Do u make your own Chinese New Year goodies? & would u sell any of your goodies to fellow SHCians?

Generally, SHC does not accept selling of products and services on this website.  This year, I think we shall give it a go, and see how organise or disorganise we can be if we allow the selling of CNY goodies on this website.

As long as you are a SHC member and make the goodies yourself, and that the goodies are not from a commercial organisation, you can use this website and take orders here.  You can state the prices and when and how to collect the goodies.  No tel numbers.  Email addresses are ok.

Can be kueh2, pineapple tarts, sponge cakes, "everybody’s birthday cake", roast cashew nuts, BBQ pork, etc.  Leave it to your imagination.  But, they have to be CNY goodies.

Please use only this Post.  This Post will close on 14 Feb 2010.

Another flea market and garage sale, before the year ends ?

There I go again.  Still enjoying my hospitalisation leave, and the mind is again drifting and dreaming.  We had a reasonably successful flea market some time last year.  At the time, we had about 12 tables, in town, on a weekend afternoon, attended by SHC members and passer-bys.

Thinking about it again, I was hoping we can do so again.  As usual, I dont have a place in mind, the date, the time or even how we should go about it.  However, I am hoping for a few options to surface.

1.  Someone who has a large enough place and who is prepared to open almost the whole day for interested members to display and sell their items.  Members would jaga their own items, and remove any unsold items at the end of the day.  No commercial items.

2.  Someone who knows an organisation prepared to let us use the compound for a day.

Do email me if you can assist in locating 1 or 2.

And, although we have not found a place yet or the cost or the date, please indicate your interest if you have something/s to sell; something you dont want to use, have more than enough at home.  Preference or priority will be given to members on a first come basis.

Pictures of SHC March gathering & 1st Flea Mart

The photographs of the Flea Mart are out.  Nice blue skies from late Sat afternoon to early evening.  Event Organiser:  LH Jie.  Spot anybody you know?  The Mar 2008 monthly gathering is also held at the same time.

Tell us what you think?  Should we hold the flea mart again?  Once a month, or once a year.  Any suggestions on improving this event.  Good comments or not so good comments, your feedback is important.  Same location, different location.  Same time or different days?

If we organise the SHC Flea Mart, would you participate?

This is an exercise to determine the degree of interest in the SHC Flea Mart.

We have not identified the venue, cost and date/time to launch the first SHC Flea Mart.  However, I think we should try to determine the degree of interest.  And, let’s also say we have the car boot sales running side by side.  If you have an idea to take part as a seller in the SHC Flea Mart, please add your name here.  If you have something in mind which you like to sell, please do indicate too.  And, make it fun.  If two persons like to share a spot, it’s fine too.  Do note the buyers would be the public, overseas visitors and SHC members.

Hope we can make this event a truly SHC grown project, and fulfil our objective to provide a platform to meet new and more friends.

Calling for experience in car boot or flea market sales

We had tried car boot sales but we failed because the venue was not approved. We also like to try flea market sales or push cart sales.

The idea is to give some SilverHairsClub members the opportunity to try ways and means to make some income and keep themselves active. I suspect and believe there are opportunities as a group. It can be organised during weekends, a festive period or even monthly basis.

Now, I am going to try again. Don’t give up. Mati Mati. Must succeed. As a group, we can succeed.

Do you have any experience organising or participating in car boot or flea market sales? If you have, plse raise your hand, and I shall contact you.

If you have a private condo, that will allow car boot sales or a garage sale or bazaar, plse raise your hands too. Let’s try it. It will cost some monies, but it can work.

Any ideas, most welcome. Let’s stay active, for fun, for the money or for the friendship.

Online Fleamart relaunched

The SHC website is not designed conveniently for members to sell their new or unwanted items, services, food items, rent their premises or sell their cars.  We have heard your feedback for some months; and the website is now relaunched.

Please feel free to advertise any product or services.  For example:

  1. Renting out your car on a daily or weekly basis.
  2. Offering home made food, bread or pastries.
  3. Conducting courses in finger massage, using the internet or learning Indonesia or how to bowl?
  4. Undersized dresses or clothes, which you no longer use.
  5. Toys, sofas, television, walking sticks, unwanted PCs, bags
  6. Renting or selling your 5-room apartment.
  7. Conducting hobbies classes, swimming, Chinese chess, etc.
  8. Anything.

This is open to the public, and not limited to SilverHairs.  So, please look into your store, or sell your skills and services.  Have fun!.

Winnie Lim and her cakes

Winnie Lim is definitely very resourceful.   I learnt from her about her entrepreneurship skills.  And, I feel she is one member who will continue to be active through her SilverHairs years.  I wish that some of us will learn from her.

She is really into cakes.  I was surprised at the different types of cakes she can make. Get to know her. Find out more about the cakes she can make.

For SilverHairs who are into cake, cookies, chocolates and bread making, and selling them, let us know.  We would like to promote your skills and hobbies.

When you are spring cleaning your home or office

Look around for that something you dont want in your house or office.  It could be a nice dress which has grown too big for you now.  Or a carpet you have been keeping in your store for a long time.  Or a car which you have been advertising to sell for some time.  Maybe a fish tank, books, toys or hifi sets which have taken too much space.

Before the Chinese New Year spring cleaning, look around.  And if you dont want an item, someone else might want it.  Put it up for sale at our online fleamart.  Add a picture. It helps.

“NET” Learning

I’m available to guide a group of 6 members in "NET" learning on Sat, 7 Oct 06 from 10am to 12pm or latest, session should end before 1pm.

Participating members can also bring along their if they have to make up for the shortfall.

Members who have confirmed their participation are : Chow Weng, Ronald Lee, Kenneth Tan, Margaret Wu, Jeffrey Fong and Catherine Yeo. Please email to lohyks@hotmail.com with name, email and phone contact. Thank you.

Seats for this session have all been taken up. Chow Weng will coordinate with you guys shortly to confirm venue.

Contents of learning / sharing session in brief for information – 1) Introduction to online transactions and yahoo.com.sg as the market place. 2) registration of accounts with yahoo.com.sg for non account users. 3) demonstration of doing an advertisement as seller on website follows by hands on. 4) demonstration of transactions by seller and buyer follows by hands on. 5) sumup discussion.

Now, we are looking for places.  This is the tough part.  Would you have suggestions on where we can host some of these courses.  If we are unable to find places, then we may have to look for cafes with internet wireless access, and participants may have to bring own notebooks.  Keep the options open.

Volunteers to teach “Selling/Auctions on the internet”

This repeats a Post by Terence on 3 Aug 06. It says "We have a few volunteers to teach and coach this topic.  There might be some of you who would like to offer the same service.   if you are experienced in selling on ebay, Yahoo or other auction sites, and willing to spend some time with other SilverHairs who may be interested, please raise your hands here.  Those with online payment experience also appreciated.
The small group would form among themselves in max 6 people.  The location will be their apartment/house, and they would have their own PC, broadband and digital camera.  Session 2 hours.
So, if you would like to volunteer, raise your hands here.  Hopefully, you will get to meet new friends too with common interests."

So far, 5 members had responded to do or assist in the teaching  with only 11 responded to learn. To all other members who wish to learn, dont feel shy to come forward and put your names here. We dont want you to be left behind in the digital divide.

2GreenDots – 1st step

Annie and Silverhairs,

I have been following up with your ideas on small business for yourself and Silverhairs.  Also, from our various gatherings, I see that many Silverhairs are looking out for something to do.  Annie, Veron, Yew Kwong, KC and Linda, you have provided the neucleus to get this idea moving for the club.

We can make this possible for all of us, and we have plans and resources to promote these ideas.  As a result of the many meetings in the last few months, we have got someone in India to design up a website.  This is an internet shopping mall site for Silverhairs.  It is called 2GreenDots.com.

2GreenDots (funny name) is now a working site, 99% ready.  We start fresh today.

For SilverhairsClub, the design team has also thought of something different from typical internet shopping malls.  This is the specialty shops, which Silverhairs can use.  Silverhairsclub members can have a shop name of his/her own.

Examples,
Annie Loh can have "Annie’s Jewellery",
Yew Kwong can have "Yew Kwong IT shop",
Linda Chong can have "Linda’s Corner",
Sophia can have "Sophia cook books",
Veron Chua can have "Veron office services",
KC Lau can have "KC computer shop"n
Patrick Yeo can have "Patrick’s tourism outlet",

Every registered Silverhairs can have a shop in 2GreenDots shopping mall.

Restrictions:
2GreenDots shopping mall will be moderated.
Strictly no messages eg Make instant money, MLM ads, duplicate advertising, fishing ads.
Ads which are related to politics, phonography, racial are prohibited.  These ads will be removed.

All services available in 2GreenDots.com are free to SilverHairsClub members.

To start:
Prepare your own pictures on your PC.
Go into 2GreenDots.com
Register yourself, need your email address.
Upload your pictures, and write your own description.

2GreenDots is new, recently conceptualised, so we give it a go.  We set a target date for every shop to be running by end July 2006.  The quicker you prepare your products and services, the better.  Official launch date is 1 Jan 2007.

So, if you have your own products and services, and like to so through 2GreenDots, please send me an email, indicating your name of shop.  The website designer will then add your shop name to the site.  Closing date:  10 July 2006.

Have fun, and as I said before, Silverhairs years can be meaningful and exciting.  Like many of you, I am a firm believer that retirement is something we look forward to, but with today’s economic conditions, some level of economic activity can keep us through our SilverHairs years.  A healthy Silverhairs lifestyle eg walking and cycling is essential too.

SHC Flea Mart

Transferred to this category, for convenience.  Previously, the name was "SHC Garage sale 2006".

As we get into our SilverHairs years, friends become even more important.  And, new friends need to be developed.  The club encourages creativity among SilverHairs.  In March 2006, on a Sunday, we will organise a garage sale.  Place, date and time will be advised.  If you have a place to hold this garage sale, please write your suggestion here.

Strictly for SilverHairsClub members only.  No commercial items. You will be given a given one square metre space to place your garage sale items.   So, if you have any items you like to sell off, remember we have this date in March.

An event organiser will lead this activity.

Interested to have a space, please place your name here. No charge for space.

If you have something that you do not want, and that someone else may like to have, simply reply and put your item here. SilverHairsClub leaves it entirely up to both parties to connect on any item put up in this category.

By Asian living standards, Singapore families do enjoy a better lifestyle than many others around us. Some of us do have the good things in life eg toys for our children, English and Chinese books for the kids, spare radios and TVs, kitchen utensils, used spectacles we longer put on, and unwanted dresses, pants and T shirts.

I do carry them to Thailand, and give them to poorer families. If your family has something unwanted in the store room, and you would like to give them to someone who would need them, please SMS/email me. Thank you.

Hi Everyone, As my present flat is being placed on the market for sale, I need to accumulate cash to pay for rental of new place and also there would be no space in the. As such, I would be selling quite a few items. To start off, I am selling my Akita chest freezer. I bought it for $300 a few years ago and it is still in good condition. Interested parties may contact me for viewing and offer.

Currently, we are looking for a place to hold a garage sale. But, I see garage sale is a luke-warm activity. Guess, maybe this is not something silverhairs like to do. This activity is intended to promote the getting to know one another, and promote team spirit among the Silverhairs.

We will prepare to send out news update, and if the numbers are sufficient, we shall go ahead. Keep in touch.

Terence, Yes, it appears that a garage sale is not attracting attention. Perhaps we should change or rename it “Flea Market”. This would imply that anything under the sun which are moveable/portable can be sold. Besides, people who have hobbies like handicraft, paintings etc can also try selling their “works” if they wish to apart from sales of second hand or used items.

    Hi Terence,

How about having “Flea Market” on line. Since there are constraints in finding the location and then the trouble of moving the used items to and fro.

Afterall, it is only restricted to our members only. Why not our members post their used items here and vice versa members can post what they are looking for here as well(example:David is looking for P4 computer}. Also those who wish to giveaway some freebies are also encourage to post here.

Members can communicate each other to view the items

However, the rules and regulations need to be implemented, mainly to avoid dispute between the sellers and buyers over the sold items (example:Pricing and Warranty, etc…)

    Only my suggestion.

    Regards

    Patrick Yeo

I take in unwanted (both working and non-working) computers and computer stuff through donation. I will also buy if they are cheap and affordable to salvage components which are then reused. These computers are eventually refurbished to full working state before distributing them to needy families/people. You can get one from me if you cant afford to own one but not in full set. Just the CPU. Monitor, keyboard, mouse and speaker have to buy on your own.

I like the Bee Gees. Will collect during May gathering. Thank you.
