SHC BBQ at Changi Beach Park on Sat 19 July 2014 (CANCELLED)

bbq4bbq3bbq2 bbq1  The last BBQ we had at Changi Beach Park gave us the impetus to hold another BBQ at the same place.

This time, we shall hold this event together with the Cycling group, led by Douglas Chan.

The venue will be at the same Pit as the last. Not sure if it was pit 4 or 5. The car park is a few minutes to the pit. The bus stop is also a few mins to the pit.  Now confirmed at PIT # 5.

The BBQ at Changi Beach Park will enable members to mingle around, and enjoy the breeze and fresh air.

Meantime, please keep this date, Sat 19 July in your diary. I need someone to help me book the same pit as the last, as I am now travelling and payment has to be made at Sam Post.  Pit booking done.

Due to transportation difficulties, all participants to bring their own drinks, beer or coloured water.  You can bring your own mat or foldable chair, if you wish to sit down.

Virtual SilverHair Co-operative

When I first retired from my full time job age 50 with NTUC, I wanted to set up a co-operative for Seniors but was put off as I had an attractive offer to work in China. Now that I am jobless and believe time in on my side .

I believe in pooling  members ‘ existing resources  to work for the success of this co-operative. I do not believe in asking members to contribute money towards this set-up. No body is to bleed for the failure of this misadventure.

Many retirees spend on all forms of necessities- which forms the revenue of  this co-operative. As this co-operative taps on the facilities provided by SHC enterprise- a 3% on revenue sales is provided as a constribution. All resources provided by members will be awarded in monetary gains. Details of rewards will be outlined as we roll out programme.

I have plans for  Tour programme -(A) Spore-Pengerang-Spore (B) Spore-kukup-Spore. we will develop other packages as times go by. The details of (A) as follows :

Spore-Pengerang-Spore Tour 1                          Spore-Pengerang-Spore Tour 2

8.30 am – Assemble at pick-up point                   8.30 am – Assemble at Changi Ferry T 8.45 am – Cars leave via causeway                    8.45 am – By Boat to Tg Pengelin Ter 10.00am- Arrived lago land/shoppingComp       10.00am – At Pengerang walk  around 12.30am -Lunch at Farm house/others              12.30pm – Lunch at Kg Sungai Rengit 2.30pm  – Tour around Sungai Rengit                                  and tour around                  3.oopm  – drop passengers at Jetty to                3.15 pm – Pick up Tour 2 passengers                       ferry home                                                           heading for  JB shopping         By 5.00pm –  Those intend to stay a night           6.00 pm –  Dinner is optional at own

The resources require to make this tour successfully depends on members car pooling, as well as salesmanship. Sales commission 5%. Car driver get  $ 140 ( travel by Taxi to kampong Sungai Rengit from JB is S$ 70).

I intend to price this tour package at S$88 (all inclusive except Lago Land entry fee) per pax..Any suggestion to charge higher are welcome. Under this win-win arrangement. As participant- you have the comfort of travelling in private car. As a participated Driver-you have ( S$140-88 ) S$ 55.00 appreciation fees.

Opinion poll : How about each passenger pay S$ 75 transport to Participate Driver for Genting / Malacca Trip ?

Picnic by the sea, with potluck, no program in plan – 26 April Sat in April Monthly gathering

picnic6Pguitaristpicnic2 picnic5

(Click on the pictures for a better enlarged view)

Most of us love to have friends whom we can get together.  We all love activities.  We want to join activities. And we want to meet new people and catch up with old friends. Since the Club started, I have always love to see SilverHairs meet up with other old SilverHairs, and meet new ones too. Let’s see how fast this program catch up with our membership.

First of all, I have found a place to hold a beachside potluck.  I accidentally found the place while doing an evening walk.  There are new BBQ pits around.  It is located somewhere in Changi, near some river mouth.  There is a jetty nearby, with some boats there, to ferry people to the islands.  The place looks new.  I have seen many Malay families gather there with tents, home cook food, doing cycing there.

I like to organise a big picnic there,  Once I have identified the place, I shall indicate the date and the time, likely an afternoon 2-6 pm.  And, of course, if my diary is free from any travel. Likely date:  within April 2014. Somehow, I had cut down my travel after the MH370 issue.  No program, food or drinks has been planned.  Let’s build the program from here.

All members are invited.  Non-members are also invited.

  1. Members – $10
  2. Non-members – $15
  3. If you cook a dish for 4-5 people (not buy) eg curry, stew, I shall discount $8
  4. If you bake a cake, or make a dessert for at least 4-5 people (not buy), I shall discount $8.
  5. If you lead an activity eg a singalong, I shall discount $5.
  6. If you register yourself personally for this event, there is a discount of $1.
  7. If you bring along another member or non-member of the opposite sex, there is a discount of 10%.

Let’s start.  Run wild with your ideas.  If ok, I shall say yes, If no, I shall say no within 24 hours.

Update:

  • Date:  Sat 26 April 2014
  • Venue:  Changi Beach Park
  • Exact location:  Carpark A, near BBQ pit 6
  • Time:  1400 hours to 1800 hours.

If we can get away together for 3 days 2 nights in Malaysia (Mersing) ~ 21 – 23 February 2014 (TRIP CANCELLED)

fishing-clip-art-6     party-clip-art-beach-party-palm-sun    party-clip-art-dancing-rock-color

Again, another dream,  a get-away from Singapore, in Johore perhaps.

After the trip to Yangon, I am wondering again how we can get together to relax, breathe some fresh air, enjoy Malaysian culture, see its beautiful beaches, experience local food and most important of all, to get to know more SilverHairs friends.  I think  a 3 D 2 N somewhere, leaving on a Fri early morning and returning on a Sun night may be just it.

Taichi masters, chess players, those who can cook and share their cooking skills among fellow ladies and guys, slow walks and hikes, spend time by the beach, cycling among the villages, line dancing in the afternoon, social dancing in the night and learning mobile and computer applications can come together.  Come share your skills and knowledge, and more members will know you.

We can take the Transnational coach, all the way to the destination, talk and scream all the way to our destination and before we realize it, we are there.  We head north east. Rain or shine, we go.  We paint the town green. We would limit this trip to 40 pax or the max number the coach can take us.  Of course, it will be fun, and we can allow those who drive to come along too.

The dates are not fixed.  There is no program yet.  It could be held in Dec, Jan or Feb.

But I do know we need the following:

  • 1.  Someone who knows how to take the coach from Lavender to Mersing via Transnational.
  • 2.  Some one to coordinate the 3D 2N program.
  • 3.  And, if you have skills and hobbies, and wish to share during the trip, please hands up.
  • 4.  And anyone who wishes to help bring members together, we have some thing for you.  About time if you have been too quiet.

Thank you to the members who help me piece this concept together.

Even if you have not checked your diary, if you are interested in breathing fresh air and getting to know new and old members better, simply put your name here.  Once the dates are announced, you may withdraw within 7 days, if the dates are not suitable to you.

The trip will be from 21 – 23 February 2014.

This event is strictly for members only.

Nearest MRT: HarbourFront CC29, Exit B.
ECs for this walk:  Charles Wee and ChristinaCL Chan

Join us in this last walk of 2013…  to a place filled with war history
nuggets and beauty! preserved, retained, yet seamlessly merged
with modern ammenities to provide a haven for all to enjoy.

Let the sounds of music from the sea;
the songs from a variety of feathered species;
the cool of sea breeze; the flutter of wings;
the beauty of a variety of blooms;
bring to you, a sense of calm and rest!

We will transverse along the coastline from man-made boardwalk into the
forest, filled with historical relics – an open-air museum that showcased
underground bunkers and gun batteries from WW II.

The surrounding area projects peace and solitude that brings a sense of
relief and thankfulness that the guns had ceased fire long ago and battles
are no longer fought!        {sigh}

The sight of artists capturing the gorgeous views over the sea;
fishermen preparing their fishing baits or trying their luck,
families and friends enjoying, yet another natural oasis.

With a panoramic view, it is indeed “THE place to watch sunset!”

Let us linger for a moment along the coastal front, be soothed, be lulled by
the wonders of nature and revel in this scenic view of vast sea and greenery…

Dine & Home Sweet Home will be in the Nature Reserve itself – Eco Gourmet Cafe comes highly recommended OR next to Labrador MRT (CC27) Alexandra Retail Centre(ARC) with a selection of Japanese/Chinese restaurants; Komala’s, cafes, etc

14 – 17 Nov 2013 – UPDATE from previous post – ECO CYCLING ADVENTURE – Kuching

Date: 14th to 17th November 2013

Are you looking for a cycling adventure with a distinct difference?

Green on Bikes!!! Nothing is quite like touring on bike for an ecological, cultural, culinary and experiential experience!!!!

We synergize with the hotel and a team with the best of local knowledge and an insatiable passion for cycling to envision and provide adventurous experience in SARAWAK.  With moderate, achievable riding on charming small roads through village communities and lots of local interaction, you will have a chance to learn about the country and the people who live here. Food is a highlight.

Fortunately, cycling offers a low-impact form of physical activity that appeal to a wide range of the population. As long as you’re reasonably fit and familiar with your own limits, you’re a good candidate for a cycling adventure.

Soon, it will be Singapore’s National Day 2013

Where will you be during National Day?  This time, it looks like we have a long weekend, and many members will be away with friends and families.  Many Singaporeans will also be here, and trying to get a glimpse of the parade, either on TV or try to get a seat infront of the parade.  Others would try to find a place to see the fireworks.

I read in the papers you can get a room at the Trafalgar Hotel for SGD 800 a night.  Still others can find a place at some rooftops facing the marina bay.  I thought the Marina Bay food court with a good frontage, facing the bay, is also good, until somebody told me I have to queue from 3pm.  And, maybe cannot sit too long.

Do you have an office facing the bay? or some secret hideout, not known to many people. Share with us where you will be on National Day night.

Which National Day song do you like? and we will play for you and your friends.

Terence Seah

What i like to see happening at the Club?

We may have voice this before but I feel it time to hear it again and better still if someone take the initiatives.

A matter close to my heart is to start a Mandarin speaking session for those wanting to improve their Mandarin conversation with one another.

The other idea is to start a Book Club for those avid readers who want to share their passion for reading and to encourage one another with setting goal to read more books.

As with any concern, just to put up a post can be life threatening. We worry for the responses, we worry how is the reaction and we just worry worry.

Give your encouragement here and if there is enough show of hands I will buck up and do something.

Dan
