. And everybody were as close as a sandwich pair with only a piece of cheese in between. if you think there is a recession in Dhaka, then I would say this city is 6 months behind the rest of the world. Red sarries, fast tempo, oohs, hi my friend, dim lights and bangla mad drinks. Gosh, I had 6 doubles of black label whisky, so this may not make sense. But, in my restrained body, I am thinking and dreaming of a Indian Bollywood mixed with Bangladesh disco for all of us. The music is loud and fantastic. How, cannot express in English. Third SHC Dinner & Dance 2009- Update 3

 INVITATION FOR MEMBERS TO SHOWCASE THEIR SKILLS AND TALENTS

Most of our members have some skills or talents. SHC TALENT SHOW 2009 aims to showcase their less known skills and talents to the club in third SHC Dinner and Dance 2009 on 4th April 2009. The show will encourage the participants to improve and master their skills and talents to their best.

The show will be in 4 segments

  1. Dance Performance.  In addition to Social, Latin, Ballroom and Line dances, the show encourages our members to show their skill in 1. Indian (Bollywood) dance 2. Malay dance 3. Chinese dance 4. Perankan dance 5. Folk dance 6. Others. The dances may be solo , couple  or group dances.
  2. Song Rendition (to Disc music): Members, wanting to sing, have to bring their songs in disc. Normally singers sing to Cha Cha beat. In order to have variety of music beats and also to encourage the members to groove the music, we request members to sing to O/B cha cha, Disco, Rock&Roll, Jive, Square Rumba, Rhythm, Latin Rumba, Samba, Waltz, Tango etc beats. The songs may be solo, duet or group songs.
  3. Games: The members can organise games of their own choice or they can choose the games, our committee is having.
  4. Talent Show:  Playing any musical instruments, mimicry, stand-up comedy, magic, juggling, play, story-telling, demonstration of Yoga etc.

If there are more responses from members in one or more segments, the decision of the committee is final.

Only members who had registered and paid the D&D cost in full will be eligible for selection to participate in the segment when there is overwhelming response to participate in that segment.

In order to encourage more members to participate, preference will be given to group (three or more members) participation for example group dance, group singing.

  • Live Band: Live band with a vocalist. You can groove your bodies to the music of live band alone, with your partner or with a group.
  • Professional photo-shoot sessions, for members willing to pay. Arrangement is being made to bring a professional photographer from a prominent photo-studio (subject to good response from members). He will be stationed only at the counter in the venue to take pictures. Mercury Ballroom commands sweeping views of a lush tropical forest on one side and a resort-style swimming pool on the other side. Please see the map above in venue. Hence please do not lose the wonderful opportunity to take good pictures of you with your friends with nice scenery as prop for everlasting memory by using your own cameras.
  • Informal chit-chat during the intervals:  Hotel has agreed to allow our members to use the chairs near the swimming pool on the side of the Mercury Ballroom for informal chit-chat. Hence, members need not be sitting  inside the ballroom in their chairs during the entire duration of the event in a formal way. There will be intervals during the Mega Event of 8 hours. During the intervals, members can go out, get fresh air, and take lovely pictures with their friends and chit-chat with their friends
  • SHC TALENT SHOW 2009. A rare opportunity for the members to showcase their talents in this mega event. Talent Show will be in 4 segments. 1. Dance Performance 2.  Song rendition (to CD music) 3. Organising Game shows 4. Other Talents like playing any musical instruments, mimicry, stand-up comedy, magic, juggling, demo of yoga, play, etc. Another post will come shortly inviting members to participate and showcase their talents.
  • Make-over for members participating in the mega event. A beautiful and cheerful SHC member has kindly agreed to do the make-over.
  • Dance Workshop: Members having dancing experience or not, will be taught simple dance steps of popular dances.
  • Free parking at hotel car park (limited coupons only. First come , first serve policy)
  • BEST DANCING COUPLES:
  • BEST DRESSSED GUY AND BEST DRESSED LADY:  The dresses should suit the theme of the Nite.
  • Others: Dancing floor to dance away.

New Dancing Class : Bachata Elementary from 1st November 2008

Bachata is very easy to learn and fun to dance. No prior dancing is required.

The class starts from 1st November, Saturday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm at Jonathan & Peggi Dancing Studio, 4 minutes walk from Bugis Mrt Station.

Elementary Latin Rumba starts on November 7, 2008 (Friday)

Our Off Beat Cha Cha will end soon, look out for Latin Rumba.

Latin Rumba is known as the dance of love, it is a slow dance and can be learnt easily. Consider the most romantic, sensuous and versatile of all the Latin American dances. Ladies will learn to move sensuously and the gentlemen will lead and look good while dancing.

Venue:   Clementi CC, Clementi Avenue 4 (8 minutes from Clementi MRT)

DANCE FEVER – WHAT”S YOUR MOVE

F1 fever came and gone, with the howling of the sport-car engines piercing in the air still ringing in the ears, we, now have to settle down  more to earth of the dance fever coming in October at the Esplanade’s Forecourt.  Watch the various dances performing between October 9th to 19th, you may have the chance to get in the act and take to the floor.  Do you waltz or do the salsa?  Whatever your dance style, there’s something for everyone in this dance event.  Alice and I will see you there.

OB Cha Cha starts – Sep 12, 2008

We are never to old to wriggle our hips! Our lives are what we made it out to be. When there are beautiful music being played let’s harmonise by expressing ourselves in dancing and swaying into the moonlight!

Dance Jam night @ Kembagan CC – 31 Aug 08 Sun

Calling all dancing enthusiast.  Social dancers as well as line dancers.  Come on down to Kembagan CC on Sunday, 31st August 2008, 7pm till 10pm.  We’re having a practice session for social dance as well as line dance.  This CC is just beside the Kembagan MRT station.  Walk along a canal and you will see it.

Ron Wie & I are trying to form a performing team for the meeting on 15th October 2008.  So if you’re interested to be part of this performing team, make it a date with us.  Come for the first practice. 

PS> There will be a small fee of $3 per head to use the CC dance studio, for non members of the Kembagan Dance Club.
