Cycling Caught On ……

I ride very regularly n at least twice a week usually in the early morning and occasionally, on Friday night until early Saturday morning. Most times, I cycle on the road.

Am just thinking there are like-minded people like me who like to do the same but have no kakis or company 2 go along with. Or perhaps like to build up confidence riding on the road. Here comes the opportunity to have you to be part of this group.

The criteria you must have are – own bike, helmet, front n rear lights. If possible, a spare inner tube in event of puncture (this is prefer because tires come in different sizes). Bikes can be marketing, foldable, racing, mountain or delivery types. Should you have thoughts of changing your present bikes, that can come later after you have better your riding experiences. Importantly NO HELMET, NO FRONT and REAR LIGHTS = NO RIDE. Lights are for alerting motorists on the road of your presence n helmets are for protection.

The route will vary, could start from any point in the West n end in the East n return. You can join in or end at any point along the route. Distance varies but pace will be kept between 15 to 20 kmph (comfortable and leisure). This is equivalent to the pace you are doing at normal monthly cycling. The ride will likely be fixed on 2nd or 4th Friday nite of each month. Frequency will be increase as demand goes.

For info, this Route is firm –

Queenstown > River Valley Road > Hill Street > High Street > Esplanade > Nicoll Highway > Stadium Road > Tanjong Rhu > Fort Road (15 km)

Fort Road > ECP > Coastal Road > Changi Village (20 km)

We like to hear from you that you are coming to join us.

YK (your riding companion)

More Cycling Events In The Coming Mths

Cycling is a sports that is fast becoming popular among both young n old. Probably thanks 2 our Asian counterpart, the Chinese comrades. Bicycle ownership is also affordable as prices are coming down n wif so many different types n styles, we can easily buy one off the shelf. Wif bicycles, we can convenient ride 2 places where public transport can’t bring us 2 its doorsteps. We are also able 2 explore, venture n discover the many places we have never or not been 2.

Towards the mid year we see 2 Events on the coming –

1) NRWCS, National RunWay Cycling n Skating on Sun, 21 Jun 09 n

2) Cycling & Walk @ Hong Kah Town on Sun, 12 Jul 09

More info available here –

If u are keen, go ahead n sign up. Take care of the training part later. More than enuf time 2 prepare.

If u believe u want 2 do something different this year, likely owning a bike n conquering some "km", please feel gd 2 do so. What u need is 2 train by doing more practices. Believe me, your world will change.

We will have practices every week starting this Sat. The route – ECP 2 Changi Village n back (est 30km+) either going on PCN or Coastal Rd. Distance is fixed but timing (pace or speed) changes as the practices go.

NATIONAL RUNWAY CYCLING AND SKATING 2008

Hi Cycling Kakis

May 25 was the annual National Runway Cycling and Skating 2008, held at Paya Lebar Air Base.

7 die hard participants from SHC signed up and completed the 15km leisure ride at the air base. The magnificent 7 started the day at 6am, was at the airbase gate for security clearance by 7am and the event proper kicks off around 8.15am.

The runway cycling was crowded, the weather was fine and hot. After completing the ride around the airbase, we joined in the carnival, make some purchases and left the airbase around 11am.

Boon Liang, could you send some fotos for us to download so that members could view the events held at the airbase

For next year, we would like to see more participants from SHC

Until than, Cheers

Have passport will ride, Sat 12 April 2008- UPDATE

Hi Terence and all bike lovers,

There are some  bike lovers from SHC who feel cycling once a month is not enough. To these group of bike lovers, how about cycling from Tg Pengarang to Kg Sungei Rengit.  emoticonThis route will brings us back to nostalgic era of 1960s Singapore. emoticon     It could be an unforgettable and a memorable ride for some of us. The trill and joy will be rewarded at journey’s end.  The atmosphere will always be remembered for a long time.  The return journey is about 36km,  emoticon  a distance slightly less than from McDonald @ECP to Changi Village and back.

Upon arrival at Sungei Rengit, we may have seafood for lunch, walk around the town, maybe buy some dry seafood products or freshly baked tau sar piah.  emoticon   Sungei Rengit to Dasaru is but a short distance. emoticon
