Calling all with unusual hobbies and collections

Silver Lining is a bi-monthly magazine that caters largely to readers aged above 45. One of the regular articles
it features are on people with unusual hobbies or collections. The current issue (Apriil – May 2010) features a quirky old SHC geezer who does origami with one hand, and his collection of more than 500 origami books from all corners of the world.

The magazine is looking for more folks with other unusual hobbies or collections to be featured in forthcoming issues. If you have an unusual hobby or collections or know of someone who has, they would love to hear from you.

I have agreed to be Silver Lining’s unpaid contact person for this purpose. To address possible concerns, this message was posted after obtaining prior clearence from Terence.

Best regards,

Ron Koh

Thanks for support for my last event. Eventhough only 7 members has officially registered, many members including my good friend and our handsome Stage Mangager Thomas Loh came to the event.

Three members have sang with live band.

I received few feedbacks from members and conveyed those to organiser. The organiser has revised the terms and conditions.

1. Singer must be a SHC member.

2. Interested members have to register with me via email (francisemail@yahoo.com)

3. If there are many interested members, then there will be a rehersal for apporoval as dancing is important with correct rhythm of the singers.

4. Please note there will be no audition this time.

5.Interested members agree to pay fees for the rehersal. The rehearsal fee is S$30/-(Thirty dollars only) per hour. The fee will be shared equally by all the members, coming for rehearsal.

6.The decision of the organiser on the selection of members is final.

Do u make your own Chinese New Year goodies? & would u sell any of your goodies to fellow SHCians?

Generally, SHC does not accept selling of products and services on this website.  This year, I think we shall give it a go, and see how organise or disorganise we can be if we allow the selling of CNY goodies on this website.

As long as you are a SHC member and make the goodies yourself, and that the goodies are not from a commercial organisation, you can use this website and take orders here.  You can state the prices and when and how to collect the goodies.  No tel numbers.  Email addresses are ok.

Can be kueh2, pineapple tarts, sponge cakes, "everybody’s birthday cake", roast cashew nuts, BBQ pork, etc.  Leave it to your imagination.  But, they have to be CNY goodies.

Please use only this Post.  This Post will close on 14 Feb 2010.

The World of Origami

We were having tea at Bamboo Villa that day with Jane Kee and Lisa Ong.
Origami was Jane’s  passion, thus would like to share the art with fellow SHCians.
Welcome other orgamists to contribute too.

Workshop agenda: Crane, Fish, Rabbit, Tulip, Frog – 3 types among others.   Objects folded with paper and styrofoam cutting will be on displayed.

Featuring some SHCians in a seniors lifestyle magazine

We have been requested by a seniors lifestyle magazine Silver Lining to feature some of our talented SHCians.  Two SHCians have been identified, and they are Jane Kee and Ron Koh.  Jane’s talent in producing colourful paper flowers from magazine sheets.  Ron  Koh is also a talented origamist in Singapore, and while he is now with a stroke, he is recovering fast.  He hopes to join SHC activities when he gets in better shape.

They will be interviewed by the magazine soon, and we look forward to seeing the published work soon.

The Westerlies wind is blowing. January 30, 2010

The idea has been brought forth by Rosalind and Terence and some others. We had some territorial group formed before but it faded off into the horizon!

Before the Easterlies came up with some show, the Westerlies want to be the first to jump up the bandwagen. Those who are from the West may show your interest here. We would need to locate a place to meet or possibly a member’s home, whether for lunch or dinner?

New members are encourage to come forward and we look forward to hear all your suggestions!

Craft Day

Hi All

If free with nothing to do on Sun 15 Nov, drop by at my condo flat to participate in or just watch artists at work. It’s a very informal gathering and perhaps a chance to meet SHCians who I haven’t met or to meet up again.

Two art classes are organised: Starting at 1 pm – 3 pm is a Batik Painting course which is of 2 parts, with the 2nd part from 3.30 – 6.30 pm. From 3 – 6 pm is Painting on small brush or mirror. Both classes are taught by art teachers who are friends of mine.

If you are interested to learn other things or perhaps to get a designer to do flyers, wedding cards or a collage of your photos for your travels etc, you may be able to meet people who can assist you.

Just let me know so that I’m aware of the number coming. You can email me at joanwong2002@hotmail.com  ( after 4 Nov as I’m back in S’pore then).

Cheers

Joan (Perth)

Batik Painting for Beginners

Hi All

This is prompted by Jassmine’s post on Barter …… and the suggestions that she raised. I believe that some had shown interest in my earlier post of opening my place for learning activities but then changed my mind. The reason was chiefly I spend very little time in Singapore and therefore unable to manage any activities held there. I hope to be able to manage this better with some help and my longer presence back.

Those who wish to visit my place to see if they like to conduct things there can let me know.

To kick off this is the first activity:

Course: 4 hr Batik Painting for beginners

Dates: Nov 8 & 15 ( 9 – 11 am) or Nov 22 (  8am – 12nn)

Fee: $40

Regards

Joan

Venue: my condo flat

Afternoon classes can be arranged instead.

The Flea Mart is back cum the Monthly Gathering-October 31, 2009

Dear folks,

When we decided on the Flea Mart, i kaypo want to include the Games Day and include Mahjong competition but it just didn’t tickle your bones! Then we got the idea how about having a Carnival Day and having a jam session, again we have lukewarm response. Mati lah how to go ahead we have fixed cost to worry about! The caterer insists on one hundred pax for us to enjoy a good rate, now I ‘gabra’, cannot sleep and started counting sheep, still no help!

Next day I got a bright idea, how about Flea Mart and Monthly Gathering? No need to worry about food catering, we got Ya Kun to the rescue!

So die die this event is on and I apologised to fellow members and those who booked a booth I gave up too easily. I wanted to run and hide and go into hibernation, but have nowhere to hide! Now you all know why the EO always want to bang his head on the wall!

So, dear folks mark this day on your calendar and come give us your support!

Flea Mart from 1.00pm – 9.00pm/Monthly Gathering from 5.00pm-9.00pm

Venue: Safra Mount Faber (Multi-purpose Hall air-conditioned)
