The doctor give me six weeks to improve my diet and bring down my glucose level from 13 to 7 otherwise I will go on the needle. This is a challenge to myself whether I can avoid it.

Last night I dream of the dread needle and break out in cold sweat and this morning I pull myself out of bed and headed for Safra Mount Faber for 10 laps of freestyle and breast stroke. I reckon I will need to do it every morning from 8:00am to 8:30am. No more late nights as I normally sleep at about 2:00am, have to hit the sack before midnight. 

I need moral support here, anyone with similar concern would like to join me? We will have it here at Safra and if there is any other venue convenience do let me know. We may consider any other day of the week or other timing.

Dear All

I have always been intrigued by how couples (married or living together) stay
happy even way after the pheromone-crazy feeling has fizzled and they no longer
just want to stay in bed.

Some say it’s doing things together, not taking each other for granted,
giving each other space etc etc.

Whenever I see old couples, bent and shuffling yet holding hands,
awww………sooo sweet, I give them a big smile.  Sometimes they smile
back, sometimes they glare at me, especially the wives, kekekekeee.  Oh
well.

Share with us, darlings, if you are one of the happy couples or know of
people who are.  Hey, even your own child’s happy
marriage/relationship.

Mine failed, so wanna know what I could have done better or what HE could
have done better.  Gosh.

Does the above proverb ring true?

There is a difference between habits and bad habits though.  Habits such
as driving to work, making your cup of Joe (coffee) – I would call it being on
autopilot; things that we do without having to wreck our
brains.  

On the other hand, bad habits are hard to break; one tends to ‘fall off the
wagon’ so to speak.  For instance, losing weight and gaining it back by
bingeing/stuffing one’s face, stop smoking but greedily drawing in lungfuls of
nicotine when the need is soooo unbearable etc etc.

Bad habits literally have a vicelike grip on one’s mind and behavior – reeli
reeli hard to break.

Share with us your bad habits and if you have managed to overcome yours,
awesome!  All the more we need to hear/learn from you.

Dear Cycling Members,

Last month, we had fun cycling and fellowship time.  So, this month, we are hoping to do this again. We will cycling in the morning around 10.30am instead of the usual 4.30pm.  This time, our target is Bedok Park Connector…  The route will be lead by Douglas again, as his greatest wish to make sure that we keep this cycling event alive and kicking… 

Bedok Park Connector starts from Bedok Reservoir Park near Jalan Lembah Bedok and ends at the underpass behind Bedok Camp leading to East Coast Park – We will try to cover as much as we can.  If we  can’t completed, then, we will continue to venture again in our next cycling event… OK?

Dear All

I have wanted to ask Terence for the longest time to lower the minimum age to
join Silverhairs Club from 45 to 40.  Did not bother until now.

Why do I have this idea?  I believe the club needs new blood, there is
only a 5-year age difference to join, the early forties to mid-forties will add
more vibrancy and possibly more ideas.

I came across SHC from clicking here and there over here in HK and read with
interest.  After reading the site for a few nites I decided to join as I
qualified in both the minimum age of 45 at that time and being a
Singaporean.

If I was not 45 or above then, I would be frustrated not being able to
join as I was reaching out to my fellow Singaporeans.  Think I would have
written to Terence and he would have told me to wait till I reach 45.  My
comeback would be ‘I may not live to 45!!  Gosh.’

Have brought this topic up with Terence at our meeting and we could have
easily decided whether or not to do so but I believe in discussing with our
members, so let us hear your constructive opinions.

Our monthly gathering is important for members to get together to catch
up with and to meet other members.  It is an informal gathering to
mingle.

If you have been chatting with members whom you have yet to meet, the monthly
gathering will be a good place to finally meet.  Even if you have not
chatted with some members before, take this opportunity to make new friends;
you may be pleasantly surprised.

At last month’s gathering, I was very happy to come across some very sweet
and pleasant members whom I met for the first time.  See, first dates are
exciting!

As with any gathering, Event Organizers (EOs) are needed which brings me
to bring up the following list of EOs for the monthly gatherings in
2012 which Terence posted on Dec 7 2011.  

Looking at the above list, Audrey Wong is the EO for our March monthly
gathering unless she is unable to do so.  Keeping fingers and toes crossed
that Audrey will organize for us.

  straight, keep left path. you will see a school. Then a coffee shop at block
  26. Cross the road you will see block 118. Two to three block you will see
  Block 118A. Its about 8 to 10 mins walk. Max 15 Participants.

techniques, make a balloon basic dog, pirate sword, and intermediate balloon

The objective of this Group is to provide an opportunity for any SHC member to come out for a cup of coffee, chitchat and to share their interests in computer related matters and smart devices. For those interested, it’s a great way to get involved & meet others with similar interests. The company I am working for right now, is working for installer for Telco providers on a case to case basis.  No prior experience is needed as basic training will be provided.  However, it will be good if you have some knowledge of installation of telco equipment, no worry, all these equipment are not bulky types.

Additional info : Job is for installing of cables, cable modems and ONT.  Must have possess some basic computer knowledge and laptop (needed for configuration at customer’s site)

Many of us have not visited Yangon, let alone see the rest of Myanmar.  I have visited Yangon at least 10 times, the last was with Ivan Lim last year.  Myanmar has been close to the world for many years; and it’s only in the last 10 months that there are signs of the country opening up.  Today, Myanmar has many visitors, all wanting to have a look at this unexplored country.

I have just returned from Yangon, and I am planning to go back this time to celebrate the water festival, which will fall on 12 – 16 April 2012.  Actually, it is a weeklong holiday, and I am hoping to have a few good water splashes.  This period is expected to be very hot.  The local currency is the Kyatt.  However, most hotels and tourist areas transact in USD.  Current exchange rate is about 1 USD = 850 kyatt.   1 SGD = 650 kyatt.

5 star hotels are expensive and limited.  However, 3 and 4 star hotels can be available for around USD 40. Some of you may have gone to Myanmar for meditation; Others for the temples; while others for the shopping. There are good Singapore and Malaysian food; these are easily available as many Singaporeans venture there for business and excitement of the unventured.  

The trip is not confirmed; subject to hotel availability.  However, the likelihood of me going is high.  If you like to visit Yangon, I like to invite you to join me and a few other Singaporeans.  Tourism wise, it does not have many of the tourist places we see in other countries.  You will also get a chance to meet William Chew, one of SHC co-founders who has been there for the last 20+ years.  Enjoy the local food and get a taste of local shopping, morning markets, catch a glimpse of the lady, the lakes and local culture. 

A tourist visa is needed, SGD 35, taking two days to apply.  Flights are not cheap, you can fly direct or you can fly via bkk.  Time wise, it is 1.5 hours behind Singapore.  There are plenty of cockcroaches, and there is no hot water.  If you like to join, simply indicate here.  You can withdraw at a later date. 

And, for those who have been to Myanmar, in particular Yangon, feel free to share your experience and knowledge of this golden country.

The good doctor said that everybody "develops cataract", eventually, as they aged. Some sooner, some later. 

I have early stage cataract in my right eye. I ought to be
having surgery. I have been “researching” on the internet, as well as attended “cataract
seminar” to gather information.

I have heard the eye doctors’ opinions. BUT I PREFER to hear
from the cataract ops patients. Can you help?

If you have had cataract surgery recently, I’d like to hear
from you.

Particularly, I am interested to know –

What type of intra ocular lens did you opt for: monofocal,  multifocal, “Toric multifocal”?

Do you have any issues with your choice of lens? If yes,
what are your issues?

I was informed that the post surgery "down time" was minimal. But, I’d like to hear from you – How long was the recovery process? That is – how many hours/days does it take before you can see clearly?

I just lost the comments I made for this post… really silly and
frustrating.

I wanted to look for a recent comment on a past investment-related post…
and I just couldn’t find it despite trolling through pages of comments and
months of post topics.

This lady wanted to know if it is a good time to buy bank stocks now; I guess
she means Singapore bank stocks. I think she deserves a response but I cannot
give more than a basic answer:

I think you can buy Singapore bank stocks but use only up to 5 percent of
your investment capital. Can Singapore banks fail? If they do, you’d only have
lost only 5 percent of your investment total.

I want to urge other SHC members who are more savvy about the market and
investing to give their comments and suggestions. The present economic and world
situation is getting very critical: EU and US financial systems are breaking
down, Mid-east tensions with Iran, world economic slowdown or even depression,
rising inflation and costs: How should we view these and what should we do?

Can we have some views from our SHC gurus?
