Am a newbie to the Club (thanks to BBCat) and look forward to join the fellow club members in some of the activities.
I am a CPA but now working only on part-time basis (enough of the high stress JOB so now taking things easy) I also teach Line Dancing in the CCs and that is my only form of excersing for now
.
I have just taken up a new hobby in Basic Photpgraphy in Jun and still learning the ropes…….any felllow photography enthusiats out there looking for kakis to go for photo shoot?
I enjoy the outdoor activities like fishing, camping, cycling( have not been on a bike for many years and will be keen to pick this up again) . Did stained glass, pan clay, macrame, cross sttich embroidery and beading in the past too but now eye sight not as good liao sigh
.
Enjoy the occasional MJ game too but not a good player, will sing a few lines at karaoke and Oh yes I live to eat
and will never say no especially to seafood …….. yummy yum yum
Would love to attend the 15 Oct member’s get together but I have an evening class to teach so will be a bit tough to make it on time…..will try to see if I can re-schedule my work hours to go to the 3.00pm session.

Anyone interested to go for a short holiday with Eyvonne and me which we planned on Oct 31 to Nov 5’08. We planned to go Hainan/Sanya lor.. But as I am going thru directly with the land operator in Hainan, the whole land tour will only be conducted in Chinese. The land tour cost right now I have is RMB400 (subject to change) for a 4D/3N iternary, 4-S accomodation with 6 meals and 3 breakfast. As Oct/Nov, the flight timetable had been changed to morning flight instead of normal 4.45pm return to SG hence, I had added 1 additional free day in Haikou itself so we can roam freely at our own leisure. As dates planned are considered off-peak, the air ticket cost is ard $300 inclusive of taxes but of cos, must book early to enjoy this lor

There’s this Jaga Singh who was working for a multi-millionare as a
night guard. One day, while the millionaire was driving out to catch

A man and woman had been married for more than 40 years. They had shared everything.
They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets from each other except that
the little old woman had a shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her
husband never to open or ask her about IT.
For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover.

This year 2008, instead of the regular Games Day, we shall be having "SHC Swimming Day" in an Olympic size and chidren’s pool. We had tried a Sunday and Saturday morning. For many, waking up on a weekend is a problem. So, we shall have a relaxing Sunday morning at Kovan Melody, courtesy of Ah Nee.
Now that the date is coming close, next month, it is our usual style to appoint an Event Organiser. She is Lina Ng, a great swimmer, able to do at least 20 laps and tall enough to stand at the deep end of the pool. Lina is assisted by Suzhang and Ah Nee. Thank you ladies, and I am sure we shall all have a lovely Sunday.
Those driving please give your vehicle number so that you can be registered with Kovan’s gate security. Food is being catered.

Who’s coming
Nobody is happy all the time, but some people are definitely more fulfilled than others, and it doesn’t seem to have much to do with material goods or high achievement—things many people spend a lot of their time worrying about. So what do they have that you don’t?
1. Relax. Lighten up. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Try not to over analyze things. Stress can cause many mental, physical, and spiritual problems in your life. One of the major causes of stress is worrying about things that are out of your control. Learn to recognize these things and if you can truly do nothing about them, then just let them go. Take time to laugh at yourself and the situations you find yourself in. Laughter is a powerful, positive medicine and the calmer and more peaceful you can take things, the happier your life will be. It wouldn’t be life if some bad things don’t happen.
2. Smile You would be surprised how much of an immediate difference physically smiling has on your mood, if you smile and force a little laugh you will feel your mood lighten and you won’t have to force it next time.
3. Take the good with the bad. No one is happy all the time. Everyone has something of sorrow intermingled with the gladness of life. The trick is to make the laughter outweigh the tears. We cannot change the past, but we can enjoy today, and look to the future. If we are prepared to take ownership for the past and accept that everything that’s happened in our life, good and bad, has made us the person we are – the battle is half won.
4. Be thankful. A key component of happiness is acceptance – learning to be grateful for what you have. A lot of people know it but don’t keep it in their minds. Comparing your life with others’ is dangerous. Accept the gifts you have and know that no one is better than or less than anyone else’s. Keep a "gratitude journal". Every day, write down a few things that you are thankful for and then review what you have written in past entries. It’s a great way to remind yourself to be thankful for what you have and to boost your mood.
5. Be yourself. Much criticism is caused by people who are discontented with themselves, not with you. One way to get in touch with yourself is through journaling, diaries or (lately) blogs. Your goal may be to open up completely to yourself and learn to be your own best friend by being completely honest with yourself. What do you want out of life? What makes you truly happy? Who do you want to be?
6. Pursue goals that make you happy. Strive for long term goals rather than short term satisfaction. It’s very easy to gain short term satisfaction–a quick high, a fast relief from your current problems (such as drugs, alcohol, sex). But it is what it is, a "short term" satisfaction, and the effects die out very soon, leaving you with an empty feeling that is sometimes worse than before. Set long term goals, goals which take time, thought, and effort to achieve. This will make you continually work towards improving yourself bit by bit and will give you the satisfaction of bringing a permanent change in your life.
7. Focus on the Objective. If the thoughts you are thinking are not giving you that ‘good feeling’, then think about something else that will make you feel good in that moment. Observe your thoughts and ideas consistently throughout the day (diary/journal if possible). Sometimes this may not be as easy as you think if you are stuck in a "destructive" train of thought and your brain chemicals are getting fired up and forming "anxiety or anger" thoughts. Anxiety, fear and anger patterns can be interrupted by focusing on something else. This will dissipate the rush of chemicals that are making you feel bad. Immediately then go back to picturing scenes/remembering things/imagining, planning stuff that makes you feel good.
8. Develop healthy relationships.
o Family. If you want a stronger relationship with your family, you’re going to need to be honest with them. Tell your family about your life and don’t insult them – it hurts them just as much as it hurts you to be insulted. If you are in an abusive family, you must find a way to stop the abuse and that may include separation.
o Have a healthy relationship. If you’re dating, get involved with activities that reflect who you are, and get to know people who like the things you do. Get involved with someone who loves life and pursues happiness the way you do. If you’re in a relationship, strive to make that relationship healthy.
o Choose your friends carefully. Nearly everyone needs someone who cares for them and treats them well. If you have friends who are treating you badly, or are not supportive of you and your goals to improve your life, then ditch them and find friends that do care about you. If you can’t find any friends like that in your current circumstances, then look elsewhere. If you’re feeling sad, there’s nothing like going out with your friends to make you feel better. Surround yourself with friends who are beneficial, encouraging, and helpful. We all need this continuing, nurturing encouragement to make solid desired progress in life.
9. Make someone else happy. When you’re feeling powerless to create happiness in your life, do something to make someone else–anyone–happy, and you’ll remember how easy it really can be. Isn’t it true the happiest people we know are typically the ones who for some foolish reason are always ready to give you the clothes off their back? And frequently it is true that the most discontented people are the ones who are selfish, demanding, and inconsiderate of others. The happiest days of our lives, when we really dig down deep, is when we see the smile on the face of a person who we care about. Even helping a stranger can remind you of how much you really have, because of how much you can give. Serve at a rescue mission and you will learn the meaning of "I cried because I had no shoes and then I met a man who had no feet."

We are fortunate to have members who volunteer to be the photographer(s) at most of our events. Pictures taken are sent to me to make into an album then upload on our website. Usually, the members are happy to see pictures of themselves cos it remind them of the fun they had.
There are times when members may have requested at the point of taking, that their pictures not be uploaded. This seems a reasonable request no doubt. Unfortunately, there are times that such request may be overlooked and the photo made its way on the web. I request the understanding of members that it is not the intention of the photographer to betray or break a promise.
Members who do not wish to have their pictures on the web, to please bring your own camera to take your personal shots with whoever you wish.
I would also like to remind everyone that the event photographer is there to take pictures of the event and as long as there is nothing offensive, the pictures will be uploaded. If you do not want to be in any of the shots, avoid the photographer when he/she comes around. If you want to pose for the photographer, then be prepared that your picture will be uploaded.
Photographers, please do not accede to special request.
Finally, please do not send email with “sh..” word to the photographers or me. We do not deserve it.
Having a break after all the manual washing living on this rented room, old rustic bungalow,without fridge,air-con,washing machine, but with a big forested like garden, bird chirping away near my window I can’t help but recall my RV dream of settling in country side Thailand.
But then again, since I was back in Dec 2007( after a few months near Phuket), many, many beatiful things happen (finding a job, new friends, new interests,etc) much through SHC that somehow makes it harder to think of RV in Malaysia or Thailand, but who knows what destiny can bring. The point is that SHC can bring you that much more closer to your dream if you are careful, open minded, take your time to discover the chaff from all the flares, and not turning it into a nightmare instead. I now discovered that with the many frends I have made, that i could easily get a few friends to go on a short notice to Malacca or for a night of Karaoke easily.
Before I rant on within the 15 mins I have, before going for our weekly ritual badminton that we all have come to love, I just want to comment Patrick for being strong as big as a boulder as he is to offer his services in travel, betting and advisory on heart matters. I symphatised with him as at times SHC seems to be ready for a truly good ground for a matured, heart opening, no holds barred, exciting place to have a forum on anything that interest SHC members. So Patrick keep on, you have my support as I think we will get there someday soon. Briefly a forum is to have different conflicting views aired to provide an avenue for set minds to learn of other people’s point of views and looking at facts from different angles discovering realms of possibilities that is left undiscovered or never thought possible. Many of us have discovered and realise that we could do more things as a group which I will share.
Back to achievements or dreams that I or a few have wanted to do and have done the past year. The cycling group has got more interesting discovering new challengers, like cycling to Pengarang, Desaru, 60 km /120km rides. Adventure (SHAG ) group was initiated organising challenging walks of 12 km up and down Bukit timah hill and climaxing to the top of Mt Ophir and back safely. Water rafting up Ipoh, with Caving and Rafflesia hunting were also clocked by those who were keen with such things. On roller blading did the night 10Km blading from ECP to Downtown East, and finally yesterday, did roller blading to CV and back with Kat and Stella ( who must have done her longest skate ever although she almost made it there).
From never doing any kind of dancing before (shy,etc) i have love to do line dance and also social dancing. On Country line dance now I have discovered Monday nights free dance jam (thanks to Rosalind), and on Sept 12 hopefully we have our ‘Love for Country line dance jam with Hamidah ‘ at NSRCC an event that can spark greater interest among new and old members.
On Sept 13 the Mid Autumn event I hope we can have the maximum number of Karaoke singers turn up , as I will make sure everyone will have a chance to have your stage, and Caroline our Singing Queen will be there too. I am trying to find someone who can be kind enough to lend us a karaoke machine with ‘automatic’ scoring so that we can have a friendly unbiased scoring or feedback system to select our top karaoke singers and also for general feedback. Anyone with such a Karaoke player to lend ? Cheers.
Just for sharing, when we know the cause, may be able to slow down aging by taking right diet so that we don’t age so fast! :D
WE all accept that getting older is inevitable, and now leading clinicians have revealed the exact age when different body parts start to decline, most alarming being the brain and lungs.
French doctors have found that the quality of men’s’ sperm starts to deteriorate by 35, so that by the time a man is 45 a third of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Here, with the help of leading clinicians, Angela Epstein tells the Daily Mail the ages when different parts of the body start to lose their battle with time.
BRAIN – Starts ageing at 20
As we get older, the number of nerve cells – or neurons – in the brain decrease. We start with around 100 billion, but in our 20s this number starts to decline. By 40, we could be losing up to 10,000 per day, affecting memory, co-ordination and brain function.
GUT – Starts ageing at 55.
A healthy gut has a good balance betwee harmful and ‘friendly’ bacteria. But levels of friendly bacteria in the gut drop significantly after 55, particularly in the large intestine, says Tom MacDonald, professor of immunology at Barts And The London medical school. As a result, we suffer from poor digestion and an increased risk of gut disease. Constipation is more likely as we age, as the flow of digestive juices from the stomach, liver, pancreas and small intestine slows down.
BREASTS – Start ageing at 35
BY their mid-30s, women’s breasts start losing tissue and fat, reducing size and fullness. Sagging starts properly at 40 and the areola(the area surrounding the nipple) can shrink considerably.
BLADDER – Starts ageing at 65
Loss of bladder control is more likely when you hit 65. Women are more vulnerable to bladder problems as, after the menopause, declining oestrogen levels make tissues in the urethra – the tube through which urine passes – thinner and weaker, reducing bladder support. Bladder capacity in an older adult generally is about half that of a younger person – about two cups in a 30-year-old and one cup in a 70-year-old….
LUNGS – Start ageing at 20
Lung capacity slowly starts to decrease from the age of 20. By the age of 40, some people are already experiencing breathlessness. This is partly because the muscles and the rib cage which control breathing stiffen up.
VOICE – Starts ageing at 65
Our voices become quieter and hoarser with age. The soft tissues in the voice box (larynx) weaken, affecting the pitch, loudness and quality of the voice. A woman’s voice may become huskier and lower in pitch, whereas a man’s might become thinner and higher.
EYES – Start ageing at 40
Glasses are the norm for many over-40s as failing eyesight kicks in – usually long-sightedness, affecting our ability to see objects up close.
HEART – Starts ageing at 40
The heart pumps blood less effectively around the body as we get older. This is because blood vessels become less elastic, while arteries can harden or become blocked because of fatty deposits forming on the coronary arteries – caused by eating too much saturated fat. The blood supply to the heart is then reduced, resulting in painful angina. Men over 45 and women over 55 are at greater risk of a heart attack.
LIVER – Starts ageing at 70
This is the only organ in the body which seems to defy the aging process.
KIDNEYS – Starts ageing at 50
With kidneys, the number of filtering units (nephrons) that remove waste from the bloodstream starts to reduce in middle age.
PROSTATE – Starts ageing at 50
The prostate often becomes enlarged with age, leading to problems such as increased need to urinate, says Professor Roger Kirby, director of the Prostate Centre in London. This is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia and affects half of men over 50, but rarely those under 40. It occurs when the prostate absorbs large amounts of the male sex hormone testosterone, which increases the growth of cells in the prostate. A normal prostate is the size of a walnut, but the condition can increase this to the size of a tangerine.
BONES – Start ageing at 35
‘Throughout our life, old bone is broken down by cells called osteoclasts and replaced by bone-building cells called osteoblasts – a process called bone turnover,’ explains Robert Moots, professor of rheumatology at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool. Children’s bone growth is rapid – the skeleton takes just two years to renew itself completely. In adults, this can take ten years. Until our mid-20s, bone density is still increasing. But at 35 bone loss begins as part of the natural ageing process.
TEETH – Start ageing at 40
As we age, we produce less saliva, which washes away bacteria, so teeth and gums are more vulnerable to decay. Receding gums – when tissue is lost from gums around the teeth – is common in adults over 40.
MUSCLES – Start ageing at 30
Muscle is constantly being built up and broken down, a process which is well balanced in young adults. However, by the time we’re 30, breakdown is greater than buildup, explains Professor Robert Moots. Once adults reach 40, they start to lose between 0.5 and 2 per cent of their muscle each year. Regular exercise can help prevent this.
HEARING – Starts ageing mid-50s
More than half of people over 60 lose hearing because of their age, according to the Royal National Institute for the Deaf.
SKIN – Starts ageing mid-20s
The skin starts to age naturally in your mid-20s.
TASTE AND SMELL – Start ageing at 60
We start out in life with about 10,000 taste buds scattered on the tongue. This number can halve later in life. After we turn 60, taste and smell gradually decline, partly as a result of the normal ageing process.
FERTILITY – Starts ageing at 35

Do you know how to prevent loose teeth due to aging?
It’s not Calcium or Magnesium, it is vanadium, is a micro-mineral. You entire body contains about 100ug of it.
