First beginners guitar group gathering, Fri 15 June 2012

To all beginners guitar learners,

I am not sure how to start a place for guitar beginners.  Let’s try one, and then we see how it works, before moving on.  I like to invite you for late lunch at the MPH cafe, along Robinson Road, from 1430 to 1600 hrs. Please come along with your guitar. If you dont intend to, I shall bring mine.  Let’s see how much fun we can have from the first gathering.  It doesnt matter if you see me make a fool of myself.  The idea is to see how each of us at doing and encourage one another to keep learning.  Repeat, the key is to encourage one another with learning "How to play the guitar".

Hopefully, we can have an amateur guitar group very soon.

  • Place:  MPH cafe, along 63 Robinson Road.
  • Time:  1430 – 1600 hrs
  • Date:  Fri June 15, 2012.
  • Lunch:  Members of the beginners guitar group invited for lunch.
  • Note:  Bring your guitar if you wish.  Not necessary.

Please let me know if you can come.

Band looking for a Drummer

We get together to jam in the afternoon at Pasir Ris on a weekday. So you need to be a retiree to engage in this pastime. The room where we make our music is air-conditioned and we play the oldies made popular by Elvis, Cliff, Shadows, Eagles etc. We have the full set of hardware – drums, guitars and amplifiers – so you just need to bring yourself. If you think you can be part of our outfit please drop me a note at itti16@singnet.com.sg. It’ll be a pleasure to hear from you.

How to play the guitar, for beginners?

Every since I was a school boy, I had always wanted to play the guitar.  Today, 30 years later, I still cannot play the guitar.  I had bought a guitar, played it for a few days, and then, I forgot where it was.  Recently, I met a couple of friends, during dinner, and I was impressed by a 60 year old member, who could play the guitar, and was playing old songs that we all like, same age lah.  So, I am now hot up to learn how to play the guitar.

Dementia is a serious concern, although it can affect all oldies.  We forget our parents, the names of our children and where we left that gold coin.  In SHC, I learn that two kinds of activities can delay the onset of dementia.  One is learning a new language, the other is playing a musical instrument.  Of course, there is mahjong and soduko.

Well, I determine this time to learn how to play the guitar.  First, I bought a guitar song book of old songs.  Second, I subscribe to an online video of a series of "How to play the guitar" for USD 19.  All done in one day.  My next step is to look out for a second hand guitar, suitable for strumming.  Maybe if Jassmine permits in her online fleamart, I can advertise to buy an used guitar.  I like to buy it this week.

What I hope to do is to attract other like-minded Silverhairs to join me in this dementia delaying activity.  Then we can meet once in a while, somewhere and play together.  I have decided to go for online training because I don think I can find a patient teacher, and also I can practise and play at my own time.

Anybody else, like to go along the same line as me.  Helpers would be appreciated, in forming small groups.  A chance to teach an old bird how to sing.

Some attempt by member to post an activity are rejected, why?

The sounding is out to all members to at least put up an event or activities for fellow members to participate. The thing to consider is that there should be no advertisement of the company organising the trip. Some members do keep a lookout for such cheap day tour or trip overseas and want other members to join in so that there is ample opportunity to interact and have fellowship together.emoticon

A trip may be planned strictly for members whereas in other where non-member are involved, a co-ordinator is required. I know some members are frustrated when their attempt to post an activity are rejected after several try.emoticon

On the one hand much encouragement are put forward for members to step forward and be involve in organizing activities, yet we feel that some of their efforts are curbed. Can there be some flexibility? Without doubt some company names will be mentioned in any tours but if we look at the greater picture the advantages and benefits to our members far outweighed any other consideration.

Mahjong kakis and groups. Join a group or another group.

Recently, when I attended the monthly gathering for the West Enders, I found out that mahjong was a much talk about topic.  Once in a while, I also get to hear of individuals trying to find kakis; but have difficulties finding kakis near their home.  And, sometimes, when I attend functions, I see there are so many mahjong players.  I cannot play as I am afraid to lose money.

To help you find other kakis near your home, you may indicate you are a mahong kakis and the name of the road you stay, or just say North, South, East or West; and I shall list out by regions.  This is like a who’s who in mahjong.  I shall then ask the most active player to be the EO.  You dont have to organise, you just have to coordinate, North, South, East or West.

The sequence starts from Feb 2012 to Aug/Sep 2012, ie right upto the finals.  This gives more time in between for the contestants to prepare.

There are sponsored fashionwear, bridal gown, evening wear, accessories, hair styling, makeup, talent training.  The first photoshoot starts in February 2012 and comes with sponsored makeup and hairstyling.

We are now in a recruitment process to find nominees for the 2012 quest.  On behalf of EZ4U Music & Dance and Glamour Danzfit, I am extending an invitation to the ladies in SHC to participate.

A CHANCE TO FEEL EMPOWERED AS A WOMAN.

The challenge in Mrs Singapore is not the same as that of Miss Singapore.  In Mrs Singapore,  looking as beautiful as Venus or standing at a model’s height are not the most important criteria.  Contestants are judged on their level of confidence, personality, ability to interact, the way a lady carries herself, just to name a few……

There will be a briefing by the organiser on Sunday (5th Feb 2012) at 3 pm.  At this briefing, you will be informed of all the details and you can ask as many questions as you may have in your mind.  The purpose is to let participants know exactly what they are in for before signing up for the challenge.

Briefing venue : TKS & Sons building, No 46A, Chuan Hoe Avenue

Taking part in the pageant last year was a very good experience for me.  I have never done this before in my life.  It is not because of the fact that I won but the involvement and the experience in the whole process was really something I treasure in my heart and in my mind.

Do not underestimate yourself.  You do not know your full potentials until you give yourself a chance to release all the hidden qualities in you.

If you wish to respond to me, you may write to my e-mail:

E-mail address : irenelklee@gmail.com

I sincerely hope that there will be some ladies from SHC willing to take the challenge.

Developing a SilverHairsClub band and singers team

Edwin Chen (Uncle ED) has offered to develop and train a team of singers who can sync with him during live singing sessions.  He is a one-man band; and I am looking at opportunities of having him and a team of singers perform during some of our concerts, talentime and other music & dance activities.

While Edwin has other activities, I am hoping to have this program developed as a SHC project.  If you are interested in being a singer with Edwin, please do send me your singing resume via email terences@SilverHairsClub.com.  Number of participants limited to 4.  Selected candidates will be interviewed sometime next month.

EO to contact:   Lorraine Chia  at  chia_lorraine@hotmail.com

Seremban town is an old quite sleepy town probably a decade or two older
than KLumpur.   It was created by the dozens of Chinese who followed
several of the Minangkabau chiefs from North Sumatera, whom later unite
their individual provinces into Negri Sembilan and electing one of the chiefs
to be Yam Tuan Besar, the fifth of whom was destined to become Yang
Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaya at Independence in 1957.

The name Seremban was originally SERENDAM or literally "to soak" as baptism
of water is a cultural ritual of the Minangkabaus on any auspicious
occasion..   A laid back place is sutiable for Singaporeans to
de-stress on short periods.

Health Talk on Cell Defense: Top 10 Anti-Aging Foods, 18 Aug 2011

Staying young is easy… when you understand the science behind the aging process.

You’ve probably been hearing about the role of antioxidants to fight  against free radicals – the main enemy of our cells and thus, our body.

The good news is: Our bodies has the ability to produce a Master Antioxidant – glutathione. There are more than 96,000 studies on glutathione worldwide, yet you have probably never heard of it.  The reason is, up until now, there was no easy way to get additional glutathione into your body. If you tried to take it like a supplement, t gets destroyed in your stomach and G.I. tract before it reaches your cells.  I shall share with you simple ways you can eat, enjoy, and stay young!

Participants will learn:

– The Anti-aging Miracle of Glutathione – Your Body’s Master Antioxidant.
– 3 Easy Ways to Stay Young
– The Top 10 Age-Erasing Foods that are delicious and great for you!
– How to power up your organs so they stay young and you stay healthy!

Ghost Month

Last year I had the opportunity of watching a ‘Ker Tai’ performance at Choa Chu Kang cemetery. There were 3 lorries decorated with brighly coloured lights and each had its own sound system. The performers were beautiful girls with little cloths. They sing on top of the lorries while the convoy parades among the tombs in the cemetery. I knew then that ghost are horny and they will remain quiet if we satisfy them at their premises.

I am looking out for them this month. I am also horny.

Do you believe in ghost? I have never seen one despite looking out for them. The nearest I  get to them is someone who knows someone who have seen one.

During this month,  they are suppost to be all over Singapore, so I am watchful….for the ghost, not the scantily dressed ‘Ker Tai’ singers.
