The photographs of the Flea Mart are out. Nice blue skies from late Sat afternoon to early evening. Event Organiser: LH Jie. Spot anybody you know? The Mar 2008 monthly gathering is also held at the same time.
Tell us what you think? Should we hold the flea mart again? Once a month, or once a year. Any suggestions on improving this event. Good comments or not so good comments, your feedback is important. Same location, different location. Same time or different days?

on behalf of Charles Wee, and organisers.
Following Terence’s clarion call for new directions, we find ourselves faced with many challenges. Let’s continue discussing the issues and our options here.
New face comes with new name. We will start a search for a new identity. This will be next month’s SHC Challenge. We’ll announce the next prize after last night’s winner has collected the prize for Singapore National Dish on Monday. In case, it is not collected we will snowball the millions over to the next session. Like Toto. Don’t worry. In the meantime, we’ll put the float to a good Poor cause. Like Shareholders’ Bonus Dividends.
Hee-hee.
OK. Here is the name list for March’s SHC Challenge "New Name". Put in your bid.
Frequently, I have been asked if non-SHC members can join our functions. So, I like to clarify as follows. For a gathering or activity to be classified as a SHC activity, it can only be attended by SHC members.
At the same time, I would also encourage SHCians to organise their own gatherings or activities, and still make use of this forum. However, please do not call or classify the activity or gathering as a SHC activity, if non-SHC members are invited to attend. You are encouraged to invited other SHC members to attend your activities and particiate in your interests.
I hope this clarifies "What is an SHC activity?".

Hi
Actually heard of the SHC sometime ago but only realise how active it is recently. Therefore am joining to have more interactions with my peers and to enjoy an impending retirement (hopefully not too long in the future) with the various activites the Club has.
Currently working in a consumer company selling photographic products, besides swimming, power walks, cycling, reading and travelling, I also play mahjong, scrabble and am taking up bridge lessons. Am also a social, 9-hole golfer, playing aimlessly for years but more for some social interaction, and exercise and as an added activity for overseas trips rather than serious golf. Can see many more things which I would like to do but like any working adult, time is always a deterrent.
Anyway am looking very much forward to my first activity with the Club, ie cycling to Penggerang on 12 April. See you all.
Oh, you lucky people. You can be part of history in making this coming Sat.

Hi Terence, Kwan , KT, Tim and all,
What do you all think ? Do we have enough expertise and experience to be able to undertake such a project. I know , if we do get this job that we should be able get enough volunteers to help SHC venture into this area ?
We have an on-line SHC Flea Market webpage. Feel free to post your items for sale. You can put pictures and video. Get exposure for your product and put your bidders into play. Buyers can post an auction price before this Sat’s 15 Mar SHC Flea Market at Scorebot, 18 Bali Lane.

Just register and simply follow instructions at
http://www.dowindowshopping.com/dsupcrafrm.do?refid=FLM5&sid=5&type=3&dslogo=yes

You should find your product under the SHC Flea Market listing at the right. Use the same username and password that you registered.
Hi all SHCians,
For the first time, we will combine a monthly gathering, with another activity "SHC Flea mart". Originally, the plan was to hold the monthly gathering at the Han’s cafe and Cake house at Great Eastern Centre. But, since then, we have now firmed the location of the 1st SHC Flea mart, at Bali Lane, we shall combine the two events. The hope is that once a year, we will combine one monthly gathering with the SHC Flea Mart.
We have a 99% chance these two events are ON. The likely dates are 8, 9 or 15 March, afternoon. Please note these dates as the announcement will be made very very soon.
This monthly gathering strictly for SilverHairsClub members only. Flea Mart buyers will come from members and the public.

I started my Primary One at Montfort School in 1962. If you have been in this school for the six years of primary education and four years of Secondary, come join in. I remembered some of us still have unfinished fights behind the wall, and the good old days when we go down Ponggol Road to catch "Bua Ki crabs".
For those who do not know, in those days, Montfort School is a boys school, all the way to Secondary Four. Then, that’s when we get a shock to find girls during the next two years of Pre-U. And, that’s when the results start to drop.

A new category "Lost & Found/Missing" has just been created. I hope you can use this category to find your old old primary school mates, lost foreign friend or a lost SHCian. You can start a new Post for each missing person.
Have fun.

Some of you may be wondering how to initiate a new Post or a new thread? As a SHC member, you can easily write a Post. Can be almost any topic, club taboos should be noted. If you have a thought and just like to share with other members, use the category "Reflections". Do not repeat a Post.
Post should be categorised, or the Post may not be published.
When a member responds to your Post, you will get an email alert. Please reply to that member on this forum. Members who start a Post, and fail to reply those who respond to their Post within 30 days, would be deleted from the club membership. This ensures the database is kept updated.
Have fun.

Hi everyone
I came across this site as I was surfing for clubs or whatever you want to call it for those over 45 and found Silver Hair.
Am turning 50 this year and in my 2nd phase of life. Loves my coffee, reading, walking, learning to dance and knit now. Next on my To Do list – dress making – still on my To Do List.
Still working full time and mother of 2 growing up children.
Hope to get to have coffee gatherings soon

Hi Terence and all bike lovers,
There are some bike lovers from SHC who feel cycling once a month is not enough. To these group of bike lovers, how about cycling from Tg Pengarang to Kg Sungei Rengit.
This route will brings us back to nostalgic era of 1960s Singapore.
It could be an unforgettable and a memorable ride for some of us. The trill and joy will be rewarded at journey’s end. The atmosphere will always be remembered for a long time. The return journey is about 36km,
a distance slightly less than from McDonald @ECP to Changi Village and back.
Upon arrival at Sungei Rengit, we may have seafood for lunch, walk around the town, maybe buy some dry seafood products or freshly baked tau sar piah.
Sungei Rengit to Dasaru is but a short distance.
Please sign up here if you are interested and do indicate whether you need rental bike
Please post your questions here

Hi Terence and all ,
In response to your question what is possible in SHC for retirees to continue to be engaged in keeping themselves employed and offer their expertise and experience.
Project Proposal : Supply, Delivery, Installation and Commissioning of Two(2) Weather and Two(2) Air Quality Monitoring Stations in Jambi, Indonesia. Calling Entity National Environment Agency
If there is a company that is willing to finance this project and provide technical expertise, can SHC form a management pool of people to run, co-ordinate the phases from the construction face to the operational phase for 2 years in Indonesia ?
What are your views, consideration and are they people with relevant experience willing to undertake this as a retirement career ?
Terence,
In your comments on the comprehensive activities for March, you forgot to include the very FIRST activity, i.e. THE TENNIS at Tanah Merah Condo. We have around 20 people who have signed for this activity!

Hi, all:
I have been in touch with Hotboys Kelong and am pleased to say that the closing date for payments to be made towards the kelong trip has been extended to 31 March 2008, or when the seating capacities of each coach minibus is taken up. (As stated in my earler post no. 1473)
I should also mention that there is a possibilty that groups other than SHC who confirm their trips before us may get the limited coach/minibus seats. This means we may have to seek other means of land transport, or could be left without land transport.
For this reason, I have to ask all who intend making the trip and require land transport not to put off payment to the last minute, but to make your payments early as you are able. Those who withdrew earlier may rejoin if conditions are more favourable now.
Also, the following individuals have still not responded to my earlier post re their intentions (going or not going) and whether they need land transport to and from Tanjong Leman Jetty, etc, with regards to to my post no. 1473 (Update on Kelong Trip (19/20 April 2008):
1. Chian Wah
2. Vincent Wong (withdrawn 8/3)
3. Jimmy Chew
4. Sally Chew
5. Alfred Ang

To avoid confusion, I have closed this thread from comments. If you wish to write anything in connection with the above, please do so at Post No. 1473: Update on Kelong Trip (19/20 April 2008 – (https://silverhairsclub.com/2008/02/1473).
Thank you, and have a nice day.

I asked an Italian friend. "Do you make your own pasta?" She asked me. "Do you make your own chicken rice?" Which set me thinking.
Obviously, she can’t cook to save her life. But that’s not the important question.
Besides Italian pasta, many countries are identified by their favorite food eg British Fish and Chips, American Burger, Japanese Sushi etc. What do you think the world think of us.
What is our national dish. Which is the best version of the dish in question. Are you Sporean enough to be able to cook it yourself.

Hi, kelong kakis :
In a few days, Terence will let us know the bank account number to which we will be able to make our payments towards the kelong trip on 19/20 April 2008.
At the moment, 63 people have registered for the trip. The coach to/from Tg Leman Jetty is able to carry only 40 passengers, which means 23 people will have to find alternative land transport. We can hire smaller vehicles for 10 to 12 persons, but the cost per person is higher. I also believe some of you may prefer to drive up on your own, or are able to ‘tumpang’ others who are driving up.
Could those who have registered for the trip please indicate (by posting a comment here) whether you need land transport to/from Tg. Leman Jetty, or whether you will be making the trip with your own transport?
We will be collecting S$100 per person who require land (coach, minibus) transport, and S$75 for those who are driving up or have buddies to ‘tumpang’ them.
We hope that this amount is enough to pay for the cost for the trip. Any money collected in excess will be refunded. In the unlikely event that the amount collected is insufficient, we trust that those going will not mind topping up the difference.
The S$100 will cover the cost of : ![]()
Meanwhile, Zen of Hotboys Kelong has provided the following clarifications to the questions some of you raised:
Beds
Bunk beds will be provided, with mattresses, etc.
Toilet Facilities
Let’s just say that the facilities are the type where denizens of the deep will be waiting to consume – directly – what the human body rejects.
First Aid Kits ![]()
Basic First Aid kits will be available
Drinks
Free flow of coffee, tea and drinking water will be provided
Sea Transport (safety)
I have been assured that life jackets will be available. The boats used are safe, in good condition and will not be overloaded.
Cost of Optional Activities, Purchases and Rentals
A limited number of fishing rods and hand lines will be available for rent.
Fishing hooks, sinkers, lines, etc will be available for sale.
While activities such as mahjong, carrom, island hopping, etc are provided at no additional cost, a number of optional activities have to be paid for.
Please note that the S$100 / S$75 each person pays does not include the cost of such optional rentals / purchases / activities.
You may want to familarise yourselves with the kelong and its optional rentals / purchase / activities by visiting http://www.kelongfishing.com/index.asp.
Travel Insurance
Those requiring travel insurance are advised to purchase the insurance on their own.
Terence :
Could you handle the collection and keeping track (who is paying and for whom) of payments, or assign someone else to manage this aspect of the trip?
Thanks.
Ron Koh

Dennis Har, Together we can achieve MORE.
The Travel Club idea has started, with some brilliant ideas from Joan (Perth), Mary (Perth), Ronald Wie (retirement living), KT Wong and EleanorC.
On 4 Jan 2008, KT Wong called a meeting to discuss the idea of a Travel Club. I think we should take the various ideas further, and openly discuss the different ideas on this forum. We should discuss the different opportunities here, until one or two solid directions appear on the horizon. And, we can then put the ideas on a commercial platform. It is always difficult to move further, after the small group discussions, if participants see no commercial gains. I feel this project can benefit members who have retired, and would like to get into something financially meaningful, besides enjoying the fun of a Travel Club.
Topics of interests can include: accommodatioin for incoming travellers, tourist guiding, niche packages, an online Travel Club portal to take reservations, promotions and marketing, participation by SilverHairsClub members, costs, IR opportunities, etc.
Initially, we might get off hand in the discussion, but we will finally find an angle. So, if you feel you like this discussion topic, and are interesting to participate in the Travel Club, keep joining us on this thread. For SilverHairs with experience in travel or property rental, please give us your guidance. Do you see a business opportunity in a Travel Club?
If you personally have an area you can contribute to the Travel Club, please raise your hand, and make sure we see you. We are not expecting a free service, although we should be conscious of supply and demand forces. Let’s start.
* Comments which stray away from the subject may be deleted. We will close this thread for a consoidation on 31 March 2008.

Hi everybody, we shall try to give 2GreenDots.com another go. It has not been successful, since it was first launched. I guess there are a few reasons why ta boleh jalan. Suggestions for improvements welcome.
