Andrew Chee – Profile

Hi Terence Seah and All Members of SilverHair’s Club,

My name is Andrew Chee and I am 46 years of age. I am glad to know that there is such a club with activities to encourage each other to be active when we grow older in age.

My interest is basically, like to eat, go for movies and watching English League/Champion League football matches. Occassionally, I do voluntary work with the Care Cancer Society, for their events.

My activities is family and works. I had went for a short term golf training (just to have some swing). Previously, my activities is bowling, cycling, badminton, table tennis and basketball. Now, lacking in stamina due to my heavy weight – in short, I am fat.

Comments – I can feel identified myself with you all in this SilverHair’s Club. It is good to encourage each of us to exercise and to live healthily and happily.

Thank you.

Like to join me for a swim at Changi Beach Club Sun 14 June?

I needed some trial sunshine, before a 7-hole golf game on Monday.  Have not been in Singapore over the weekends for sometime; and so I suddenly have this crave to swim this Sunday.  If you like to swim, bring your trunks or costumes, and I shall see you there.  Please register her, to avoid give me shocks.

  • Place:  Changi Beach Club.
  • Date: Sun 14 June
  • Time: 0900 – 1200 hrs.
  • Entrance: on me
  • Food:  There is no food sold at that time, so if you can tuck something for yourself, great.  if you cannot, I shall get packet nasi lemak.
  • Bring suntan lotion, towel, swim wear.

No one goes there on Sunday morning, so you can come and parade yourself.  Take a good Sunday morning relaxation.  This is an Olympic size pool, so you can get lost in the water.  Coming, let me know here.

SHCians’ Permanent Rotational retirement-cum-holiday Home

  Dear Friends

A Permanent Rotational retirement-cum-holiday Home for SHCians means, Silverhairsclub secure a term-period lease of say 3months, 6months, 12months or more on houses/apartments/hotel rooms any pre-registered SHCian can visit/stay at anytime or during the whole lease period.  This Home must be affordable in Reach as well as in Rent which mean the place should not be too far away from Spore and accomondation is not expensive and the Home’s location can be rotated in locations of our neighbouring countries, specifically Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand and with uninterrupted leasing-accomondation.

This Permanent Rotational retirement-cum-holiday Home should provide sleeping quarters for up to Twenty Scians at any one time.  Thus, the Home can be a cluster of a few houses/apartments/hotel rooms.  If more than One Hundred SHCians are willing to sign-up for such a project, this Permanent Rotational retirement-cum-holiday Home (PRRHH) can materialise.

My take is Malaysia is the most ideal PRRHH due to near-absolute similarities between us.  Peninsular Thailand is also ideal vis-a-vis Betong, Songklah, Rayong & Hua Hin.  A comparatively cheaper lifestyle will be the Indonesian Riau Islands which my personal choice is Kundur Island(main town, Tanjung Batu) which is 2hours due west of Batam.

My perception is many retirees would wish to take a "break" every quarter say for a holiday sojourn of between 2weeks to 6weeks.  A PRRHH would definitely meet our needs.

Regards
Abel Tan

Be an EO, at least once in the term of your membership in SHC

This has always been the concept of SHC.  Event Organisers come from with the membership, and activities are organised with the sole objective of providing a platform for members to meet new ad more friends.  As you have seen in recent years, we have a number of EOs who have contributed their time and effort to organise activities for fellow members.

If each of us make effort to organise one event, and be the EO, we will have enough activities to last the lifetime of the club.  If you had enjoyed some of the activities, please consider organsing one for your friends around. It’s a good return of your heart if you enjoy the activities so far.

Keep strictly out of politics, sex, religion, race, direct selling and MLM.  Do keep out advertising and promotions of external companies and non-members.

Thailand a place for 3-mths short-term retirement

I would like to start a topic on short-term retirement in one of our neighbouring countries.  And, as I plan to spend most of my retirement time in Thailand, I would love to see more SilverHairs considering Thailand as one of the locations.  Do note I am not encouraging you to migrate.  Singapore is our home.  I hope others who are familiar with neigbouring countries and who are familiar with the country and wish to take the lead to do likewise, a new Post on that country.

Thailand is a great tourist place, but this post would not dwell on shopping, holidays and eating.  Your travel agent can take care of that.  Of course, in discussing short term retirement, we can cover medical, residence, retirement visa, acceptance by the community, friends, costs and enjoying the country.

Of course, some of us are critical of the country for various reasons.  In this case, Thailand is not for you.  If you are positive, join this forum, and I believe we can exchange good information.

“BOLLYWOOD NITE”

“BOLLYWOOD NITE”

Greetings to all SHC members,
My apologies for the delay on the "Bollywood Nite" event.
I eventually managed to find a good venue called “SITARA Restaurant & Lounge” which is located at Serangoon Road, just opposite MUSTAFA Centre. It is a 5minutes walk from Farrer Park MRT station and there are several buses going to the venue. There is a car park available for the patrons of the restaurant.  The charges will be $25 per pax  (minimum 30 pax and max 70 pax) for the whole lounge which comes with a DJ, music and dance floor. The charges include a North Indian buffet (Veg and non–veg dishes) and with a free flow of soft drinks.

The only problem is that we can only use it from 4 to 9pm as it will be open to the public after 9pm. Members who want to stay on after, will be welcomed to do so and will need to purchase their own drinks. I will post the buffet menu online by Thursday.

In the meantime, please feel free to give your comments and feedbacks if any. I would also appreciate if you revert on your interest for this event so that I can proceed to organize it upon getting 30 members and more. I further propose that we hold this event on a Saturday, sometime in July or Aug 09, so as to accommodate to the early timing offered by the restaurant management.

Dolly, would appreciate if you could help me check our events calendar for an appropriate date for this event.  Once the date is confirmed, I would like to start collecting our individual shares and book the lounge in advance.

I would also like to set up an organizing committee so as to make this event a success. Positions for Secretary, Treasurers and Games Organisers are open. If you would like to assist me and organise the event, please email me at gengha_n@yahoo.com.    Awaiting your favourable replies.
Thank you.

Welcome to Adonai Spaghetti & Dessert

Italian Mee Rebus! Yes, this is what ADONAI is serving!

Inspired by my partner’s vast knowledge of Pasta preparation in 300 over varieties, I  decided to give a try on a small scale of Pasta dishes in a Coffee shop concept.
Affordable and value for money, you can expect fresh ingredients and a flavour-filled experience with every mouthful.

ADONAI has also connected Dessert into the stall.   Nothing beats a yummy coffee shop fare with prices range from as good as $2.00 onwards.  Though a coffee shop, but a good place for fellowship or meeting up for discussion as well as gathering.

Do give your SHCian fellowmate support to this new birth of ADONAI situated at Roxy Square 1 #01-64, Stall 6…operates 7 days a week from 8:30 am to 6 pm.

Some of my recommended and top selling items :

Carbonara Linguine (top with either Chicken Roll, Salmon, Chipolata, Garlic Prawns, Fungi)
Aglio Olio; (top with either Chicken Roll, Chipolata, Prawns, Fungi)
Spaghetti Bolognese; Spaghetti Meatballs; Spaghetti Lebus Prawns
Spaghetti cooked with Black Pepper Sauce or Thai Sauce top with either Fried Fish or Fried Chicken
Good Try on Pine Nut Pesto Spinach or Tomato

A meal never complete with a taste of Mango Sago; Durian Sago or Peach Sago BETTER STILL, try our Mango Sago with Pomelo and what more with Durian topping, Whoo! Lots more…do drop by and have a try!

Personal Notes :
I have been so blessed to have my very supportive SHC bowlers that have made special arrangement among them to patronize my stall on Vesak Day!  Thank you all my beloved bowlers!

Frankly speaking, i was rather nervous going to Han’s on 12/5/09 not knowing what type of people I’m going to meet and whether i’d be awkwardly sitting alone in a corner….but luckily, the reality is not so. People are very friendly and warm. I enjoyed the gathering and made many new friends. It’s a great honor to meet the founder Mr. Terence Seah, Manager Dolly Lim. I’d like to thank Lilian Teo, Lena Ho, Jane Tan, Laura Wee, Richard Yee, Shirley Wee, Thomas Loh, Jane Loh for making me feel welcome as well as Paul & Peggy Kong for giving Pearl Goh – another 1st timer and myself a lift home.

I like travelling (been backpacking on my own to many countries in my late 20’s), sports (all sort of ball games), reading and mind boggling games (e.g mahjongemoticon).

I’m married with 1 lovely daughter (sec 3), not so handsome husband and living in the east with a poodle named Julia. Still need to work to bring roti onto the table but during my spare time (which is a lot – thanks to my well paid, flexible hour jobs) i do volunteer work at schools/RC etc (count on me if you need someone to help).

Besides English & Mandarin, I speak fluent Malay/Indonesian, intermediate French and elementary Korean…

Retreat, Refresh and Retain

Hi folks,

I am looking at a plan to set up a very cultural, ethnic and rejuvenating retreat centre in Yunnan for travelers with special needs or people who need to travel abroad for the special medical, physiological or psychological needs. The premise will be mainly for foreigners or foreign chinese. Yunnan weather is 365 days spring, except for 2 months of cold winter, and has cool crisp air and because of its at least 1,000M above sea level location, it should be able to handle whatever flu with its good ultra violet rays.

Yunnan has at least 100 NGOs operating there, all the chinese herbs and plants for TCM and 24 ethnic nationalities with lots of interesting ethnic botany cultures.

Hope to find folks with the skills, management personnel and of course the "worldly possession" to consider this opportunity.

Regarding June yunnan trip, so far one shc member is definite, wondering any more keen to go.

The date might have to be from 9 to 16 June. email me for details. feztus

A trip to Padang and Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra

I am impressed by some of the SHC members who volunteer to lead members to visit certain places where they know well.  I woud likewise volunteer to introduce a trip to Padang and Bukit Tinggi in West Sumatra where I personally go to frequently in the past.

Padang is the capital city of West Sumatra Province of Sumatra island. The people here is of Minangkabau descent and dialect which is simliar to Melayu in Malaysia. Bukit Tinggi is a mountain resort and a great place to relax. Around Bukit Tinggi we can go to Haran Nature Reserve, Singkarak Lake, Jam Gagung, Japanese Tunnel ( people still believe Japanese hide tons of gold in the secret compartment in the tunnel during World War ll). Many tourists are attracted to come due to the cool climate and peaceful ambient.

Tiger Airways fly from Singapore direct to Padang on Tue, Thur and Sat and take only one hour. The air fare is cheap and cost of travel is relatively low. My good friend is a big lobster and sea cucumber distributor in Padang. Those who like lobster or crab can eat until you vomit. Unknowingly to most people, West Sumatra produce the most cave bird’s nest in the world. Each harvest total 3,000 kg of bird’s nest.

So far, the following had booked air ticket and confirmed going

  1. Chin WH
  2. Pearl Goh
  3. Shirley Wee
  4. Ann Lim
  5. Gingko
  6. Terence Seah
  7. Cath Yeo

New Club Manager – Dolly Lim

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, the 1st May, 2009 marks the appointment of our new club Manager, Ms. Dolly Lim.  My Congratulations to Dolly on her appointment.

I had the privilege to work with her (first-hand)  yesterday at the St. Joseph’s Home where our SHC group (led by EO Geok Suan) were there to entertain the nuns, staff and residents of the Home.

It was an eventful mission and we had a wonderful time working as a team.  It was also the  first  project/duty of our new club manger, Dolly.  I can tell you –  she has leadership quality, dynamic, a ‘live-wire’ ( as Geok Suan said) and most importantly, fantastic PR.

I look forward to working with her in future.

Cheers.

Pat Chan
